WW1 to Interwar 1939 Gamemode

I would like to suggest a WW1 Mode, while it is rather difficult as there are a more limited amount of nations that acutally had participated in WW1 with such equipment (Tanks, Trucks, Planes) that would give a unique and interesting gameplay, i still see a place for them in game, if not at least for the memes. (For a great list of possibilitys at the end.)

As 2 (AIr and ground) seperate additional trees (look below at the picture) and not as a new reserve!

Overall the Main Nations: Germany, Great Britain, France, USA and also Russia would get the most of it.

There are allready quite a lot of WW1 Suggestions on this forum as well as if going a bit higher into the interwar period till right up 1939, we would be able to add a bit more even. More on such exceptions below!

But how is the best way to implement it?

As a seperat tree, along the top beeing Ground, Air, Helicopter and 2 Naval Parts.

Furthermore, then like with differen BRs, make a different Matchmaker for WW1 capable vehicles, marked with a little Icon each, if you have only such vehicles you get WW1-Interwar Matches, but if you mix with WW2 or higher Vehicles in your line up, you come to the normal Matchmaker. And very importantly, make it not a start requirement, rather a Optional Content, as a big player group goes more in the direction of Modern Vehicles.
(Like is allready visible with plane Air and Ground BRs.)

This will on one hand give the full capable fun WW1 mode, but also not block you from bringing a A7V or Mark V tank to Low Br Tanks, cince these are still usable, a 57mm Gun will still put a good hole into a T-26 tank.

As such you got a full WW1-1939(Interwar) Mode, to widen the amount of possible vehicles, as the development for most nations (except Germany) only really started after WW1, or vehicles were only then really coming off the Paper, into the Steel.

That however doesnt mean that a T-26 as taken from In-game Reserve tank should be put into the WW1 mode, as it has WW2 ammo, most easy way would be, to have such WW1 capable vehicles C&P also into the seperat Tree Tap, but changed to be in a 1939 Form, such vehicle would also be the Pz II Ausf.C (1939), which has no Pzgr.40, No extra armor and no Mirror cupola.

Of course the tanks also would require their own pair of WW1 and WW2 Mode Brs, cince there will be vehicles (even if not a lot) that will have greater performance than other (Mark I Male < K-Wagen) and to further differentiate the later part of Inter War Up to 1939 Tanks.
Having a Pure WW1 BR and a seperat BR for when taking it into WW2 and up, as taking the K-Wagen as example again, will propably be stronger than Most Reserve tanks, similar to the allready in game Char 2C. (Like is allready visible with plane Air and Ground BRs.)

This Mode will also come with new maps, there could be new maps that follow the style normal villages, or the No Mans Land, there is allready such a Map in game, the Map “Flanders” having Crashed Zeppelin, which (with exception to the Armored Train and cars as well as some minor details) is overall a WW1 Map, the Zeppelin as well as the 21 cm Lg.Mörser guns scattered around the map.
Dev Post of Flanders

In general this WW1 Mode of Tanks, Trucks (with Cannons) and Planes can bring a new Mode which takes away the speed of the game (quite literally as most tanks and Trucks were quite slow), for some more layed back matches.

Along these new possible vehicles and Maps, new ammo types (or also allready in game ones) could be further used and perhaps reworked to properly depict semselfs, such as Shrapnell-TF shells and such which can be considdered as a Crude AHEAD round, as in WW1 against the slow planes and Airships, the AA guns, were often simply 7,5-7,7 cm and up Field Guns in New mounts or Makeshift mounts to shoot in the air. With these Shrapnell-TF and HE-TF shells it would also give the possible aspect to shoot down planes, as these are slower than the currently in game planes (with some exceptions).

BF 1 Was a great game, having a WT Counterpart will certainly bring another playerbase, as overall there currently isnt such WW1 Tank/combined Warfare game.

The following list can still be expanded, feel free to write some below.

Tho WW1 Also showed a wide amount of Aircraft with steep development, from 1 engine to multi engine big bombers and 20mm Cannons. Like the German Gotha Bombers, or British Planes with 14mm MGs with incendary MGs.

would be so awesome to have something like this!

Feel free to add more fitting vehicles here.

would 2c Lorraine or bis fit? very good suggestion, and will add popularity +1

I dont know about the different models with names, but basically yes, it is in the small example list in the suggestion. It would obviously sit a bit higher in BR (like they allready do in game) maybe around a possible K-Wagen, duo to size, armor and firepower.

I like the idea of WW1, but i would like it to be added in as rank 0, a researchable rank instead of a reserve, just like the french with 3 of their weak tanks.
This opens up possibilities like interwar tanks and so on.

The by me proposed kind wouldnt be a reserve, instead 2 secondary trees (for each nation that had such) of Ground and Air, that can be used as is in a dedicated matchmaker and/or in the normal current one with all the other vehicles.

Some people oppose the addition of WW1 and such soley because they dont want more to research through, instead with this beeing a secondary tree, people can invest time (and maybe money) or not.
(I know maybe this isnt the most moneymaking, especially duo to not forceing the grind, but the most acceptable by the player base.)

I voted no based on how painfully slow and tedious 1 BR is anyway for most of the nations. Most of the vehicles can’t even climb the slopes.
Who wants games in an unmodded WW1 tank on a big map made for modern day?
So many newer players J out at top tier if they have to drive for more than a minute as it is.

Also I was under the impression that nobody but “old men” have an interest in WW2 or history in general for that matter as far as this game is concerned.
I love WW1 planes in reality but how painfully slow is the biplane tier in this game already?

Then you didnt read the suggestion correctly!

As i suggest it NOT at the beginning of the current tree, but as 2 optional secondary trees, to choose from at the top where allready Ground, air, helicopter, and 2 naval is.

Optional, that you can skip it all along even.

And shure tanks are slow, but not the vast amount of Cars and Trucks.

You didn’t read my answer correctly or it’s been a damn long time since you played 1BR.
You really want vehicles even more under powered and slow than those we start with?

Play France and Japan at 1BR then tell me about the fun game you have planned with even worse vehicles.

That part was meant to “who wants to play (…)”

As i sayed above, there are many other vehicles such as trucks that are faster. And many interwar tanks are also faster. This is more of a classic light → heavy, fast → slow situation, with also many trucks to that as well.

I think we are like mined souls in the German armour fanclub for sure but I am only reminding you of this game at it’s lowest tier.Go back as I do to play it and think about taking it all and ramping down a level further.

I do mostly play 1.3-3.0 as i love early tanks, such as Pz IIIs.
I do understand what you mean, but the super slow is pretty much limited to early british and overall french designes, tho they got (with the excpetion to france) quickly faster, most of the slower tanks beyond that are mostly heavyer tanks.
So saying the whole gamemode is slow (true it certainly, as i wrote in the suggestion be laid back, slowe) its not that general, as you will have many trucks and armores cars, many light tanks, medium tanks and fewer heavy tanks that are slow (with exception to french.).

I think we already have much of what could be used as far as tanks go.We have so many good soft skin vehicles missing from WW2.
WW1 planes is interesting but we both know BR will kill the WW1 theme like it has killed the WW2 theme. We simply don’t do history well in this game.Think about the up tier.

it might be a great idea, but it would give France, ussr and germany a massive advantage over the others. Nations like italy, great britain, usa, china, sweden and japan would get completely overwhelmed by their counterpart. Especially france that comes with the b1 bis in 1937 (good luck facing that without 1941 heat germany, or even later swedes apr…). While you get a certain balance at low tier (aside german heat and swede apds that have nothing to do there both historically and gameplay wise), if you have french interwar heavies facing other interwar designs, it will be a massacre. Let’s not forgot the 2.3 br 2c bis is a 1928 design and it lacks a lot of ammo options. There’s no way such gameplay could be introduced without major balancing “tweaks”. In summary, France would completely rule that area of the game, boasting ridiculously high armor and sufficient firepower.

Already exists …called reserve tanks.

I think WT has already sucked up much of the interwar vehicles that may be of use in the game. The B1 is a fine example of a tank that is almost OP in one BR and useless in the tier above.
Already stretching the point.

I could say I would love to fly the DR1, SE5 or Sopwith Camel but would I want to face 20s planes? No I wouldn’t and I know that is how it would pan out if WT tried it.I am already punching the screen when my 6.7 unmodded tanks do 8MPH up hill. I don’t want a game consisting of that entirely.

Ok, where is my reserve K-Wagen then?

There are multiple gun trucks of 7,5-8,8 cm guns that could rather easily deal with a B1 Bis, not to mention some derp guns. And some tanks.
But of course there would be ballancing with an higher Br, or it could be left out in favour of the normal B1 which has 40mm, which would be dealt with by the 7,7 cm Fk 96 n.A. which is the most common german gun in one form or another.

And there isnt “major” reballancing needed, because the way i suggest it, these in Ww1-Interwar would get their own mode and Brs. And a secondary Br for when you take it to the normal Match maker.

some vehicles to add to your list. use google if you wonder what it is. it’s usually not hard to find
