Since I haven’t found a general thread about Italian Navy, this one would serve that purpose.
Feel free to discuss current representation of Italian vessels and their issues (bugs, RoF, accuracy and etc), as well as possible additions including subtrees.
PS maybe some day, when I have a free time, I will made something similar to my theoretical GF and AF Italian TTs (they also need some update btw), but for Naval Forces.
I’ve researched every coastal and bluewater fleet vessel in the Italian TT, apart from Baleno and Roma.
Currently I’m more focused on Baleno, I have more fun with coastal, compared to top tier naval.
Honestly I’m kinda disappointed in battleships, playing them now, especially after the addition of BB bots is a pure suffering, plus current Roma condition doesn’t motivate me much. I wish Gaijin will pay some attention to RoF issues of Italian ships and in general balance this parameter across nations, since there are a lot of questions to devs regarding this subject (like some cannons having theoretical RoF, some practical or just same cannons/turrets having different RoF on different nations ships - this is about Italian Minisini cannons of course).
For future bluewater additions my current hopes go to ships between BBs and heavy cruisers, like Regina Elena, Regina Margherita, Pisa, San Giorgio (1940), plus I am waiting for San Giorgio class destroyers, as well as Romanian Regele Ferdinand class representation in the Italian tech tree.
The Austro-Hungarian Empire has nothing to do with Hungary (post-fall of the empire); they are two distinct entities. It makes no sense to add the ships of the Austro-Hungarian Empire to the Italian TT because the SMS Viribus Unitis and the SMS Szent István were sunk by Italian MAS, and at least seven other Austro-Hungarian ships, captured during the war, were scrapped in Italy. Would this also mean that the tanks and planes of Austria (post-fall of the empire) would also be added to the Italian TT?
Within the Austro-Hungarian dual monarchy, many ships were built in the shipyards of the Hungarian Kingdom. Therefore, the Hungarian subtree has the right to have those ships at least.
Dividing the Austro-Hungarian navy into Austrian-built and Hungarian-built is a possibility, but a dumb one for sure. Germany has absolutely no need for more ww1 ships. And it really does not matter that in ww1 Italy and A-H were on opposing sides. We have Taiwan and China in the same tree and soon North and South Korea.
And after the dissolution, the Hungarian Kingdom kept a few A-H river monitors, even upgrading them with modern guns.
its 2025, brother. 1918 has long passed. And even Rizzo didn’t care about it, he was just happy to get discharged.
I would understand if an Abrams given to China would make no sense, but this is a video game at the end of the day.
I am not arguing for either end here since I prefer to stay neutral (and just infodump lol) but the Hungarian half of the Empire had large influence on the Navy due to control over half of the finances. SMS Saida, SMS Helgoland, SMS Szent Istvan, and Battleship X + Battleship XI were built/planned to be built in Hungarian dockyards, specifically Ganz-Danubius, as repayment for passing navy spending bills (via payment to said Hungarian companies and investments into the Hungarian economy.)
In my opinion, since Hungary is placed in the Italian TT, so far it would be the best option to place vessels of Austro-Hungary there, plus gamewise Italy has rather small amount of Dreadnoughts BBs, all of which are already implemented into the game.
Yes there are ships close to them which I mentioned above like Regina Elena and Margherita pre-dreadnoughts or San Giorgio armored cruisers, but they won’t cover that area.
Germany, which is the only in-game nation which could accommodate A-H ships apart from Italy, has a very large pool of such vessels already by itself. Plus I still think Hungary has enough ties to Austro-Hungary to place both stuff in one TT.
The only question is Austria, how will it be implemented, will it be introduced in a subtree or their vehicles will be scattered across different nations? From what I’ve seen they don’t have much in terms of unique tech though.
About more modern Hungarian vessels, found this one, Yugoslav-built Neštin-class river minesweeper:
Spoiler
The Hungarian Danube Flotilla received six Neštin-class minesweepers in 1981 from Yugoslavia. In Hungarian service, they were designated as MS-25. Today three, “Óbuda”, “Dunaújváros”, and “Dunaföldvár”, are still operated by HDF 1st EOD & River Flotilla Battalion.
Btw if you haven’t seen yet, RN Luigi Cadorna is coming as a free BP reward:
Now we have every Condottiero (my former nickname btw 😆 ) class)
But there are still some ships of that class to add, including postwar Giuseppe Garibaldi.
Regarding Cadorna, as far as I understand, it should be like RN Bartolomeo Colleoni, but with Montecuccoli cannons, looking at Bolzano and considering naval developers “love” towards Italy I expect 5.3 BR, rather than 5.0.
I want to see more Romanian ships ingame, especially in coastal tree. To this day they actually have a somewhat decent native naval industry.
Otherwise until gaijin adds guided missile destroyers I think the best we can see is post-war upgrades of Cruisers and destroyers from the 1950s. As for top tier, maybe just add another littorio.
Rank 4 and 5 can see a bunch of pre-dreadnaught battleships like Re Umberto, Ammiraglio di Saint Bon, Regina Margherita, or Regina Elena class. They would be like the early WW1 German battleships or like the early Japanese battleships.
Lastly regarding Austro-Hungarian ships, a few were actually given to Italy in treaties after the war, so if anything they could appear ingame right now without an excuse. Otherwise for non Italian used Austro-Hungarian ships, they wouldnt really add much apart from the later battleships (of which one was given to Italy so problem solved). I think the only really interesting item that could be added (that Italy doesnt already have a domestic counterpart for) is the Ersatz Monarch class, which was never completed. Obviously this means nothing for naval as we have many fake ships, and the Ersatz Monarch had some parts completed before cancellation. It would be kind of unique ingame and could probably be at like 7.0.
Here is the Ersatz Monarch blueprint:
Additionally the most advanced battleship produced by Austria Hungary was given to Italy and actually was used in a film (SMS Tegetthoff)
It had primary armament of 12x 305mm cannons
