Description: Luigi Cadorna was an Italian light cruiser. She was laid down in 1930, but she was ready only in 1933, which was quite a lot of time for a cruiser. She took part in the Spanish Civil War in 1937, where she performed mainly patrol missions and support to the Italian ground troops. In 1939, she was sent to support the Italian army in Albania, and she was tasked with destroying whatever naval forces the Albanians had. When the second world war broke out, she was part of the fourth cruiser group, where she was tasked with laying some minefields initially. She later took part in the battle of Calabria, where she was able to shoot down and repel various allied aircraft that were trying to attack the sistership Armando Diaz. In 1941, the ship was used as a heavy armed convoy escort, and by November 1941, she was directly used as a transport ship. In early 1942 she was sent to Pola for train new recruits, but by July of the same year she was already sailing again towards Taranto, where she was assigned again to mine laying missions alongside the newly made Scipione Africano, from the Capitani Romani class light cruiser. When the armistice occurred on September 8, 1943, she sailed to Malta and delivered herself to the allied forces and survived the war. After the end of this latter one, she was one of the few ships that were returned to the Italian Navy, where she performed training tasks until 1951, when she was scrapped.
