Description: RN Legionario was an Italian destroyer of the second world war. Her’s construction began in 1940 as the fourth ship of the second batch of Soldati-class destroyers, and she was delivered in 1942. But before being sent to active service, she received the German Fu.Mo 24/40Ggl Seetakt, thus being the first Italian ship to ever equip a radar. It was successfully used for the first time in the battle of Middle June, where Legionario was able to provide important data to the fleet by detecting various groups of aircraft. She later took part in various escort missions and was also one of the first Italian ships to encounter American bombers in the Mediterranean. In September 1943, after the armistice, she sailed to Malta with most of the other Italian vessles, but she was forced to stop in Tunisia for some days due to various technical issues that emerged during the travel. After she reached Malta, she was put in service with the Cobelligerants and started to transport allied supplies and soldiers to the various zones of the frontlines. After the war ended, she was given to France as a war reparation, where she was renamed Duchaffault. Armament wise, the Legionario featured a nearly identical weapons layout to the others Soldati class destroyers, which included 5x 120 mm guns, 10x 20/65 mm Breda, 3x 533 mm torpedoes, and various depth charges.
