BeNeLux Ground Forces

Belgium - Netherlands - Luxembourg

image image image

Hello everyone! Welcome to the official BeNeLux Ground Forces Techtree suggestion. This BeNeLux Techtree has been made by the Fan-made BeNeLux Techtree Discord server: https://discord.gg/PEW9bFp

Foreword:

What is the BeNeLux?

BeNeLux stands for Belgium - Netherlands - Luxembourg. It is an official politico-economic union and formal international intergovernmental cooperation of three neighboring states in western Europe.

Why combine the countries into one techtree?

From a historical point of view, Belgium and the Netherlands already have military cooperations. For example, there is a BeNeLux Navy Command, both countries purchased each others military products in the past, and with the Air Force, both the Netherlands and Belgian squadrons take turns protecting the BeNeLux Air Space.

From an ingame point of view the Netherlands and Belgium are two countries that both have lots of very interesting vehicles, but are also both a little lacking in some regards when we look at them from an ingame point of view. To give some examples:

Netherlands: Unique Air Force, Little lacking in Army, Very unique Navy.
Belgium: Unique Air Force, lots of unique Army vehicles, lacking in their Navy.

You can quite easily see why a union of the two countries makes sense. Together both countries add to eachother, Belgium adds to the lacking Dutch army, and the Dutch add to the lacking Belgian Navy.

How about Luxembourg?

Well it is true that Luxembourg does not add anything of value to the BeNeLux techtrees (From an ingame point of view Luxembourg only has a TOW armed Humvee and an armed Police helicopter).
But then again they also wouldn’t make sense in a German or French techtree either. In reality Luxembourg does not have a place in War Thunder. But since the BeNeLux is an official union we decided to include Luxembourg just for the sake of giving them a place ingame.
Their Air Force and Army decals can be added allongside Belgian and Dutch onces.

A quick introduction:

Looking ingame right now, we have a very rare oppertunity. Aside from a few modified Dutch designs such as the German Kanonenboot K2 (Which is a modified Dutch K-class gunboat), and the Finnish Fokker D.21 (Which has been modified by the Finish by adding 20mm guns under the wings) we actually don’t have a single true Belgian, Dutch or Luxembourg vehicle ingame.

So unlike the latest added nation, Israel (We already had Merkava’s in the US techtree and a Shot in the British techtree), the BeNeLux would add all completely new and unique vehicles to the game.

This suggestion is for the Ground Forces Techtree. It brings tons of very unique new ground vehicles across all ranks. The only rank that is lacking in full uniqueness is Rank II, but even there you will find rare 75mm armed versions of the Ram 2 tank, and two funny SPAA trucks. Belgium is the most unique in this techtree, thanks to the many different experimental vehicles the defense and the security company John Cockerill has made.

So with that out of the way, let’s dive in!

Leopard 1A5BE Cockerill 3105

image

Description: Belgian Leopard 1A5 tank fitted with a Cockerill 3105 turret. The tank was made as a proposal for countries that still operated the Leopard 1. The 3105 turret has access to all the modern equipment, this Cockerill proposal fits the tank with a new turret ring that would allow the 3105 turret to fit. The reason the turret ring is so tall is because the Leopard 1 hull is not tall enough to fit the turret basket.

The reason for this one being at 11.3 unlike the ingame tanks fitted with the Cockerill 105mm gun is because we suggest it be added with access to the M1060CV round, giving the tank access to the most up to date APFSDS round which is said to pen 560mm at 2,000 meters at a 60° angle.

Centurion Mk 5/2 NL (1968, Continental)

Description: Dutch version of the Centurion Mk 5/2 that was used to test fitting in a Continental Diesel engine. Fitting Continental Diesel engines to Centurion tanks is more well known nowadays with the Israeli’s, Swedish and South Africans all doing it, or something similar.
But back in the day the Dutch were one of the first to actually do it. And it was their results that futher helped the idea spread to other nations.
In the end only two Dutch Centurions were tested with this eninge swap, and the Dutch Army chose the Leopard 1 over this re-engined Centurion proposal.

CV9035NL

Description: Dutch version of the CV90 Mk.3. The Dutch model is armed with the 35mm Bushmaster. And something unique about the Dutch CV90 can be found in the rear. The rear deck behind the turret is slighty raised. This is done because Dutch people are on average quite tall, so the raised rear makes the internal compartment for the infantry a bit bigger, thus allowing the more taller individuals to earily get in and out of the vehicle.

Scorpion 90

Description: The Scorpion 90 also known as the Scorpion 2 was a variant of the successful FV101 Scorpion developed in the early 80’s in an attempt to bring a more powerful variant of the vehicle to export customers. The normal Scorpion had been a rather successful venture and Alvis hoped to capitalize on that by offering an improved vehicle armed with a 90 mm CMI Defence Mk III gun. The vehicle seen on the photo above is a Belgian Scorpion that was tested in Belgium.

Big +1!
Even though we omitted like 90% of the Cockerill stuff, but that’s what the comment section is for! ;)

Yeahhh, i wont command to much about this tree. Most intrested in this tree propably already know my opinion about it

well
now is the time to discuss it without it being off-topic

eh tmw maybe, want to finish up my own suggestion and then go sleep

A lazer rangefinder on a casemate kinda sounds fun. And I have a dislike of playing casemates.

Nice compilation m8. There are decent chunk of unique vehicle and modifications here. So I’ll give +1 for this one.

Though I think the proposal in its current form has two problems:

  1. The tree has some large gap between some BR, most notably at 5.0, 7.0, and 9.0 that definitely needs more vehicle to fill the void.
  2. There are way too many vehicles with similar BR spread all over rank 5 - 7, many of which are reduandant performance-wise. The TD line are the worst offenders, as somehow there are somehow filled with vehicles with only 0.3 BR difference from rank 5 - 7. So I suggest you using folder to deflate the tech tree to not unneccesary pad out the grind.

It was a conscious decision by super_cacti to make the tree as compact as possible to cut out most the copy-paste (WW2 c&p can’t be avoided though) and not make nonsensical folders
That being said, i don’t necessarily share those views and i’m going to make an extended version of the tree and post it there :)

i dont think new tech trees should be added, gaijin should fill up the current trees first

Gaijin already stated more are coming, might as well make the best of it

but that wouldnt be benelux<.<

Perhaps, perhaps not.
I’d much rather it over other options provided by the community.

I don’t mind the Benelux and would welcome their addition.

The I won’t lie I’m a bit greedy an would like it if it came after a Canadian tree so I can have Dutch vehicles as premiums.

But whatever order they are added in I’d still play the Benelux tree to show our loyal friendship to the Dutch.

I went ahead and made my own extended version of the tree without making it bloated (new vehicles with the red dot)

(I also changed some BRs around but they’re approximate, it’s just my opinion)

+1 for BENELUX, a fantastic candidate for the next TT.

Edit; as the second largest user of the vehicle, did Belgium operate the Scorpion 76 for long prior to upgrading them?
