Belgian Ground Forces - Résiste et Mords !

Hey everyone,

On one of my recent posts, i saw that a fair amount of people were in favor of a Belgian sub-tree to France. So in the event that a BeNeLux tree is denied, here’s my suggestion for it!

Now i have heard some people say a Belgian sub-tree should go to Germany, but i don’t think it makes any sense nor is it necessary. You’re free to want this for Germany or something else of course, but this suggestion is oriented towards the French tree.

Why France? Let me give you a few reasons

  • Belgium is culturally and politically very close to France, as almost half of Belgium speaks French
  • The Belgian army is working very closely with the French army and is buying a lot of French equipment with the ‘CaMo’ program (Capacité Motorisée) such as Caesar cannons, EBRC Jaguar, etc.
  • France notoriously lacks stabilized vehicles all the way up to 9.3, and Belgium could provide some badly needed stabilized equipment
  • France currently isn’t played a lot compared to bigger nations, and a new subtree could easily pump those numbers up and make Gaijin invest more in it.

Here’s the subtree in the usual line form:

Spoiler

While it does make the tree quite chonky, a few issue arise when taking this approach.
First and foremost, it is limited to a single line and limits Belgian potential quite severely.
But it is also simply impossible to have more than 5 lines in a tree at the moment, due to a UI problem that Gaijin hasn’t solved yet.

Fortunately, there is an idea floating around - “tab” sub-trees!

Simply put, they would be large subtrees consisting of several lines placed in a separate tab just like the Army tabs, Helicopter tabs, Bluewater fleet tabs, etc.
In this case, we would see a “Belgium” tab next to the Bluewater fleet tab!
Capture d’écran (715)

While there are no “tab sub-trees” in the game yet, they would be perfect solutions for nations that have too many unique vehicles to be compressed into a single line, but not quite enough to make a full tree on their own.

With this idea in mind, i also made two Belgian tab trees, what you could call a “mini-tech tree”, a smaller, reasonable one as well as a bigger, more ambitious one.

Smaller tab tree

Bigger tab tree

As you can see - there was indeed too much to compress into a single line!

Unfortunately, there are no heavy tanks - Belgian vehicles are for fast, powerful light tanks enjoyers!

Belgian AMC 35 used during the Second World War. This was also the best tank the Belgian Army had at the time. Something that sets the Belgian ones apart from the French ones is that multiple sources state that a Hotchkiss 13.2 mm heavy machine gun was fitted coaxially with the main gun instead of the 7.5mm machine gun, or at least tested with it by the FRC.

While Belgium never used the Scorpion 90 in service, at least one appears to have been tested or used, and it would be a shame not to include it as Belgium was the single biggest user of the CVR-T family outside of the UK. Interestingly, this one has the standard Mk III cannon.

And that’s about it!

(Big thanks to @super_cacti for letting me use the vehicle descriptions from the BeNeLux suggestion, make sure to check it out too!)

Now even in the large version, there are still more vehicles i could have used, such as various Cobras, M108s, M109s, Leopards, several Cockerill testbeds and such, but you can discuss them in the comments if you’d like!

Like i said, if the BeNeLux tree or alliance trees in general are denied, i think this would be an ideal addition to bolster French ranks.

Thanks for reading!

A subtree shouldnt be a reason to add even more C&P. But the native vehicles are wellcome.

+1, I’m for this being addition to France.

It’s an obvious +1 from me as I want to see some tech of my own country represented in the game. That being said, a subtree is usually meant to fill certain capability gaps in the mother nation and some ideas in the tree in its conventional form don’t fully correspond to that. Obviously the standalone line works (although I’m not 100% on board with the K21 thing, you know this) and with its stabilized vehicles could indeed offer capabilities that domestic French vehicles will struggle with (though they do exist).
I however don’t think the the Cockerill i-X and the SPAA line additions are strictly necessary as France has better domestic options to extend or fill these lines.

The tab tree proposal would be the outcome imo. It allows to add these vehicles without blocking domestic French vehicles, giving both trees the possibility to reach their full potential while simultaneously profiting from the benefits that they bring to each other.

I thought i did a decent job getting rid of as many copy paste vehicles as possible, could you tell me which vehicles you are referring to?

While France might have other SPAA options, i just wasn’t going to ignore the magnificent Cockerill i-X as it is very unique, hope you understand

Absolutely!

-1, I’d much rather see it as part of a Benelux tech tree.
Alternatively it could work as a sub-tree for an independent Dutch one, but that would be far less desirable.

Yeah like i said, personally i’m only suggesting it if alliance trees or the Benelux specifically are denied, that’s why i included “I’d rather have a Benelux tree” in the poll

It’s nice to see this idea becoming a suggestion. Furthermore Gaijin should consider adding Belgian vehicles to the French tt as premiums, squadron, events in the close future. It could end up being a sub tree or a full BeNeLux tt.

The M24, AEC MK III technicall, the leopards, but i suppose they are modified anyway (and i dont care about modern stuff.)

Sure the M24 and Leopards are slightly modified (Leopards more heavily so) but that still represents a small portion of the suggestion imo

I definitely think they should! It’s pretty disappointing to see 0 Belgian vehicles after almost 12 years of this game

I dislike the concept of BENELUX as a whole, however, good reference.

BITE HARD CUS WE ARE ALL IN SIGHT

Cobras all look awesome, however i can see few reasons as to why people might not like this proposal

  • Another TT greyhound while US have theirs as event reward
  • TT AEC Armored car while brits have theirs as event reward
  • three leopards 1 similiar to those already in game
  • By the looks of it, it would be hard to put together a working lineup (not unique to this proposal mind you)

You first point doesn’t make sense, the Belgian one has more armour plating against aircraft cannons. Even then it wouldn’t make much sense to not include a tank because their native original version is only an event exclusive.
You better read the Leo 1 descriptions again, only one is basically already in game.
This suggestion is a subtree, its nature is that lineups are difficult to form, that’s why they are a sub or are combined with another (like BeNeLux)…

I get what you mean, you can leave out the M8 and AEC without issue but see, the Leopards were the Belgian MBTs during most of its post-war existence as i believe Belgium was the first country to order the Leopard (apart from Germany ofc), and while we do have a Canadian MEXAS Leopard in the game, Belgium was actually the first to experiment with MEXAS armour on their Leopards, sure it doesn’t matter in the game, but it’s a technicality i like to point out.

Also as i am suggesting a sub-tree, there shouldn’t be any problems making lineups along with the main tree (presumably France)

“Your point of vehicle being copypaste is invalid because this one has exactly one (1) extra armor plate and that makes him entirely different and your point totally moot!”

I did read them, i can assure you.

I mean yeah, im not denying that.

I just dont think the trend of “new tree/subtree ends up with minor modification of vehicle already present in one nation” should continue, because we will eventually end up with Leopard 2 only games.

No issue with that, on the contrary im all for subtree. just voicing my concern.

I like it a lot! Obviously I’d prefer a BeNeLux tree, but this is a perfectly acceptable alternative. Just so you know, the entry for SIBMAS Scorpion 90 (Late) in the premium section is empty. It just has the title and nothing else. Otherwise perfect! +1

Then I presume you like to use the C&P argument for whole tech trees then? Gaijin certainly won’t be able to literally copy and paste a vehicle from one TT to the other and would have to make additions and other changes to its 3D model (adding armour plates, other SMG’s, tracks in case of tanks, tanker models, etc. This is what we see in the US and USSR tech tree numerous times). This argument raises the question of what exactly constitutes C&P, which obviously means something different for the both of us. I would like to ask of you what your view is on C&P, as I get a negative intonation from your messages so far regarding adding modified versions of base vehicles we already have in game. ex.g. How do you view the addition of the M1A1 AIM or the M1A1 vs the M1A1 SEP? All of these tanks are (slight) modifications, sometimes not even visual ones, (read like C&P to some) of a base model already in game.

I could understand why adding another (1) M8 to a tech tree could upset players that already have such a vehicle, but it’s not like you are forced to unlock this vehicle and this one is even visually different from the event one in the US tree and the Chinese one in the TT.
