Chilean Ground Forces Sub-tree

Chilean Leopard 2A4CHL using a mobile camouflage system from the Isareli company Fibrotex

This suggestion is a complement to the previous 3 suggestions I have made that are the Chilean air, naval and Helicopter subtree for Israel, for the history and details please check out the other 3 suggestions within the forum.

History between Chile and Israel

During the 1970s Chile was going through very tense moments with its 3 neighbors (Argentina, Bolivia and Peru) that had territorial claims and like Israel at the time Chile was politically alone and surrounded by belligerent countries and because Chile was under the government of Dictator Augusto Pinochet accused of crimes against humanity, the country was under an embargo on military purchases. Chile was interested in buying European tanks but no country was willing to sell weapons to Chile for fear of losing its good relations with the United States.

This is how Chile turned to Israel, which accepted the request for help. Thus, in 1977, Chile and Israel signed a contract for the purchase of various Israeli tanks, M-51 and M-50 Super Shermans arriving in Chile (both models would later be modified in Chile), and many 60mm IMI HVMS cannons were purchased, Chile being its only user and arming the M24 Chaffee and M-50 with this powerful anti-tank cannon, in this way experienced Israeli instructors traveled to Chile to train the Chilean crews, and created a new doctrine for the Chilean armored forces.

In the air field, Israel was also willing to sell the Shafrir II Air-to-Air Missiles to Chile, which would be the main air means to be able to confront the fighters of Chile’s neighbors and installing these missiles on the Hawker Hunter and F-5 Tiger II that in those years were the best fighters in Chile. Fortunately, the almost wars that were going to occur, mainly with Argentina, were resolved diplomatically at the last second.

After these historic events, Chile would not forget the help that Israel gave it in difficult times, which is why they continued to cooperate in the field of military purchases and modifications, mainly in Chilean fighters. Currently, a large amount of Chilean military equipment is made up of Israeli weapons (assault rifles, missiles, howitzers, mortars, rocket artillery, military vehicles) and an agreement was signed between both countries to expand defense cooperation.

As a curiosity within the game there is a Chilean camouflage for one of Israel’s tanks, specifically the premium M-51, so there is already a link between the two countries in the game.

Disclaimers:

  • Not necessarily all the vehicles from the following list must be added, they can be chosen according to the convenience of the tree in which it would be implemented and moved as necessary. It was ordered in the best way I found possible.
  • The BR of this tree represent the realistic game mode.
  • Some data may not be 100% accurate, also some sources may contradict in some aspects such as technical specifications, basically I did what I could with what I found, if anyone has more information I would appreciate it if you share it in the comments section.

  • Description:
    • In 1952, a total of 17 Sherman tanks of the M4A1E9 version with a radial engine, which ran on 100/110 octane white gasoline, arrived in Chile. They were updated, rebuilt and modernized by Chrysler. Part of the process was the installation of the so-called “spaced suspension”, which gave them the E9 designation. Grouser extenders were installed to increase track width. The E9 modification included wider track protective fenders and “fender clamps”, they also had additional armor on the sides that can be easily seen from the outside (where the ammunition magazines are located), on the right side of the mantlet (protecting to the gunner and commander). They were in service for some decades in Chile. They were finally decommissioned in the 1970s. Special variant not found in the game.

Leopard 1V

  • Description:
    • In 1997, Chile acquired 202 Leopard 1V combat tanks belonging to the Netherlands. These had a series of improvements which were a hydraulic turret stabilization system from the manufacturer Honeywell, appliqué-type spaced armor on the tank tower from the German manufacturer Blohm + Voss, side skirts on the hull and the EMES-12A3 AFSL-2 fire control system produced by Honeywell and Zeiss (today Hensoldt), so after this improvement process they received the designation 1V of Verbeterd or Improved. Before being received by Chile, the Panzer-Ziel night image intensification system und Beobachtungsgerät PZB 200 from AEG-Telefunken was added, a search light was also added to the top of the tank. Currently these tanks use Israeli IMI M413 Hetz-7 (APFSDS-T), IMI M156 (HESH) ammunition and the LAHAT anti-tank missile was also tested. There is also evidence of the use of the multispectral blanket of the Israeli company Fibrotex.

Easy +1 for Israel though I feel that a fourth line of Israeli vehicles should come before any subtrees. A Chilean subtree would also be good for allowing Israel to extend down to rank I.

I have also always been in favor of integrating Israel’s I-III ranks, they still have quite a few vehicles to include and I think there are several from this sub tree that would do very well for Israel. thanks for the support.

I want Israel to get a Rank 1-3 first, but I totally support this as well given the close partnership. It would also be fine in a future LatAm unified tree. +1 however it comes.

You’re welcome!

To be honesty this is exactly what Israel needs, loads of little Light Tanks for them does Chile have any IFVs or anything?

Other then the Marder and the Bushmaster one

Let’s say that right now Israel does not have many light tanks, it is a matter of looking at its tree, then it could be said that if they need them and Chile can give them to them and with the Israeli IMI HVMS cannon, with respect to the IFVs in the Chilean sub tree you have 4, the VTP-2 Escarabajo (which can serve as IFV or anti-aircraft), the Piraña 6x6 KUKA which has a 25 mm Oerlikon KBA cannon , the NZLAV and the Marder 1A3. I think 4 is fine, after all it is a subtree, not a complete tree. Now, if you think there is a nation that has more relationship in terms of vehicles with Israel than Chile, you can tell me.

Turkey Maybe idk Probs more of a premium thing like how India is with Britain

I believe that Turkey has enough unique vehicles of its own to have a complete separate tree, you can see it right here in the forum. In any case, I would be happy with Israel keeping Chile’s most important vehicles, that is, all those that have the IMI HVMS cannon, they would be very good additions for Israel.

In the old forum, I proposed Argentina as a subtree in Israel some time ago. Both nations have had ties since the 1970s.
There is a long list of relationships between both nations, among them: they sold us weapons in the Malvinas war, for the Mirages and the A-4s. We work with Israeli companies in the modernization of the IAI Dagger and IAI Finger, in the TAM VCLC with LAR-160 and MAR-350. The modernization of the VCA Palmaria have Israeli systems, as well as the modernization of the TAM SXXI and the Kurassier to the A2 version, all of them updated with Israeli systems. The Hero 120 and 30 systems. The modernization of the TAM 2C and 2CA2 and the TAM 2IP, including the ability to fire Lahat, are some examples of cooperation between both States.

Argentina can provide many light vehicles in all ranges, several of them unique in the game. The same with airplanes.

Argentina’s main problem in having its own TT is the lack of top-level MBTs and 4+ gen fighter-bombers. What Israel lacks, on the contrary, is a huge number of light vehicles that do scouting and launch drones, to fill out all lineups, even in the first ranks.

Chilean vehicles could even have their own tree with Argentinian and Brazilian vehicles. The latter is my preferred option.

But if I have to choose an Argentine subtree in Germany or Israel, I’ll choose Israel, Germany has other options.

@Chilean_Thunder Do you dare to do a Latin American TT between Chile, Brazil and Argentina?

I would love to play with Osorio and the L2CHL together with TAM, it is my dream.

I know Argentine vehicles and aircraft well, in recent months I have learned a lot about them since some of your compatriots have taught me a lot, I could even call them friends. We are already working on a project like this, I am in charge of things of Chile, so in the future you will see what you want here in the forum, a latam tree in the game is also my dream.

The game does not need even more copy pasta to grind thru just to get at actually unique vehicles. They should be added to an appropriate nation, generally the country of origin. like Israel for the HVSS, Germany for the Leos etc.

You know that will not happen, you have the clearest recent example of the integration of the Hungarian sub-tree to Italy where the Leopard 2A4 is exactly the same as the one from Germany without any change, not even in its ammunition, or the one in Sweden, or the T- 72M1. Things are not as we want and there will always continue to be copy paste whether the community likes it or not. In addition, this sub tree does not have much copy paste and as I described in the disclaimers, not exactly all vehicles should be added, if gaijin decides it can add only the most unique ones so that the community is calm.

But at least you did get some novel vehicles in the beginning before you got to the cut + paste. Sorry but most people don’t want to have to grind out a whole vehicle for basically a skin.
And you asked for opinions about what we’d like, not what Gaijin would do. No one has enough tea leaves and entrails for that. ;)

+1, Chile will serve well as a sub tree to Israel.
