Currently the early Mig-29 variants ingame are able to carry the R-27E series of missiles, which is ahistorical. The Mig-29 variants entered service before the R-27ER and those missiles were not exported to East Germany or Hungary, for example.
This causes a balancing issue ingame due to the R-27ER being such a potent SARH missile and the R-60m being pretty mediocre for the Mig-29’s br.
A simple solution to that problem would be to remove the R-27E from both the Mig-29 9.12 and 9.13 variants in exchange for the R-73 which was historically developed in conjunction with the Mig-29 and its Helmet Mounted Sight (HMS) and in case of the R-60 it shouldnt even be able to be slaved by the HMS without locking the target with either Radar ot the IRST.
The Mig-29 exchanging the R-27ER for the R-73 wouldnt be too big of an issue because the R-27R + R-73 can be seen on a fighter at a BR as low as 12.3 and in combintion with an HMS as well.
this would also help to make the early Mig-29 fall more into their intended role ingame as it would be able to be played more like a light fighter instead of a missile bus, that dosent get any missiles.
The Mig-21Bison has a better radar than the Mig-29 and 60 large calibre countermeasures unlike the Mig-29 (the CMs on the 29 were reduced to normal calibre a while ago)
and it should be able to carry 4x r73s, there’s a pic of the 21 93 (bison predecossor/russian bison) having that loadout option, lemme find it
proper r73 instesad of just a mockup
