Revising the Rate of Fire of the T-64, T-80, Т-72, ZTZ96, ZTZ99 Series and VT4, VT4A1 Tanks

Hey everyone! Today we’d like to share the results of our study on the documentation of automatic loaders found on the T-64/T-80 family of tanks.

crowd

Early vehicles in this series had a reload time of 7.1 seconds, while later vehicles (starting with the T-80U and T-80UD) had a reload time of 6.5 seconds. These estimates were based on technical descriptions, which stated a minimum reload time of 7.1 seconds. For later vehicles, the results were based on Greek trials with the T-80U, where it demonstrated a higher rate of fire during testing.

However, many in the community have repeatedly discussed the reload cycle diagrams of these tanks, which indicate that the full loading cycle of a shell (APFSDS, HE, HEAT) is 6.0 seconds, and for missiles 7.1 seconds (with the exception of the T-80UD, where it is indicated that all types of shells are loaded in exactly 6 seconds).

We believed these values were incorrect, as the reload cycle diagram was copied from the technical description of the Object 432 (a T-64 with a 115mm D-68 gun). However, after extensive research, we’ve concluded that the reload cycle diagrams in the technical descriptions of the T-64A, T-64B, T-80B and T-80UD are correct.

Autoloaders of the T-72 family

t_series_reload_3

The documentation for the T-72 series contains reload rate diagrams for firing a shot with the conveyor rotating by three slots. However, a training manual states the loading cycle would be 7 seconds exactly if subsequent shots were placed on the loading line, so the reload time will be reduced in accordance with this manual.

Autoloaders of the VT4, VT4A1 and ZTZ99A

Certain late Chinese-made tanks have an improved autoloader, slightly speeding up certain operations. This allowed for a rate of fire of 9 rounds per minute, a rate confirmed by our team of historical consultants and publicly available operating manuals.

So, based on the results of this research, the rate of fire of the following tanks will be adjusted:

Ok but how about the Leopard 2 family? They are the only 120mm cannons near top tier that has the old 6s aced reload while every others have 5s

Edit: I’ll be nice and add the Challenger 3 and Merkava Mk.3s in the list as well.

New Tank?

Will 105mm merkavas also see a firerate change? I feel like the Mk.2D especially needs it at 10.0

6.7 sec reload with a 105 in 10.0 is kinda sad

Forced to spend GE or grind countless hours to get ACE, only for it to match the most common T series.

WZ1001(E) LCT and ZTZ99A are literally the same, why there is a difference?

No, VT-4B is just the internal file name for VT-4A1

The T-64A 100% is getting moved up. Probably the T-80UD as well. A 6 sec autoloader at 9.3. It basically is a 9.3 Type 90

and what about the WZ1001, it has a similar automatic loader design as the ZTZ99A

I wonder where the UD will go now considering it already should have been 10.7 without the buff

Idk how this all works on mobile but the T64A cycle diagram clearly says 7 seconds

This is also assuming that the rate of fire for the autoloader is on maximum at all times so when do the Japanese tanks get their non sustainable fire rates just like these tanks

Following onto that, this is just poorly timed with the BMPT being evidently too powerful from a toddlers glance (fact checked)

I can assume that the extensive research was actually conducted to find out how to buff a Russian tank without upsetting the playerbase too much

Reload rate is a balancing tool. Japanese tanks dont need the better firerate. What japanese tanks need is a fix to their steering and transmissions

Autoloaders aren’t subject to balancing rules

So with the Challenger 3TD over BRed, can it finally get 5 second reload, maybe make it worth using over the Challenger 2s at 11.7? If not, can it go down to 11.7? Where even then, its probably not worth using without 5 second reload

very cool
