Goodday everyone, today I want to suggest an event idea of mine that I’ve been thinking about for quite some time now.

This is Operation R.E.L.I.C.!

This event is made to bring back (almost) ALL hidden/removed content from the game.
Think of things such as:

  • Old event vehicles
  • Hidden vehicles
  • Old event 3D decorations
  • Old event decals
  • Profile icons
  • Profile titles

Before I dive straight in, I think it’s important to point out some houserules.
I know a lot of people are very sensitive about the idea of bringing back old event vehicles, so hopefully I can put some of you at ease with these houserules.

  • This event will not give tradable coupons of ANY KIND.
Everything unlocked in this event is instantly activated on the players account.
    NO COUPONS!
If a player already owns something for sale in this event, then the player simply won’t be able to buy it since it’s already on it’s account.

  • This event does not include the Twitch Drop vehicles.
The Twitch Drop things already have a proper platform where they can be re-introduced so it won’t be necessary here.

  • This event does not include Tournament related content.
There are some rare Tournament things ingame, such as the 2019 YouTube Cup vehicles. Since these vehicles are just special re-skins of existing vehicles, and they were earned during a special tournament, they will not be given away in this event.

  • In order to claim a vehicle, the player must have the rank tied to set vehicle unlocked for that techtree.
Example 1: If you want to claim the VK 45.01 (P), then you need to have Rank III for German ground unlocked in the researchable techtree.
Example 2: If you want to claim the MiG-25PD, then you need to have Rank VII for USSR air unlocked in the researchable techtree.

With that out of the way, let’s dive in!

1.0: The event setup and rules.

The setup and rules of this event are very simple since it will be a direct copy of those seen in the yearly SUMMER and WINTER events.

Players will be able to unlock stars (image) for each vehicle type ingame, by playing the game and earning ingame mission points for the respective vehicle type. And the tasks are renewed every two days at 11:00 GMT.

But instead of unlocking rewards as the player gets more and more image, I instead propose that the image are used as a currency that can be used to buy all the old content that is being brought back with this event.

One chance I propose for this Operation R.E.L.I.C. is that the maximum number of image that can be earned for each vehicle type is 12, instead of the current 10 that is used for the SUMMER and WINTER events.
Being able to earn 12image stars for each vehicle type used to be the norm back in the day, as can be seen with the Summer Landing (2021) and Operation W.I.N.T.E.R. (2021).

This means that players can earn 12 Air image, 12 Ground image, and 12 Naval image.

Having a max of 12image for each vehicle type, instead of 10, gives us much more flexibility in the reward prices. It rewards new players to have the ability to buy more lower Rank vehicles, and it increases the rarity of high price vehicles that require more grinding to unlock.

1.1: Why bring back old event vehicles?

Over the years we’ve been given tons of new event vehicles, but the old onces rarely make a return. Personally I think this is a bad thing, I would want new players to have the ability to experience the vehicles I’ve been able to unlock over the years. I know a lot of people want their collection to stay rare, and flex on the new players. But honestly I find this way of thinking very selfish, and I think everyone should be able to experience everything the game has to offer in one way or another.

A suggestion had been made some years ago addressing this issue, and proposes some basic ways to bring them back.

Ofcourse in this suggestion I’m showing my idea on how to bring them back in an Event format.

1.2: How do we keep certain vehicles rarer then others?

The beauty of this event setup idea is that it is extremely adaptable. The most obvious way to make something rarer then others is to increase it’s image price.

But I will give many more examples on how to “lock” event vehicles behind high requirements in section 3.0.
But in short, we can “connect/folder” vehicles together. This would mean that you must unlock a certain event vehicle before being able to unlock the next. For new players that don’t have any event vehicles already, this would mean that there is a massive amount of grinding they would have to do to unlock some of the truely rare vehicles.

2.0: Setup of the rewards.

All rewards for this event will be displayed in an ingame store page. This store page will use the overall layout of already ingame techtrees, but now it will only display the hidden/event vehicles/decorations/etc. At the top of this store page will the tabs that allow people to switch through the vehicles, decorations and other pages.

As stated in section 1.0. The max number of image that can be unlocked is 12 image for each vehicle type! (So 12 Air image, 12 Ground image, and 12 Naval image).

2.1: 3D decorations, Skins, and other smaller rewards.

Item prices: 1image - 4image

There are so many old decorations and things that have been added during event over the years. Many people might not even know of some of the rarer onces. I’m talking about you Tri colour aerobatic smoke.

Bringing all these cool items back would be really nice for new players. Even if a player is not able to get enough image to buy a nice event vehicle, the player will still be able to spend it on some nice decorations!

  • Things like Player profile icons and decals should be around the price of 1image.
  • 3D decorations and pre-order/special camouflages should be more towards 2image - 3image.
  • And very rare decorations and special things like the Tri colour aerobatic smoke are around 4image.

2.2: Event vehicles.

Item prices: 3image - 12image

This is ofcourse the main focus of the entire event. People want the nice shiny event vehicle more then a small 3D decoration ofcourse. That is why the price range for event vehicles is that much larger then the onces for the decorations.

When assigning a price to each event vehicle I propose assigning a rough price determined by the Rank and BR of the vehicle.
Which would look something like this:
Rank I: 3image - 4image.
Rank II: 4image - 5image.
Rank III: 5image - 6image.
Rank IV: 6image - 7image.
Rank V: 7image - 8image.
Rank VI: 8image - 9image.
Rank VII: 9image - 10image.

But this only counts for the normal/common event vehicles. The truely rare onces will deviate from this. Like the E-100 or IS-7 that should cost the maximum 12image. And things like the old M4 748 (a) and T-34 Prototype, which should be very expensive for their Rank. I honestly think they should still cost something like 11image.

3.0: Example illustration of ground vehicles for this event.

In order to perfectly demonstrate my idea on what the Event Vehicle store for this event should look like I’ve made the illustration seen below. Take a good look and make sure to read the notes for additional information and ideas.

Link for the full size image: https://i.imgur.com/Bz0bYdx.jpeg

Note 1: (Top left)

This is an example of “connecting/foldering” two or more vehicles together. By doing this we can add another grinding aspect to this event. In this example we’re got a 9image vehicle locked behind a 4image one. This means that a player needs 13image to get both. Now since you can only get 12image in this event, this means that the player would have to play this event again the next year to unlock the second vehicle.

This allows us to “lock” certain high value vehicles behind a requirement that means players need to play the event for multiple years to get the super rare rewards.

Note 2: (Top left)

This another example of Note 1, Vehicles that are connected do not have to be of the same Rank. This allows us to lock high value top rewards behind one or more low tier onces.

Note 3: (Middle left)

This is yet another example of “connecting/foldering” vehicles together. Only now we split the line and give the player multible options. In this example I’ve chosen the legendary E-100. This is a vehicle that must be extremely hard to unlock, and so I’ve placed it in a line behind the Panther II and Tiger II (10.5). Since both those vehicles cost 8image and 9image, it is impossible to unlock them both in one year. Meaning that to get the E-100, you have to play the event for three years straight.

But the Maus, altough not as rare as the E-100, is still a high value reward for many people. Instead of putting the Maus in a line with some other vehicles, we can instead make it branch of from the Tiger II (10.5). Now players have the option to chose either the Maus, or E-100.

Note 4: (Middle right)

This is another example of how we can “lock” certain vehicles behind a high requirement. And in this example I’ve locked the AMX-50 (TO90) and AMX-50 Surblindé behind a litteral paywall. In order to unlock the two event vehicles, you must first own the Somua SM.

Instead of “connecting/foldering” only event vehicles to eachother, we could connect them to a standard Premium vehicle instead. Or, even a researchable techtree vehicle!

I am aware that putting multible event vehicles behind a paywall like this will be very unpopular. But I am simply taking a neutral position for this suggestion and showing the adaptability of this event format, and how certain vehicles can be keep their super rare status by putting them behind high requirements.

Some more examples not shown in the illustration:
Premium examples:

Techtree examples:

Note 5: (Bottom left)

Here we’ve got another example of two foldered vehicles. But instead of all the previous examples, here the second vehicle goes down in price instead of up. To use this example, we’ve got the CCVL and LOSAT. The LOSAT uses the CCVL chassis, so it only makes sence to put them together, and since the LOSAT is more of a specialised ATGM variant it can be put in there at a lower price. Meaning players can unlock it the next year and have much more image left to buy other things on top of the LOSAT.

4.0: Why bring back everything in one single event?

Event vehicles are ofcourse rare, that is the whole point. So making an event that bring back EVERYTHING feels kind of counter intuitive. But because there are so many event vehicles ingame as of now, there is simply put, too much choice.

Yes everything comes back for players to unlock. But even if you grind all day long for this event, you only get 12image for each vehicle type. Air, Ground and Naval. If you would only play this event to unlock event vehicles, you will very quickly start to lag behind. If you choose just the mid tier rewards, you’ll be able to get six vehicles in total (Two Air, Two Ground and Two Naval). But looking at the Battlepass, the frequent events, the SUMMER or WINTER events…all in all, over a normal year there will certainly be more then 6 new event vehicles added to the game. If you only play this event I suggest here, you will lag behind and never be able to unlock everything.

Even veteran players that have played many of the older events already will still be missing some vehicles and take years to unlock them all using this event I suggest here.

So in the end, this event I suggest here would drown players in choice. So many cool things to unlock, and yet not enough image to get it all in one go. An event like this should encourage players to come back to it year after year. And for the Veteran players it allows them to pick up the vehicles or items they are still missing.

5.0: Conclusion and final words.

So there you have it, this has been an idea long in the making for me. I used to have a suggestion for an event like this on the old forum. But that is now taken offline ofcourse, and I thought I was time to re-make it again on the new forum.

I would want this suggestion to become a nice civil discussion ground on how to bring back old event vehicles and rewards. Please let me know what you think, is there anything you would chance? Would you add something to this event?

Please keep it civil, there will ofcourse be people that dissagree with my suggestion and that is okay. I look forward to hearing all of your opinions and ideas!

Although this is similar to other suggestions, I think a standalone event is distinct enough from them.

This is an absolutely beautiful idea! I like how you were able to explain everything well also being able to not affect marketplace vehicle values to an extent! I also appreciate the ideas behind the stars for currency While still keeping it relatively competitive too. In this event, do you think they would allow the stars to be GE-able so Gaijin still make a profit off of this event and allow people who work or are in school to be able to buy them?

One question I have is with the locked vehicles. What if I own the AMX-50 TO90 and wanted to unlock the surblinde. Would I still need to buy the somua sm or would I be able to still grind for the surblinde?

+1!

I think a lot of people could misunderstand your suggestion. It’s not just “bring back old event vehicles”, it’s an actual event framework for how Gaijin could do it in a (possibly) balanced way.

The important part is the structure:

  • no coupons
  • progression chains/foldering
  • rank requirements
  • rarity scaling
  • yearly replayability

I also think the “no coupons” rule is one of the strongest parts of the idea, since it keeps the focus on gameplay progression instead of market speculation.

I would absolutely love this! There are some amazing vehicles in game that some of us will never get to play purely because we weren’t there at the time, or had to work that week and couldn’t afford to GE it at that time (for those that have this option).

It would be amazing to see some of the older vehicles on the battlefield once again. Your laid out rules seem fair as well including the rank based necessity. If it is based yearly new players will know exactly when they need to achieve the rank by so that would be fair to them.

Also having them as direct add in and removing the coupon for this would be really good and fair leaving only those who really want them taking the challenge on.

I would much rather have it be for convertible RP than having to grind for yet another event tbh

Thanks!

That is a good question I forgot to mention in my suggestion. But I do think that yes the stars will still be GE-able. But maybe at an increased price? It just comes down to what Gaijin wants to do. The stars are quite expensive to GE in the first place so maybe the normal price is fine.

Just like in the researchable techtree, it only looks at if you have the single vehicle that came before. So if you have the TO90 then you can continue right ahead to the Surblinde.

-1 i disagree on paid packs M4 and T34 are paid packs i don’t think they should be available for free unless mr snail refund players they costed like 60$ euro
i don’t think store tanks should be available for free why buy them from mr snail if i can get it from a event !?
image

-1 nien i don’t like this at all i don’t want to spend years in mr snail game to get free rewards
like a week or 2 or even a month is okay but years girl whattt?

i don’t like any of this at all 3 years???
what about old players who played from 10 years ago and who own old event tanks i need to stay in war thunder another 3 years o nien nien

My personal opinion i don’t like this system at all because it’s take years to get a event tank / rare ??? and i don’t like the idea of paid store tanks are for free like i see no point of buying anything from gajin store for collecting anything because if everything is available like titles from old packs / store it kills the point of collecting rare stuff they are no longer rare just add them to tec tree !

sorry for bad English i had to use mr google translate to type this.

The M4 748 (a) and T-34 Prototype are the only two Pack premium examples because they are treated as super rare event vehicles. Everything else from the store is just available on the store, this event only focusses on the hidden event vehicles that are no longer available.

I don’t understand this part. Veteran War Thunder players already have most of the old event vehicles so they don’t have to grind much at all. It’s the new players that have to start from scratch. The three year grind is quite honestly very little compared to how long most players have played by now. I started in 2013 so I’ve been playing for 13 years already, 3 years is nothing really.

I think you are hyper focussing on the super rare event vehicles that I’ve got locked behind a long grind. Please read the suggestion carefully again and see that the big majority of common event vehicles are not behind a multi year grind. Most you can get by playing the event just one time.

i am sorry i thought store tanks will be available i was confused !

and sorry again my English is limited i try my best to explain

not all old players have events tank unlocked what am confused about what if the old players already own some old event tanks like panther II and 105 tiger will it be available without waiting for more years?

my personal opinion i think for both old and new players 3 years is very long time !
3 years daily login ? or 3 years play a game daily am confused on this part !
i don’t think any tank should take over a month my opinion.

yes like IS-7 / object 279 / E-100 i played these tanks event i was only able to get object 279 event was painful and broke some nails but did not take years to get :D

i think this kind of tanks maybe should take max of 3 months for all players.

All the way at the top, under the “This event will not give tradable coupons of ANY KIND houserule I mentioned this about your question:

So you don’t have to grind it again or anything. If you already have it, it’s yours to keep.

This event comes once a year, and it’s about a month long. When I say you need to play the event for three years, then I mean you need to play just the event three times. Players can stop playing the game after the event, and wait for next year when it comes back.
