Ability to grind old event vehicles from the new events

Introduction :

Event vehicles are currently only obtainable during their respective events. Once the event ends, players who missed out have no way to earn those vehicles again except through the marketplace. This creates frustration for players who joined later or were unable to participate at the time.

My suggestion is to allow players to choose between grinding the current event vehicle or an older event vehicle from the same event type. For example, if the event requires 40,000 points to unlock a vehicle, the player could select either the new vehicle or one of the past event vehicles, and then grind the same score requirement to unlock it.

Example image how new systems look like:

How It Would Work :

  • When an event begins, players are presented with a choice menu:

    • Switch for the new event vehicle.
    • Switch for an older event vehicle from the same category (tank, plane, ship, etc.).
  • Once chosen, the player’s progress applies to that vehicle only.

  • Switching is possible, but progress does not carry over — you start fresh for the new choice.

  • Requirements (score, tasks, etc.) remain identical to the current event vehicle.

  • Vehicles are randomly chosen by gajin

  • Switch cost 500K RP / 1M Rp ( depends on the vehicles rank / rarity )

  • only two times allowed to switch first time for RP and second time will cost Golden eagles.

Why It Should Be Added :

  1. Fairness for New Players: Many players join War Thunder after certain events have ended, leaving them permanently locked out of unique vehicles. This system would give them a fair chance to earn those vehicles through effort rather than relying solely on the marketplace.
  2. Player Retention: Allowing access to past event vehicles keeps players motivated to participate in events, knowing they can work toward something they truly want, even if it’s not brand new.
  3. Marketplace Balance: While the marketplace is useful, prices for rare vehicles can become inflated. Offering an alternative grind path would reduce frustration and reliance on high-cost purchases.
  4. Consistency: The grind requirements remain the same as current events, ensuring no unfair advantage or imbalance. Players still need to commit the same time and effort.
  5. Community Satisfaction: This change would show Gaijin’s commitment to listening to its community, addressing one of the most common frustrations voiced by players.

Benefits :

  • Gives newer players a fair chance to obtain vehicles they missed.
  • Reduces reliance on the marketplace, making rare vehicles more accessible.
  • Increases player engagement by offering more meaningful rewards.
  • Gives more uses for RP

Possible Limitations :

To avoid flooding the game with rare vehicles, Gaijin could limit the number of old vehicles available per event (e.g., only one or two past vehicles offered).
ultra rare vehicles can be limited for redeemed only no coupons.

Conclusion :

This system would strike a balance between preserving the exclusivity of event vehicles and giving players a fair chance to obtain them through effort rather than relying solely on the marketplace. By allowing players to choose whether to grind for a new or past event vehicle, Gaijin would increase player satisfaction, encourage long-term engagement, and reduce frustration among newer players. The grind requirements remain unchanged, ensuring fairness and balance while expanding accessibility.

I think this is a cool idea, especially for event vehicles that were produced but were put as event vehicles that cannot be obtained normally anymore. I understand why stuff like E100s are super rare and are not possible to obtain anymore realistically for the average player, in my opinion at least. But when it comes to event vehicles that were really used, mass-produced vehicles in service with the main nations of the game, yet they’re not regulated as premium, squadron, or tech tree vehicles, but rather rare event vehicles that are not obtainable now without spending 3-digits on them, that is one of the most annoying things about the event vehicle system in all honesty. Such a system as this if it is considered, would make these historical vehicles possibly obtainable realistically for more players. This is at least what came to my mind regarding the possibilities of a system like this.

It’s a cool idea, and very easy to implement.

But it sadly just can’t compare to Operation R.E.L.I.C..

It is easier to implement by a mile tho.

I would not mind gaijin doing re-run events out side of the loot box system. Don’t think this is ideal but I do see this as inevitable as Gaijin will have to handle a new in flow of options with infantry mode coming. Some people may grind vehicles but there not going to grind a 50th sub version of the AK-47 but with a thermal scope.

Good post though

I would like this for certain vehicles like the USA greyhound and other EBRs. Vehicles that are not really anything super special and probably should be accessible for all to obtain

+1 without a doubt

+1 theres a vehicle i really want but its not on marketplace and lootbox has astronomical event levels of chance, when i started playing the event for said vehicle had already passed so i didnt even had the possibility to earn it through farming :'/

Any way to get old event vehicles would be great from me. +1

Definitely, a vehicle being event is literally the worst fate possible because if it’s any good its price will launch into space and basically no one will be able to buy it. Like, fym an improved skyraider costs 240$

I am so sad that I can’t get vehicles that were used like the AU-1 and AH-1, like they weren’t rare half-made vehicles that never saw combat or anything, why double the price of a new 1440p monitor to buy a pixel plane? I would spend 25-30 bucks even if a sale for it if it was premium, (better yet they made late prop-attackers options in the tech tree), but no way I think 99.9999% of players is spending that…

Yeah the AU-1 and A-1H are monstruously overpriced, and both vehicles should be tech tree in the first place. But money speaks I guess

Which still doesn’t make sense to me. Because that isn’t good for money, I would imagine.

Even if 100 people are willing to buy super-expensive fake planes, say 250 dollars rounded for simplicity, which I highly doubt even that many would be willing to. That is 25,000 USD in profit. Removing other factors for simplicity.

Meanwhile if they made them premium aircraft, more obtainable - say 30 bucks for high prop premiums but say they go 50% off on sale and that’s when everyone buys them… It would only take 2,000 purchases to also make 30,000 USD in profit. Which I bet way, way more people would buy that than just 2,000. I doubt 100 people who play this game spent 250 dollars to get theirs while premium versions probably could get thousands of purchases I bet, I don’t know the exact statistics of who buys what premiums though.

But I do not foresee a possibility of this actually benefiting them? It just makes the playerbase frustrated in a system that yields less profit than if it was a more accessible premium or similar. Unless there is something I don’t know and there secretly is thousands upon thousands of people spending a quarter of a grand on video game aircraft, the only way I could see this actually being worth it in any ways is if this was a dying game supported by a very few spending their entire income, rather than a game of hundreds of thousands of players per day with more reasonable financial decision making skills.

lol i live in a third world potato country and overworked myself for about 8 months in a job that had me doing the heavy lift work of two or even three people during 8 hour night shifts for roughly $250 a month then ended up getting a spine injury that left me unable to keep with the pace and they kicked me without any sort of compensation for health issues, its crazy that all that effort could only do so much inside the game due to inflation of specific items becoming rarer each day passing

i was able to buy the panzerwerfer and alkhalid at 50% discount however and tbh i had lots of fun with these and managed to get the entire chinese tech tree in a few months, wanna get the event 300mm Andryusha rocket launcher but its out of stock in market place last time i seen, even if its there in the market its probably gonna cost alot since 300mm rockets are no joke even in high tiers, i’ve seen some gameplay of it and the blast of the rockets is just awesome, maybe some day we’ll get the german wurfrahmen 40 which is just as deadly

I wonder how people can live without the Sturmtiger :P

This shii is crazy, where I’m from this wouldn’t even be legal… Hope you’ll get a better situation, a job taking all the time and space really sucks

Yeah I’ll probably buy a premium too one of these days, they seem to be quite useful and cool

I want it bad. I hope they bring it back for the upcoming 15th anniversary at least.
