General Italian Naval Forces Tech Tree Discussion (Romania and Hungary included)

its very different as Germany manufactured there main guns armor weapons optics engines ranfinders
where as a leclerc majority is indigenous

krupp produced guns and armor for them

germany also gave them submarines to aswell based on there UBOATS

In 1904, after allowing the navies of other countries to pioneer submarine developments, the Austro-Hungarian Navy ordered the Austrian Naval Technical Committee (MTK) to produce a submarine design. The January 1905 design developed by the MTK and other designs submitted by the public as part of a design competition were all rejected by the Navy as impracticable. They instead opted to order two submarines each of designs by Simon Lake, Germaniawerft, and John Philip Holland for a competitive evaluation. The two Germaniawerft submarines comprised the U-3 class.[85] The Navy authorized two boats, U-3 and U-4, from the Germaniawerft in 1906.[86]
The U-3-class was an improved version of Germaniawerft’s design for the Imperial German Navy’s first U-boat, U-1,[86] and featured a double hull with internal saddle tanks. The Germaniawerft engineers refined the design’s hull shape through extensive model trials.[87]

which is why both countries should get some as they where enemy’s against italy rather than allys at the time aswell as there are enough hungrian dread noughts to share as germany had deep ties with them at the time and it would fill some gaps in the techtree right now

very few things on hungarian dread noughts where domestic

there are total of 12 hungarian BBs they could add which can be split between both trees

I don’t think you understand how Austria-Hungary worked bro…

Austria was it’s own state and Hungary was it’s own state. The only difference is they just had another level of government to connect them.

It’s like a very large scale version of a confederation or federalism.

Lastly, name of ships doesn’t really matter, if we went based on language for subtrees then there would be a lot different

majority of parts are built via germany which is why i say both should receive them
it be similar to the french AMD from the upgraded by the germans and recaptured

Two things on this, first this isn’t exactly true as Škoda produced a lot of the armaments on ships, and was located in Austrian occupied Czech

Secondly, the whole domestic point really doesn’t make a difference as in a like any economy since the silk road there has been regular use of non-domestic supplies and materials

valid point but skoda only made the SPAA guns not the main caliber or secondary

Bro how does that change anything at all?? Plus the list you sent me has a majority of Škoda components 💀💀 How is this proving your point??

Also the Ersatz Monarch class which would have been the best had main guns produced by Škoda (these were actually made)

The main thing to consider, is what would this mean for the future of Austria in game? Will it be distributed all over the tech-trees? Or would it be a subtree for Italy as well? Probably not.

With their Pandur, Saurer APCs, and Spanish-Austrian Ulhan IFV, there isn’t much to begin with.
Certainly not enough for a subtree, so it will get distributed

I guess, 100 mm Minisini are with the same longer reloading compared to Soviet ships, aren’t they?

Compared to? 100 mm/56 B-34 obr. 1940 g.? Yes.

I mean 100 mm on Cadorna and Kerch for example, for Italian ships they are called 100 mm/47 O.T.O. and for Soviet 100 mm/50 Minizini, they are essentially the same in the same turrets, although because of different values in each nation paper sources, they have different RoF.
Maybe Cadorna is an exception this time?

Same 100 mm/47 OTO Mod. 28 as the Bartolomeo Colleoni, Bolzano, Eugenio di Savoia, Luigi di Savoia Duca degli Abruzzi, Pola, Raimondo Montecuccoli, Trento, and Zara.

90% sure thats the armament list for the Habsburg class, a ship outdated by any ship in War Thunder by a good 5-10 years (as she was designed in 1898), but I’ll elaborate anyways:

  • 24cm on Habsburg class were the last Austro-Hungarian battleship main battery guns to not be Skoda built. 24cm on the following Erzherzog class were Skoda built, 30,5cm and 35cm on Radetzky, Tegetthoff, and Ersatz Monarch classes were both Skoda built and designed.
  • All 15cm cannon in the Austro-Hungarian Navy had been Skoda built after the Monarch class.
  • The French have as much of a claim to this ship as the 47mm are all license copies of Hotchkiss 47mm QF guns

Now lets take a look at an Austro-Hungarian ship more age-appropriate for War Thunder - Radetzky-class, for example:

  • 4 (2x2) 30,5cm/45 Škoda
  • 8 (4x2) 24cm/45 Škoda
  • 20 (20x1) 10cm/50 K10 Škoda
  • 2 (2x1) 7cm/50 K10 Škoda TAG
  • 4 (4x1) 7cm/50 K16 Škoda BAG anti-aircraft gun
  • 3 underwater torpedo tubes, 45cm L5g Whitehead

Everything is Skoda designed and built - except for the Whitehead torpedoes, but Whitehead is at that point a company based in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Also none of the armor was produced by Krupp. “Krupp” is a type of steel, and using Krupp steel does not necessarily mean your armor was produced by Krupp. Austro-Hungarian ships used armor produced by Witkowitz, a domestic company.

Believe me, an argument could be easily made for placing the Austro-Hungarian navy in the German tech tree - I personally feel they do not need it and Italy would be helped a lot more by an additional tech tree line - but arguing for it on the basis of German construction is not really solid ground to stand on.

So, I’ve finally researched RN Roma and imo playing it, despite all of its issues, is way more fun than 7.3 masters of assistance. Enemies are mostly same, but once you unlock AP, you can actually get kills. Reloading is awfully long, although I’ve got an expert crew, so it isn’t a minute at least. Can’t tell anything about survivability so far, first I was killed after a short duel with Bismarck (only had SAP at the moment), another death was a one-shot from Sovetsky Soyuz.
PS bots stealing frags are as annoying as at any other BR.

I think the only argument to not put the AH navy with Italy would be if the rumored Poland/Eastern Europe tech tree comes, they would need AH ships to build up a full roster, and could somewhat justify it through Yugoslavia.

But if the Poland/Eastern Europe tech tree doesn’t end up having a navy at all, then I think Italy is the best place for those ships.

On that note, I would be interested to see what the hypothetical navy could be (although iirc, the leak probably got Romania wrong unless gajin feels like messing up more rules).

Maybe I’ll work on a mockup tech tree for that, but somebody else has probably made a better one, I’ll go look

Edit: No one has, as far as I can see on Suggestions, so I’ll mock one up. It’ll take a bit

All right, I will only post the bluewater section I have so far here as this is really a digression, but with the little research I have done so far, I think the hypothetical Poland/East Europe navy tree needs Austria-Hungary more than Italy does.

This list even goes as far as giving Soviet ships to the tree that were built in Ukraine and served in the Black Sea Fleet, which is definitely a stretch. Austria-Hungary is one of the few sources of capital ships for this tree.

Edit: I’m still working on this and making additions, it’s a fun project. But I will start a new thread rather than continue to derail this one!

Edit 2: Here we go! Hypothetical Poland/Eastern Europe Naval Tech Tree Project

Cutting Soviet ships sounds extremely weird, imo it’ll never happen. Ukraine was part of USSR, if anything their vessels can go to Soviet TT.

I agree that it’s not likely to happen, and I don’t think it’s 100% necessary for the tech tree if submarines and missile ships are added (since they can let the tech tree push to top tier without as many battleships and cruisers).

I will say that all of the USSR vessels I chose would have other equivalents of the same class that could still be added to the USSR tech tree, so it’s not like they would be missing out or “losing” gameplay to another tech tree.
