Combined Arms Enduring Confrontation

For those that have played occasionally or consistently in the Ground Simulator Battles, you have the feeling at least a few times: "Why must my multi-ton monster be stuck corner-peeking in a !#@&(=% city like in COD?!

The answer is simple: You shouldn’t. You should be able to roll across terrain and be trading fire with the enemy at distances that would leave infantry as tiny specks on the horizon, and there is a way to do so;

Enduring Confrontation Combined Arms.

Functionally this would act exactly as Air Sim EC already does, but with the added options of any vehicle being available as a spawn on the massive maps used in Air EC. Planes, Tanks, Helicopters, and naval vessels on maps with ocean access in the truest sense of large-scale combined action.

Spawns are simple to figure out:

  • Plane spawns are already tied to airfields and their sustainability,
  • Ground vehicles and helicopters can have the choice of spawning at airfields with the bot defenses and moving towards any of the objective points, or spawn at the minimally protected bomb target points for a quicker travel.
  • Naval vessels can have spawn regions either the edge of the map if the oceanic surface provides that option, while smaller bluewater vessels like destroyers and coastals can utilize ports and bay areas as staging zones, fed by the AI ground convoys.
  • Airfields would be protected by AI flak and gun crews with 3km engagement envelope from each position.
  • The highest tiers also by SAMs that exceed helicopter ATGM engagement envelope by at least 1km, EG: 8.0-9.7BR get SAMs with ~6km envelope, 10.0+BR use radar SAM sites with 12km.

Example: Port Moresby Combined EC spawnmap, not showing SAM coverage

This is my work-in-progress test mission on Spain showing potential spawns and action focus areas:

(Update for the WIP as of 6M/12D/2026Y 0020AM showing additional spawns and objective zones)

Now what about objectives for the ground vehicles to do beyond engaging other ground vehicles?
Beyond the obvious notion of hunting enemy players, there can be several tasks.

  • Permanent capture points based on the largest named cities already present on most maps, or strategically suitable locations such as the valley plateau in grid D6 and the elevated plains in grid D3 in the Morris map example.
  • time-limited missions like rescue of shot down AI aircraft crew that land inside friendly-held grids,
  • Find and Destroy a large concealed bunker system in enemy territory.

Naval vessels would be largely taking part of the global tasks, such as screening ports and destroying AI naval convoys, along with providing long-range fire support to ground vehicles and AA cover to air.

This requires at least a basic screening of Air maps to fix terrain holes and surface contact issues, but the initial building blocks are already there and presents a whole new kind of gameplay for everyone.

I still do not understand why helis aren’t allowed in the current EC mode

yea they wouldn’t be broken or anything just allow helis to spawn in SIM too

2 things

  1. Ground spawn points should be in all occupied squares
  2. Future proof with infantry would be interesting

FIY I do have a Infantry enduring confrontation idea I may post it in the WIP section to get ideas out of it but it would be much smaller. But jumping in and out of vehicles will be a must for any enduring confrontation mode with them.

If something like this happens, I would definitely start playing naval again
Anyways +1 great concept

Would think that while you’re playing ground vehicles you’d need a fast way to get around. Could be as simple as letting you j-out with full refund as opposed to a specific fast travel/redeploy system

One area would be frontal base you can go there to reload and full repair (get more tankers) But also J out with full points. We would also need some sort of AI scout system to prevent both sides from running riot in the rear.

they could add cargo planes and you should had missions to fly low to drop tanks or extract them, also the helis could do rescue missions of downed pilots

+1. Just love the idea of combined arms and big maps like Arma 3, would be nice this gamemode to go along with a infantry npc deployment feature for helicopters and APC/IFVs.

Also, its interesting in the game trailer they showed naval units against ground units, so it should be smth being considered by Gaijin by now. Just like infantery.

We’ve been doing this idea for a long time for custom battles.
If only Gaijin bothered to listen to us when it comes to World War mode. Gaijin needs to just play other games like Hell Let Loose, formally known as Post Scriptum, and now Squad 44. They can also take inspiration from how the Red Orchestra/Rising Storm map vote system functions. Just build around this.

In terms of vehicles->Squad of players operates them. But there’s a limit on how many. Depending on the period.

The issue is are any of the systems they use trade marked?

I doubt it. Red Orchestra’s way of doing its campaigns was that you voted on which territory you would attack next.
Sometimes a tank (albeit a Panzer IV or T-34 was available. But otherwise no. Many games have a similar territory-vote type of idea; it’s really no different from voting for the next map, just more in an immersive sense. Rather than 4 pictures. I doubt that Squad 44 and HLL are any different. Either.

Please allow bombers to transport/ air-drop paratroopers for airfield capture.

Most ground vehicles will have little to no issues traversing and engaging through each grid. In fact the distance will help many of them do their job instead of being funneled into few-hundred meter kill zones against entrenched enemy forces in optimum, unassailable fields of fire. Shout-out to @MOLLUSKO for the video showing ground movement and more provided in the earlier discussion thread. Sim Enduring Confrontation, Combined Arms - #48 by MOLLUSKO
There’s also a few test missions from @RideR2 on the Berlin map attached in there should one be curious.

Anyway, it makes choosing your vehicles for the situations you expect and coordinating with friendlies on a front push increasingly valuable, which just isn’t a thing in the current gameplay state.

Reconnaissance and other highly mobile light vehicles can rapidly spread across grids and identify hostile players, strategic mission targets like convoys and spawn bases, permanent capture points, and if skilled enough to get deep, Airfields.

Medium tanks are going to be the primary workhorses for ground due to their jack-of-all-trades designs. Be it weapon handling, ammo volume, mobility, armor, they’ll do the job.

Heavies are going to be the organized assault masters. Dangerous guns in most cases, heavy armor, but vulnerable to flanking strikes. Support the heavies to gain breach points on a front, or to stall an attacking force.

Tank Destroyers are always situational, but regularly devastating in effect. Combined with information provided by recce tanks and aircraft scouting, they can soften up armor columns and dug in defenses in harsh ambushes and bombardments.

We don’t really need to define SPAA, their namesake says it all. Just now, they are more than a backup or spare target, they are required to protect an assault from being demolished from above.

Aircraft don’t really need a change in this, since they also have to travel, identify, engage, and possibly neutralize enemy elements.

If anything Naval vessels will have the least effect other than on maps like Denmark and Britain, where not only is there the space to do fleet on fleet attacks, but ports are now critical to getting friendly ground units into hostile territory.

i have traveled a few grids at 50kmh in some up gunned t55, and no, it does not take one hour, it takes you a few minutes, and with any wheeled vehicle you’ll be anywhere before you realize

when gaijin will allow us to spawn infantry with the CDK that will be certain, we all expect gaijin to add player and vehicle interaction so yeah, but i think it would most likely be done with helis if you dont mind

Actually, you can already respawn at captured zones

That’s pretty good, maybe im a bit blind of the scale.
Nevertheless thinking about quickly and conveniently moving around is gonna be a good contingency to present even if not strictly required.
