Would naval ships being added to GRB on some maps be too much?

Just a thought I wanted to ask about, but would naval ships off the shores of some ground battle maps be a good addition? Or would the cruise missiles and such they would spew out be too much?

Just thought it might make it interesting to give SPAA opportunities to shoot down cruise missiles or for CAS to go for naval targets instead.

I dont think modern warships can directly pinpoint targets and need to be fed data (in this case by drones or other players) so it wouldnt be entirely like CAS where they just mow down a battlefield. But naval ships can duel purpose as battlefield support and an SPAA role.

Would this be something for Gaijin to consider or would it require an entirely new game mode?

In regular ground rb i think it’d be too much

But having a larger combined arms mod with ships, tanks and planes could be nice

Remove CAS from ground battles first. Tired of entertaining them, like what do I get in return? nothing.

This might be of interest to you then, since I’ve thought the same but in far larger map areas so you’re not just dumping rounds into a barrel of fish:

Imagine spawning ships that cost 500 SP with which you could just constantly spam the spawn area of tanks. Would be fun, but not for tank players.

Obviusly adding ships like bismark its overkill, ground units cant deal with that.

With coastal ships its more than enough. Also finally a pourpose for them

Yamato vs Relict ERA:

Hit

but this would be fun:

Well, considering how much the GF community complains about CAS while denying certain SPAAG’s from having HE-VT ammunition, I relish the thought of using the YMS-1 Class Minesweeper at 1.7 to swat aircraft heh heh heh.

I would love ships in GF but you would need to limit what vessels are used, they would also likely need some separate BR’s even for mid WWII vessels, let along early cold war (1946-1960).

Ships would need direct fire sights from armament as trying to accurately hit a small tank while aiming from the very tip of your mast would be nearly impossible.

At least if I could bring them, I could then show ground the power of a belt fed ZSU-57-2 in the form of the AK-725 mount, also the power of heavier SAM’s like a moving 9M33 or RIM-24A or S-125.

Counterfire without fire director change would be easy for ground as they may use odd angles, can call arty closer (if close in on the shore or in a river), howitzers, MLRS, tanks equipped with torpedoes would have more purpose. If certain ships are limited hitting vital parts would be easy for tanks be it magazine detonations or just killing all crew.

Hmm, definitely wish some of the original plans were still a thing, as riverine gunboats would also be fun as seen by a Project 1124 on Mosdok.

Last thing ground rb needs is a dozen 155mm HE rounds hitting their spawn every 10 seconds.

You realise a sturmtiger can survive 46cm AP in warthunder, right?

It shouldn’t but it can.

Edit

15.5cm he would do basically nothing since the splash damage is non existent.

Same for large caliber HE like the 46cm HE which should instantly erase most tanks it direct impacts.

But doesn’t.

Sure, it would need to hit. But that is still a near constant arty barrage on your spawn that you will have to pray for rng to let you get out of.

Luckily, rangefinders require updating every several seconds. Just depends on the engagement range.

If it’s 9km+, you’re basically untouchable in anything that isn’t a tutel (T28/T95) or a Maus.

Now if it’s something dumb where it’s like sub 5km, then yeah, it’s going to genuinely suck.

Honestly, naval support shouldn’t be an option imo just because of the fact ground would have literally no way to kill a ship larger than coastal or some destroyers.

Why would they need to update the range? Aim at the spawn and spam your guns. Let rng do the work for you as tanks try to leave. Or spam a contested cap.

Yeah, plus the aa would not allow planes to take them out either.
