Tornado IDS WTD61

Are you legit trolling?

Uh…

ASSTA1 gets a way better Tpod and better GBUs (it gets GNSS bombs, which are actually quite good in Airmodes) than either the GR1 or IDS (1995). The weakest of the 3 by far is the IDS (1995) if guided weapons matter so much.

GR1 does get PGMs, but they are a waste of time in Airmodes imo. Too heavy to be worth running.

Yes the MFG, WTD61 and IDS (italy) lack guided weapons, but they are 9.7 in GRB, and so naturally lack those weapons. But in ARB and most of the time in ASB, they arent of any use. Might be more relevant to NE, but we’ll have to wait and see.

WTD61 is getting AS-34s Anti-Ship missiles this coming major update, so it will have a guided weapon to use in NE though. With the ASSTA1 and MFG getting the AS-34 II iirc.

GR4 and SLE are basically identical in performance currently, though the SLE gets a way easier stock grind. I dont know why you keep mentioning hte Pantsir in the context of ARB/ASB/NE though, and in GRB, the GR4 is just as screwed fighting one of those.

The SLE also gets ARM.

The GR1 only gets AS.37s which are very weak ARM for the BR and not the ARMs it actually used which was ALARM. ASSTA1 should get AGM-88A and move to 11.7 in GRB though, its dumb thats been denied.

By your own logic, the ASSTA1 is the best 11.3 Tornado IDS in-game right now.

Oh speaking of NE, I really would like to see how it’d fare, but alas the game doesn’t let you in at 11.3 as it’s 11.0 max. I’d also assume in NE the range would be 11.3-14.0, which means ARHs… 🤔🤔🤔
…but that’s just a thought.

We had different brackets before the current one, which was 11.3-12.3, which naturally screwed the 11.3 Tonkas (all of them). But we’ll have to see what it looks like on live.

They have given 0 information regarding to how it will work in that regard.

Im hoping for an ASB style, rolling brackets, but I fear that its just gunna be random MM like we have in ARB and so at the mercy of uptiers

Im doubting we’ll see a brakcet of 2.7. Most likely 1.0 in most cases, maybe 1.3 for the very top. Much in the same we have had for ASB for a while.

Yea usually it goes 9.3-11.0 so that’s why I say that.

Its not.

The latest test events were: 8.7 to 9.7 and then a second bracket of 10.0 to 11.0 iirc.

At least playing 9.3 like the Buc S2 I didnt see anything higher than 9.7

Oh, yeah right I got confused between you saying “brackets” and the BR you’re allowed at.

Air Sim gets rolling brackets

Every 48 hours, the MM changes to be the next row.

Alright just looked at the Sky Odyssey patch notes. Nothing about decompression, nothing about adjusting BRs, but “hey look all Tornados now get anti-ship missiles”
…you mean the weapon that’s literally useless and no one carries? Is there even a point in having sea radar and missiles?

Its called Nuke Thunder and SB

Neither have ships on 90% of the maps.

Me when I lie

I’ve just played about 20 matches, including about an hour in SB. Only three of those maps even had water. Only one had ships. You tell me. And, anti-ship missiles are broken anyway, they do damage half the time and can phase through ships so stop defending the billion dollar company.

BR’s are never handled in major patches, they always get adjusted separately.

Hello.

I’d like to see one of the following weapons added:

  • guided bombs
  • AGM
  • ARM

The reason is that, in Nuclear Escalation Mode, it’s far too difficult to attack ground targets using only unguided bombs.

It is possible to attack aircraft carriers. However, the anti-ship missiles use an algorithm that transitions them into low-altitude horizontal flight, making them easy targets for the ships’ anti-aircraft artillery. The aircraft can only be deployed as part of a formation.
While this premium vehicle was previously considered one of the most useless in the game, the ineffectiveness of its anti-ship missiles renders it essentially a worthless hunk of metal.

They won’t because… simply put, they require photo evidence of the weapon being used… and even that’s not a guarantee, considering that even the IDS WTD61 version used AGM-88 HARMs and was a testing platform for pretty much all guided munitions of the Tornado platform, including Mavericks or guided bombs. Yet here we are in a game where the IDS WTD61 with only regular bombs, while everyone else at that BR has guided munitions, including the guided bomb Yak-130. Dunno if it got its BR changed though in the most recent update.

Stats tend to show more than what the vehicle can do…

Im a half decent player, have a solid 2 kd in the BMD-4M, ~1000 deaths to 2500 kills

Yet, this says more about the vehicle and the tier than the player

For one, this thread:

The WTD 61 is tasked with “conducting ground and flight tests of equipment developed by the defense industry on behalf of the Bundeswehr.” This includes the “qualification and technical evaluation of all newly developed flying systems” and modifications to aircraft already in service.
WTD 61 is the designated agency for integrating and evaluating all new weaponry on the Tornado, directly supporting the claim that it served as a testing platform for guided munitions.

Aviation photography databases contain multiple photos of WTD 61 Tornados (e.g., serial number 98+79) carrying and returning from test flights with AGM-88 HARM missiles. A Russian aviation publication also notes that an ECR Tornado was delivered to the WTD 61 test center in 1990, the same year the AGM-88 HARM was integrated.

A 2002 press release from EADS (now Airbus) states that the free flight test campaign for the Taurus KEPD 350 standoff guided missile was led by WTD 61 with the support of the German Air Force. The missile was released from a Tornado carrier aircraft during the test.

A 2008 defense news report confirms that Diehl’s GPS/INS-guided glide missile HOPE was dropped from a Tornado operated by WTD 61 in Manching to demonstrate its operational performance.

A defense update from 2009 reports that EADS Defence & Security and WTD 61 performed flight tests of the Laser JDAM weapon (a guided bomb) on the Tornado, as part of the ASSTA (Avionics Software System Tornado Ada) improvement program.

While a specific, declassified test report for the Maverick is harder to find, the WTD 61’s official mandate to test “all subsystems including armament” on the Tornado, combined with its documented history of testing a wide array of guided weapons (HARM, Taurus, HOPE, Laser JDAM), establishes a clear pattern of evaluating precision-guided munitions for the platform. The Maverick was a standard NATO weapon, and its evaluation by the primary test center is historically consistent.

I n-game representation of the WTD 61 Tornado as a platform limited to unguided bombs contradicts its documented historical role. The evidence shows that WTD 61 was not just an operational unit but the primary agency responsible for the qualification and integration of advanced guided weaponry on the Tornado fleet. Therefore, providing it with guided munitions in-game is historically accurate, as its real-world counterpart was specifically tasked with testing them.

If you don’t believe me, search for specific German parliamentary reports (Bundestagsdrucksachen) or defense committee documents related to the “ASSTA” (Avionics Software System Tornado Ada) upgrade programs, as these often detail the specific weapons and systems certified for the Tornado fleet.
