Quick question. Do YOU have fun in War Thunder?

i only have fun if i do moderately well enough and win at the same time otherwise whats the point. im lossing a decent bonus to RP & SL if not winning.

also how can you have fun when majority of people playing the game cant even use more than 2 braincells to spread out and flank. ive lost 13 games today out of 17 played. and ive had SOOOO many single cap layouts for matches. everyone just piledrives down like bee’s surrounding a queen. it baffles me the people that play this game cant think to utilize the other 70% of the map!

if someone can please tell me how you can have fun seeing this. please let me know cause i loose sanity playing this game every day!

poor guy

Top tier is kinda suffering right now in GRB. It’s not fun for CAS, it’s certainly not fun for ground, both experience crazy imbalances.

That’s one major issue. However, it can be massively reduced by going to lower BRs. The biggest problem I see overall is that maps are increasingly terrible. I’ve been playing since March 2017, the update after the Japanese ground tree was introduced.

In my opinion, MOST ground forces maps added after that point are unbelievably frustrating, either from the start, or they’ve been modified to satisfy those with low skill. There have also been great changes to most maps, by eliminating spawn-to-spawn fights at the very beginning of the match for instance.

But maps overall are super flawed. They’re the biggest challenge facing War Thunder Ground Forces and it’s not even close.

Some that I find especially egregious:
Sweden (I’ve been to Stockholm and Sweden in general, and MAN they did Sweden dirty with this boring, urban, CoD style, ugly map. the only good thing you can say about it is that it limits CAS, but it equally limits SPAA)

American Desert (not as bad as Sweden, playable. but I just don’t like it for any playstyle.)

Alaska/Ground Zero (not as bad as American Desert, but has some similar flaws. I’m not angry when I get these maps)

Aral Sea (The whole map has extremely awkward verticality and cover for all playstyles)

Campania (awkward cover, significantly urban, but not as bad as most of the other maps I’m listing)

Kursk (too long range for lower BRs, and too awkward and coverless for high BRs)

Middle East (lots of big stupid rocks)

Red Desert (really awkward amounts of cover and verticality. Seems like it’d have long ranges, but usually doesn’t. A good map is hiding within this, but it needs changes. Hard for me to describe what’s so frustrating about it)

Vietnam (lots of big awkward stupid rocks, trees that are present at a very strange medium level of density that makes it harder to spot enemies without actually completely preventing long range shots, preventing you from ever getting a good map strategy)

I don’t mind playing the following maps:
38th Parallel
Abandoned Factory (legendary map)
Abandoned Town
Advance to the Rhine (legendary map)
Ash River (legendary map)
Berlin (legendary map)
Breslau
Carpathians
Eastern Europe
European Province
Finland
Frozen Pass
Fulda Gap
Japan
Karelia
Kuban
Maginot Line
Normandy/Fields of
Poland/Fields of
Stalingrad
Tunisia/Sands of
Volokolamsk/Surroundings of

While I don’t enjoy all tiers or aspects of Warthunder I still enjoy the game in the tier and modes I play. Which is pretty much only top tier.

Why would anyone play a game they don’t find fun…

I’m completely F2P, I’m fine with the long grind because I play the game for fun, but there is stuff that pisses me off which isn’t related to the predatory monetization of this game (with the exception of P2W content, not necessarily P2P). Some are:

  • Horrible map design
  • P2W elements (crew skills, bushes, undertiered event exclusive vehicles like KV-1E) and I don’t buy the excuse of “BuT yOu CaN eArN tHeM!!”, yeah I’m not going to spend years grinding for something just so the playing field is equal.
  • Bad balancing and BR compression
  • Broken game mechanics (ghost shells, volumetric, map objects eating shells)
  • Being forced to grind WW2 to get to modern vehicles
  • Bad graphics (seriously, if not for DLAA and upscaling methods like SSAA this game looks like dogshit. you are literally at a disadvantage if you play on anything less than 1440p)

In War Thunders current state I would say I have fun however its only with certain lineups.

My Favorite Lineups:
7.7 Britain - This has to be my favorite all time lineup. Uptiers are rough but still can put in some work.
9.3 Germany - Got my first ever nuke with this and just has a bit of everything.
11.7 or 12.0 Britain - Yes, I enjoy the Challengers. Don’t ask why.
8.3 Britain - Falcon and ZA-35 with some decent enough backup vehicles. Need I say more?

The game does still have its issues but it the same with every game. War Thunder is just kind of a game I can get on and do stupid stuff and unlike other games I don’t get flamed for having fun and not doing well if my stupid push does not work.

I do have one big issue with the game right now and thats the grind. I understand why we have a progression system, its so players don’t get bored but there needs to be balance of progression and freedom. At this point in time I have the top ground vehicle in 2 trees and minimum 6.3 in 4 others. I just feel like after putting hundreds and hundreds of hours in I should have more free reign to do what I want. There have been times I have wanted to play a vehicle with a buddy but unfortunately because I have not put enough time into that certain tree I am screwed. This is also coming from someone with the disposable income and is willing to spend money on the game.

I genuinely feel bad for people who have grinded more than me and those who have finished Tech Tree’s whilst free to play.

A part from all that there some some smaller issues like some balancing issues, map issues and server issues. Like its annoying always being on 120 ping because of SA servers so I am always at a disadvantage but its something I put up with. Its also annoying being sniped leaving spawn from across the map or facing things much much better than what I am in but yet again, I put up with it.

Overall even though there are a fair few negatives I pointed out, I still feel like I have enough fun to outweigh those issues and it is just something I have learnt to look past. In the end of the day every game has issues and you just have to suck it up some times. At least we still have an active development team that puts a ton of time trying to make the game better.

oh ho im interested to know if the bug mods answer that one

I’ll tell you when I submit it. My previous reports have been closed within 2 hours before with a not very good explanation of why.

When you stop thinking of it as a game and start thinking of it as an actual combat scenario, the frustration turns into immersion

“Oh shit, all of the new recruits that went to capture the city got ambushed”
“Crap, the rookie anti-air gunners can’t hit for shit, gotta tread carefully to avoid being bombed”
“Oh God, the left flank got pushed back, and I’m all alone with this Tiger 1, we better do our best to hold them back so our left flank can regather and push”

BR doesn’t matter. Match quality is entirely dependent on whether the team can understand how to play or not. Sometimes you have a close battle with everyone working to win, other times you have a wall of cattle that facechecks certain death and leaves after donating enough SP to spawn half the United States Air Force on the few teammates’ they’ve left for dead.

tbh i think GRB players are much worse then ARB ones mostly because driving a tank is easier than flying a plane ;)

Where I have fun is in the test drive. I hope Gaijin makes it possible to use all the vehicles in the test drive without having to own them, so I wouldn’t need to play a single game.

Well in ARB if a bad player dies, at least they ate up a missile and some of the opponent’s energy advantage or flares or something. If a bad player dies in GRB, they GIVE the opponent spawn points to continue the fight with more vehicles. Bad players in GRB magnify the enemy advantage the more they throw the match.

fun, for 90% of players looks like to ruin teammates’ game, bully them, to read the mission objectives not ,and grinding at team’s expensens telling to you “cry harder” or " i report you".is it fun?

The sum of all percentages is greater than 100%.

it’s the same pool. dont be so funny. it isnt health

oooh yeah good point. My god GRB really is the shittiest gamemode this game has to offer isnt it?

I have fun with planes between 1.0 and 5.0. I don’t like jets. And most of the Problems are the Gamers BEHIND the Monitor.

have you guys tried using the buccaneer S.2B in GRB with the martels? funniest thing i’ve ever done and its really fun if u miss and just to see things die anyway
