Mitsubishi F-2

Yea, it’s more likely we’ll get an F-15J MSIP along with US and their F-15C MSIP. However, it is possible that we get the F-2 anyway.

Realistically it’ll be something we see after the next update and but I’d expect no later than December.

The F-2 mentioned in the leak was later confirmed by the leaker to be the F-20 and was just a mistake :(

Still hope we get the F-2 soon

AESA have too much, too early for it. I don’t believe it will come sooner then end of the year and even that in good case scenario

They will probably just slap a place holder on it but still it would be a bit much currently

I don’t think AESA will be as strong as you think. It will be "nerfed’ and not at full power just like every new system in this game. It will get refined and reworked over many updates, with it’s final iteration being cemented after every nation has an AESA plane and it’s the norm. We have seen Gaijin’s pattern for years on how they implement this kind of stuff, so it should be no surprise.

I think December is a good guess for the F-2 and potentially other 4.5 gens because it’s the biggest update that releases famous vehicles to bring in all the holiday spending. Granted, it’s also possible for the F-2 to show up anytime after the ARH update as after the F-15J MSIP, the XF-2A/F-2 early is the next logical step. I highly doubt they’d skip to the F-2 late with AAM-4s when they finally decide to add the F-2.

Oh that’s a good catch.

Regarding AESA, I am not expecting anything more than a very fast refreshing multi bar TWS with mutli target track (visually as well, just like when we got F-14A with TWS) and a very minor notch area.

Yea, that’s my expectation as well. It’s fairly easy for them to model and makes it different from regular radar to be something unique, but not overpowered or creating any imbalance.

We won’t get the fancy stuff like terrain mapping, detecting ground targets, launching SARHs at multiple targets, etc. At least not at launch. Once the game is firmly reaching 5th gen, we might see those stuff added retroactively to all AESA at once.

It’s just quite a pickle since the next update is ARH one which means there’s a lot of options, especially with Thai sub-tree. Thai F-16A, Thai Gripen C, F-2, F-15J MSIP. We’d basically have to get something every update, which seems unlikely (which is also why I hope the actual sub-tree comes next year so we can get all our Japanese stuff out first).

like most things they’ll just BS it a bit, and that’s fine, I think the freak outs about AESA are a bit silly as it’s advantages won’t really matter at most of the ranges in game and gajin won’t represnet them anyway

I just don’t understand how can it be better then previous system in nerfed state because it has drawbacks such as less FOV and iirc most of early AESA wasn’t put on rotating mechanism like on ETF. I am afraid that in nerfed state it will be worse then current PD radars which is really stupid.
Imagine going from F-15C with TWS, big FOV and 8 ARH to F-2 with just faster refresh, only 45degrees FOV and with only sparrows you can’t even shoot multiple at the same time.

AESA doesn’t need a rotating mechanism? the whole point is you can direct the entire beam. The only AESA I know of that can tilt is the Eurofighter’s but that’s specifically to point down for ground scanning

The biggest advantage would be TWS that’s more akin to when the F-14A was initially released, which would be like this.

This would give you unparalleled situational awareness, assuming they model it this way (which I think they should).

On top of the HUD stuff, by fast sweeping, it’s more instant sweeping, which means you’ll always see what’s inside the FoV of the radar pretty much instantly and on screen. That’s powerful but also not overpowered or anything.

Yea with such TWS it will be really cool to see all the targets that can shoot you from 30km and turn back while you can’t do shit because you have no AAM-4 and I don’t remember anything about F-2 being capable of using aim120

it might be frankenstein-ed in just for the sake of balance until AIM-120C/D are in the game. or we might have the gripen situation where it wont be able to and you’re stuck with IRs until they bring AAM-4s in.

Either way, I’d be excited to see the F-2 since it’ll be a proper “light” and multipurpose airframe for the Japanese tree.

Right the ARHs that you easily avoid by just skimming the ground, notching + chaff? Nobody is reliably getting 15 km+ (maybe even less) kills against anyone that is paying attention.

This kind of AESA would be a great QoL and improve upon existing performance without upsetting the balance. Do you really think they’d ever add the F-2 or any of the modern vehicles in this game if it could perform to IRL specs?

Like Shiro mentioned, it’s for the sake of balance and some of us are strongly willing to take a nerfed F-2 if it means we get the F-2 now than in some far off future. Plus, even a nerfed F-2 would be competitive now and has the ability to be unnerfed later to remain competitive (not to mention multiple variants).

Right now we could have had an XF-2A since last June with APG-68, 4x 9Ls (upgraded to AAM-3 with last update), and 4x 7Ms. It would have been our “F-16C” in that it’s a supreme dogfighter with limited CAS capability.

For whatever reason Gaijin is dragging their feet, but they know that the F-2 is popular and is constantly requested, so it’ll show up as soon as they can throw it in to rake in the money. A good bet is December at the latest to farm our GE but really any update could have the XF-2A or the F-2 early.

The only worrying thing about taking a frankenstein plane is the unwillingness to fix anything as we can see with the Type 10. luckily, radars and general flight characteristic are pretty well documented and once AESA comes to other nations, itll be fixed for sure. i hope

And the constantly update radar things all the time and other nations use it too so we’ll have their support eventually.

Though with this post, it seems like they already kind of modeling AESA (or is it PESA?). It’s only a matter of time.

Do we have a source for this?
