Mitsubishi F-2

And the constantly update radar things all the time and other nations use it too so we’ll have their support eventually.

Though with this post, it seems like they already kind of modeling AESA (or is it PESA?). It’s only a matter of time.

Do we have a source for this?

Trying to find more about this.

AESA radar can be found on the ASRAD SPAA in game right now.

this is an explanation of John Wick’s current understanding of how it is implemented in-game:

Now the question is, was it always like this and the tac view revealed it, or was this recently changed. I’d think we won’t know the answer to that as it’s not like there’s tests or datamines to point at it.

Still it is good news because it means AESA is ready and it’s just a matter of when Gaijin wants to add these planes. I think next update is probably F-15J MSIP or some Thai F-16A/Gripen, but the September one onwards, any update could bring the F-2.

Checking Gszabi’s repo it was already like this 4 years ago in 2.2.0.11 . So it was like this from at least at that time.

@Smin1080p Do you know anything about multirole F-2 being planned as an actual multirole with some guided anti-ground munitions?
Or it will be more of an air superiority jet with just basic anti-ground stuff?
I am really concerned about this question.

I know it’s too early for it but it is the jet for JP players like F-15 for US, I think it’s reasonable to assume devs might already have some kind view on it long before it’s actually implemented.
What should we expect?

Cant wait for the next patch to appear and have Japan get nothing or like a rubbish boat every other update… anyhow

With the addition of Fox 3 and the rather…advanced radar on all F-2s is it possible for its addition to the game in the coming months or would it be a rather too advanced addition that either needs to be gimped or needs to wait for compatible jets to be added?

The earlier variants only used the AIM-7M as their radar option and that missile has no datalink. This option can be added pretty much any update.

The later F-2 variant with AAM-4 would be a bit too strong unless Gaijin nerfs AESA. While the AAM-4s seeker isn’t AESA, it still has datalink and could completely rely on aircraft for guidance (albeit maybe with some time delay/lag because of distance?). This is the real fear with AESA because if you can’t notch it, then you’re only option is being on the deck to avoid any teams fielding F-2s.

Granted it wouldn’t be a huge deal as people have options to fire back with their own ARHs up at F-2s and then go back to the deck, but it would be at a disadvantage. The game has also cycled through meta between AIM-54 oppression and now R-27ER, etc.

Given the focus of next update being ARH for all, the realistic option is F-15J MSIP for Japan, or a Thai F-16A/Gripen C. I’m hoping if it’s the Thai option it’s the Gripen C as that’s a very competitive airframe right now and would be unique to Japan as they already have the F-16A with the AJ. Ideally though they give us the F-15J MSIP since Japan actually used it and with the proper pilot model/no turkey feathers/etc.

F-2 early would be an option but very unlikely as they would have to really twist some realities to make it happen, but it is Gaijin so who knows. However, F-2 by December is very likely possible, maybe on one of the updates, either in September or October/November.

What IR option would the early variant have as well?

Also, if F-2 with AIM-7M doesn’t come this patch, would you then say it is likely they’re saving F-2 for later with AAM-4*?

AIM-9L and AAM-3

As @WreckingAres283 mentioned, AIM-9L and AAM-3, though I wouldn’t be surprised if they added the AIM-9M to pad out the grind like they did on the F-15J.

It’s hard to say. I think they might treat the F-2 as a novelty to add in between when nothing big is going for other major nations. Seeing as how they split the F-15J into early and presumably late, I’d expect them to want to do the same to the F-2. There’s also the prototype variant. I also feel like they’d want to add the F-2 before Eurofighter Typhoon and Rafale as they’d probably be a step above the F-2 in terms of flight performance and armaments.

Though if they do skip to the late F-2, it also means they can add it with L-JDAMs and targetting pod so there’d be a good CAS option for Japan as well. Still, the AESA radar + ARH is a deadly combo which I don’t know how Gaijin will handle. AFAIK, even DCS doesn’t have AESA modeled?

There would realistically be 0 noticeable delay. For there to even be a 10ms delay between information from the plane and the missile there would need to be a 3,000 KM gap. At a more realistic distance of ~200km if would only be 0.5ms :P

I do agree that if AAM4 where to be implemented it would most likely be way to powerful. It would make more sense to split it up into late / early versions with different loadouts and at different BRs when the game is ready for them.

They are closer than people think though. The Pantsir uses an AESA, and it can be seen in the sensor view how that works. The next major air additions after the June patch will likely be the F-2 and F-15C with AESAs and the Rafale and MiG-31 with PESAs, either in the fall or winter
