Your 3 Favorite Planes, with Explanation on 1

Yeah, no np!

I liked the way you used, “my beloved”. Remember the movie, Million Dollar Baby, produced by Clint Eastwood, and her fighter he named “My Beloved: …Mochule” in Irish, Caelisc,…whatever, and then her parents turned out to be a pieceof .
My first beloved plane was the Mig23 ML,…I remember the first time I took it out, but it was a different game then,…I said on chat, “This is my first uptier battle, and they were fcking with me, …but I survived and got a airkill.”
And so everytime I fly that Mig23 ML I always know its a great Prem, and its a killer.
Thank you so much for your parcipation in this topic mate, Im really interested in my mates, Im a college catcher and pitcher in college baseball and did well in MLB 3 no hitters and 8 1 hiters so far, I just cant wn a a damn world seriers LOL . Thank you

if u want to do CAS but dont have the tanks go to customs (no rewards but may be fun)

OS2U-1
SBD-3
AV-8A while its a premium its really fun to play especially with a strike loadout of 2 aim-9g and 2 zuni pods + a CM pod

I do not have a great overview of all the planes that exist in the game since I have only played two nations so far. But from testflying, browsing the War Thunder Wiki and reading about the history of certain planes I would say:

3: Northrop F-5 Freedom Fighter/Tiger II. I like all variants, but the Thai F-5E FCU and F-5T SCU are my favourite. Also one of the most beautiful jets ever.

2: Kawanishi N1K-J Shiden (Kai) (all variants). From my experience this fighter seems extremely balanced having both the usual Japanese turn fighting capabilities and great firepower (up to 900 rounds in four Type 99 Model 2 20-mm autocannons). From a historical perspective I find their role in the Battle of Okinawa quite fascinating.

1: Lavochkin La-9/11 Fritz. Never played it and I heard it’s not the best at its BR. But nobody will ever be able change my opinion that it’s the most beautiful plane ever built. Especially the Chinese La-11 looks gorgeous.

0: Bell OH-58D Kiowa Warrior. Due to the title of this discussion it does not belong on the list. But like every plane this thing flies at least. And I like it more than any plane in the game.

Your view is very important…For some reason if I dont like the way a plane looks, I cant fly it LOL, no matter how good it may be.
I was a very good baseball pitcher, but I had to wipe the dirt off my black cleats, 7 no hitters, 21 one hitters.
Thank you, all you mates who contribute to this topic give me good ideas on planes to fly.
You figure, we have access to more planes than Tom Cruise, we can fly anything we want to fly, LOL he only has a P51 LOL

Simply put, the F5’s are fun to fly for me, while being competitive at their BR’s. The last stop before constant ARH and SARH spam, and where you can still find some decent gunfights, and I just enjoy flying them almost every time. They aren’t the best, but they get the job done.

Oh I just realised it’s you who opened this discussion. I was a bit confused at first because you changed your nickname from Exorcist XD.

A beast of an engine aswell. This thing gives Yaks and Spitfires a run for their money.

Ngl, I’d play alot more F-5 if they weren’t put in BVR size maps. imo, ~9.3 is where Warthunder’s dogfights peak.

F-14D - Cuz it’s the best
SU-35
F-22

what do you know that we dont???

  1. Tornado Gr.4
  2. English Electric Lightning F.6
  3. Ja37C

Tornado is simply the best looking plane in the world
The lightning i can play “real gone” to and use the fabulous red tops
Viggen because its a very strange plane that lead it to be world beating in some areas but behind in others, I also refer to the irl configuration of the Ja37C as the version we have in game is called C despite not being it (missing a handful of things)

The rules don’t say it’s limited to ingame lol

flankers, fulcrums and teen series look better. F-106 and F-4 too, as well as the Rafale and F-22.

in that case all good picks imo.

not counting ingame stuff would be

  1. F-15C Golden Eagle
  2. F-15EX
  3. peak F-15E

Somehow I missed this comment :-) Thx!

Regarding B7A2s

Catching the P-51 was determined on choosing the right dive angle - so that he is in gun range whilst you still have some excess speed; the plane holds it’s speed rather well even on the deck.

Hardy - in the literal sense:

Not really, even slight damages affect your turn performance and top speed, so even i would fly with mouse aim i would avoid any head-ons.

But:

The real exception is that the plane has an “eternal fire” bug - so engine hits, killing and setting the engine on fire are no problem. The plane burns for ages and with enough alt you can glide back to base, land & repair.

In addition you can put wing tank fires out with the old A6M trick: Putting the burning wing upwards - i estimate that i am able to put 75-80% of the fires out.

I like the B7A2 because it gives you options to do what ever you want.

A hell of guys use it as a pure killer plane, dropping their payload after spawn and fly it as a bomber killer / fighter. You can play BnZ / energy, turn fight and you are able to get out of totally hopeless situations.

The last plane i flew with these options was the pre-nerfed Re 2005 at BR 6.0 - 4 four or 5 years ago. Similar to that plane the only way to fight and win vs B7A2s is a massive speed advantage.

But even if you are not entirely kill driven:

Options like to create your own challenges are essential as prop Air RB is rather repetitive. Some examples for challenging yourself:

  • Keeping a friendly (but rather helpless like Sterlings or Yer-2s) bomber alive, and let them drop first.

  • Keep your bomb load as long as possible and carpet bomb the enemy forward airfield from 7 km when half of the enemy team is repairing & rearming there. 10 x 60 kg dropped with precision (and slow - air brake) gave me a hell of double kills over the years - and nobody expects to get bombed there 😎

  • Dragging as many enemy interceptors out of the center and below your team.

  • Let enemy bombers drop instead of shooting them down before they can drop

  • Or don’t even attack them if you play 1 vs 1 in a ticket lead.

So live and let live.

The performance increase to the TT version is not as big as it is often described - if you have it: Give it a try!

That is technically seen true, but imho either a sign of flying a severely undertiered plane or the ability to make a rather mediocre plane work vs inexperienced enemies in way better planes.

If you fly a good turning aircraft your enemies get faster at higher BRs - but also less nimble. So i would claim that my combat performance in all 3 of my favorite aircraft gets way better in a full uptier.

But if i see the B7A2:

Full downtiers to 2.7 are a real pain if your team collapses. So even if you outclimb most of the 2.7 / 3.0 / 3.3 fighters - playing 1 vs 4 against a team of I-16s, P-39s, P-36s, Bf 109 Es or even the cannon Tchaikas is a nightmare if they stick together; it takes ages to push them low and those guys outturn you completely - so the only way is either to lure them high and try to energy trap them or to wait until they separate, otherwise you have the same effect when you catch 3 or 4 A6Ms low in a P-47: If they don’t hold still for a few seconds it is quite frustrating.

Well, it is a personal preference.

For me, I think Tornado F.3 is hotter than F-14 Tomcat or MiG-23 Flogger.
But I understand and respect guys who think their plane is hotter than ours. XD

Variable wings rules!

Sleeping on the F-111 lol

See, you are wrong

reasoning is because uhhh i said so

America should have a built a variable sweep wing P-51.
