Why do the british phantoms just suck?

why are you lying? because you are wrong

Proof? Because nothing i said was a lie lmao

well im currently on warthunder… and the F4J carries a grand total of 6 sparrows you liar.

Was that changed? when I was grinding TT US, the F-4J could only hold 4.

It is one of those things where you can carry 6 but, you cannot bring any aim9s.

So most people will just do the 4 aim7s and 4 aim9s rather than 6 aim7s.

Why cant you carry 6 + 4? they on different plyons no?

I am 100% sure why you cant carry it like that. Two options

A: certain why wiring is set up
B: gaijin moment

Ok now that surprises me. Australia used the F-4E Phantom. The F-4C/D/E had different wing pylons to the naval phantoms, and couldn’t carry Sparrows on those pylons.

It looks like you’ve found an F-4E with navy style wing pylons. That’s not something I’ve seen before.

I’m pretty sure the wings of the AIM-7 & AIM 9 would interfere with each other if you tried to carry both. In the photo posted by @S3b5 it looks like they only managed to fit both by removing the rear wings from the AIM-9.

Which is really weird, because the Aussie Phantoms were just USAF Phantoms they borrowed for a few years and then gave back.
As well as that, they also had (looks like) a single Sidewinder, in addition to the Sparrow (it’s in the third picture, barely visible under one of the guy’s arms). Navy pylons can’t do that to my knowledge.

Wait I didn’t even notice that, huh

Frankly the FG.1 and FGR.2 are fine aircraft. Ditch the gunpod and play them like they were intended to be flown, as interceptors. The reduced weight there coupled with the better engines lets you perform exceptionally and makes for pulling into headons with the Skyflashes very easy. They have better radars than anything else they face, by miles.

The only change they really need is either the FG.1 or FGR.2 should get the AIM-9Ls they carried historically and to actually set them apart. Doing this creates no BR holes anyway.

It is very strange indeed. The pylons have straight leading edges, so are clearly Navy LAU-17 pylons, rather than the Air Force style pylon.

Never seen those on an F-4E before.

Going by this website
https://www.angelfire.com/extreme/raafphantoms/RAAFF4E.htm
It looks to have been a trial on one specific Phantom, unless there were other LAU-17s on the other ones that I just missed. That being said, I don’t think they would have been wired for Sparrows on the wing pylons (given that they normally used the MAU-12) since it was just a test, and likely a dummy missile.

At the same time, there’s also this image on a different website
https://www.vintageleatherjackets.org/threads/raaf-f-4e-phantom-iis.24258/
That shows the Sparrow-F-4E in the background, along with some other ones. But the pylons for the other planes are out of view so I can’t tell

F-4’s are only capable of carrying 4 missiles (excluding the aim-7’s because they get specialized mounts on the belly, you can see this if you look under the aircraft without the aim-7’s mounted)

Jaek_ makes a good video comparing them but it basically comes down to

USA
F4C no CMS, bad engines, no PD, no internal gun
F4E 90 CMs, Good engines, no PD, dogfight slats, internal gun
F4J 60 CMs, good engines, PD, no internal gun
F4S 60 CMs, good engines, PD, Slats, no internal gun

Germany
F-4F (Early) No CMs, good engines, no PD, dogfight slats, internal gun
F-4F (Late) 90 CMs, good engines, no PD, dogfight slats, lower BR, internal gun
F-4F ICE 90 CMs, good engines, PD, dogfight slats, AIM-120, high BR, internal gun

UK

FGR2/FG1 90 CMs, great engines, PD, no internal gun
F4J(UK) 60 CM’s, good engines, PD, no internal gun

Japan
F4EJ 90 CMs, Good engines, no PD, internal gun
F4EJ Kai 90 CMs, Good engines, PD, internal gun

Israel
F4E 90 CMs, Good engines, no PD, dogfight slats, internal gun
Kurnass 2000 290 CMs, good engines, PD, dogfight slats, internal gun, Python 3

Theres 4 kinds of phantoms on the game

  1. Flareless
    -F4C
    -F4F Early

  2. F4E and clones
    -F-4E
    -F-4E Kurnass
    -F-4F
    -F-4EJ and ADTW

  3. Naval
    -F-4J
    -F-4S
    -FGR. 2
    -FG. 1
    -F-4J(UK)

  4. Upgraded
    -Kurnass 2000
    -F-4EJ KAI

The British Phantoms dont “Suck”
Their just missing some things that make the other ones attactive,
Their BR is the same because they have those upgraded engines that are much better for acceleration and they have the 90cms compared to the other Naval phantoms which only have 60,

Or in the case of the F4J UK, yes, it does suck, dont buy it

the f4c has good engines, in fact it has the same engine as the f4e. I believe the afterburner on the f4e was better though.

It does not have the same engines as the F4C has two General Electric J79-GE-15 engines
and the F4E has the upgraded two General Electric J79-GE-17 jets, which are less smokey and have more thrust
