With the recent infantry testing, I’m putting forward a discussion focused on expanding the game’s scope into the 1900 - 1920 period, particularly around World War I era gameplay and equipment. This timeframe makes sense because it represents the transition into modern warfare introducing early tanks, widespread machine guns, trench systems, gas protection, and coordinated infantry tactics that still connect directly to what War Thunder already models. Bringing this era into infantry mode could introduce a very different style of play, emphasizing slower pacing, positioning, and teamwork.
In terms of equipment and tools, this period offers a surprising amount of variety: bolt-action rifles, early semi-automatic prototypes, heavy and light machine guns, trench shotguns, pistols, bayonets, and melee tools like entrenching shovels. Support equipment could include grenades, early gas masks, signal flares, and field gear for communication and coordination. For specialized or experimental tech, there’s a lot of interesting potential early flamethrowers, primitive submachine gun concepts, anti-tank rifles, rifle grenades, and even improvised or limited-use devices that reflect the rapid innovation of the time. Vehicles could also tie in, with infantry interacting alongside early tanks or armored cars in a more supportive role.
Overall, this era could bring a unique mix of historical authenticity, special maps from around the would (China, Africa, Europe, what if like Mexico) and experimental design, giving infantry mode a different feel while still fitting within the game’s combined arms focus. Curious to hear what others think would this kind of slower, more methodical gameplay work, and what equipment or prototypes would you want to see included?
This is a discussion post not a suggestion post. I know Gaijin stated Korea but they have changed there mind before this is to just start a conversation and prevent people from over focusing on drones and stuff. Maybe we find stuff that can be passed to the devs who know. But thanks :-)
Would be a massive +1 for WW1 infantry. Would also be a great way to introduce WW1 proper to the game with aircraft and tanks.
The tanks were primarily built for attacking trenches and deal with infantry. The tanks wouldn’t be too strong as weapons were being developed for dealing with them such as the British 1.59-inch Breech-Loading Vickers Q.F. Gun, Mk II, otherwise known as the Vickers-Crayford Rocket Gun, or the German K-Bullet or the M1918 Tankgewehr anti-tank rifle.
The planes were mostly fighters, ground attackers and light bombers with some having dedicated ground attack equipment like pilot dropped grenades, flechettes, and downward facing machine guns.
There’s plenty of infantry equipment and vehicles that could come and hopefully will come so long as Gaijin decides to include pre-Korean war era’s for infantry.
