Sorry should have said why germany didnt want them, not trying to say gaijin messed up.
Ehhh… I am not cultured enough, so I might be wrong, but I believe in cost-saving.
Western Germany was at the front line of the Cold War, so if the Cold War became hot, they would’ve needed to tank the whole soviet air force.
Then… they may want to have more F-4s for both defending airspace and bombing these Iron Curtains which cross their fields
Saving cost from both wire and sparrow to buy a few more planes, maybe?
IIRC post-WW2 treaty limitations.
Money, weight, and doctrine. Money is obvious, spending less on the Sparrows and the wiring during construction was important as West Germany needed a large military on a budget.
The Bundeswehr also wanted them to be as light as possible so the could have better manoeuvrability and burn less fuel, other stuff the the 8th fuel tank, slotted stabilator and the ram air turbine were all deleted, saving about 1 t in weight.
Finally since West Germany was on the border with Warsaw Pact it was assumed that any interception would be happening at close ranges which was more in the domain of the Sidewinder so the Sparrow would not be seen to be as important.
F14B is 13.0 with worse radar and worse missiles cry F14 also has worse FM because AOA button
You get access to fox3 even if they are the worst or 2nd worst? In the game. I get the sparrows are more reliable but its not like aim54 are worthless, its still a tool to make people go defensive long before a sparrow ever could.
Both have the AoA button? And f14 is still a better bvr platform, you climb and go faster than f18.
Not trying to claim its doing great at 13.0, obviously id rather be in something like a su33 there, but if I had to choose between f14b and f18 at least for bvr the f14b clearly wins. Again compression sucks.
funny cause gaijin has it in game at like 0.5t at best, and I’ve even had WTRTI tell me the F-4F weighed more when I checked lmao
