The Mirage 4000 is unfit for BR 13.0: Radar and Fox-1 obsolete against the current meta

Hello everyone,

I wish to open a debate on the current state of the Mirage 4000. In my opinion, it is largely outdated at its current Battle Rating of 13.0.

The observation is simple: the Mirage 4000 is a prototype that lacks the necessary weapon systems to compete at the top tier. It is ironic to note that the Mirage 4000 has a higher BR than the Mirage 2000C (S4 or S5), even though it never passed the prototype stage and was never mass-produced. Gaijin decided to add it with a historically “logical” radar/armament configuration for the prototype, but this configuration is absolutely no longer competitive at 13.0.

Critical systems obsolete for Top Tier

The M4000’s radar and missile suite is globally obsolete against the constant threats it encounters at 13.0. It faces aircraft equipped with Fox-3s (R-77, AIM-120, PL-12) or the best Fox-1s (R-27ER, AIM-7M) daily. The RDM Radar + Super 530D pairing cannot compete effectively:

The current RDM radar is up to 12.0 standards, not 13.0.

The 530D requires a constant radar lock (SARH guidance) and its Pulse Doppler mode is mainly “HDN” (Head-on/front sector). This forces the M4000 to expose itself frontally to guide its missile, turning it into an easy target for any Fox-3 opponent who can fire and maneuver immediately (fire and forget), or even against standard DP radars like those of the Su-27, MiG-29, Su-30, F-15, F-18, F-16, etc.

Difficult advantages to exploit

Its only real assets are its significant number of countermeasures and its Magic 2s. However, using the Magic 2s is becoming extremely complicated in the current meta: given the proliferation of aircraft like the Su-30 (especially the premiums), managing to get within IR firing range without being shot down first is quite a feat (I’m exaggerating a little, but it’s becoming complicated to play solely with Magic 2s in the current meta).

Conclusion and proposals

Currently, the Mirage 4000 is systematically in a situation of technological inferiority. Two solutions are conceivable in my opinion:

The logical solution (Downtier): The Mirage 4000 must go down in BR (12.7, or even 12.3). In its current configuration, it is simply not cut out for 13.0.

The “What If” alternative (Upgrade): If Gaijin wishes to keep it at top tier, they must show some “kindness” and improve the aircraft. Since the aircraft is already in the game with a configuration that is “technically possible but not real,” why not take the logic to its conclusion? Give it a modern radar (RDY or RDI) and MICA missiles, as the manufacturer planned to give it if the aircraft had been developed. Even without a helmet-mounted sight (HMD), such a “hypothetical evolved” version would justify a solid 13.3 or 13.7 BR.

8 Magic 1s with decent flight performance is not 12.7 worthy in the slightest.

What we do need is decompression, because 13.0 can be split into 3 separate BRs.

Those should be 13.7.

I agree, the eight Magic 2s are powerful, certainly, but the BR 13.0 planes are the first Fox 3 planes for all nations.

To say that a plane with good Fox 2 missiles and good stats is enough to compensate for the lack of BVR against planes with Fox 3s is a mistake.

And all the 13.0 planes without effective radar and Fox 1s or 3 are a pain to play.

Everyone knows that, and I’d even say the Chinese one with the PL12s could be higher.

If anything that happens to Mirage 4k is also mirrored to Gripen A (another IR reliant 13.0) then sure

And also F-15A. Pretty much any 13.0 without Fox-3s, if we are being real. It’s not something just the M4K struggles with

I’m talking about the 4000 because I had the brilliant idea of reusing it to earn some XP for the Rafale M, but the argument works with all 13.0 without Fox3 and even more so without Fox1 (Gripen A, F16A…).

Hell no. If anything a plane with 8 magic 2s (or 6 and 2 SAHRs) should be 13.3.

Absolutely not, as I indicated in my first message.
The Mirage 4000 is disadvantaged by its RDM radar, which is less effective than the RDI radar on the Mirage 2000C S4 or S5. The 530D missile (which the RDM radar cannot guide Irl) is ineffective against a 13.0 aircraft equipped with Fox3 or Fox1 (long range) because, although excellent, it is equivalent to the R27 or Aim 7F, but not to the R27ER, Aim 7M, or P. As for the Magic 2 missiles, they are very effective, but on a battlefield where all aircraft are equipped with Fox 3 or Fox 1 long-range missiles, their effectiveness is minimal.
The Mirage 4000 and other aircraft lacking good missiles should not be able to encounter aircraft equipped with Fox3 missiles as frequently and be at the same BR.

Then switch up strategies between uptiers/downtiers.

thats completly irrelevant to ingame balance.

Im not aware of single 13.0 ARH that doesnt get mogged by M4K past merge.

to list 7M as best Fox-1 alongside R-27ERs is certainly a choice lol.

which are by many considered undertiered af.

its not “just Magic 2s”, its 8x of them.

struggling in uptier isnt problem unique to the M4K.

12.3?

uptiers against ARHs are unplayable for M4K so I propose to make uptiers for every 11.3 unplayable against M4K

anyway the problem is that the 13.0 is compressed to hell and back. You have Su-27/33 on the same BR as 29G, throw in the Gripen A and the 13.0 belgian F-16 as well the legacy platform ARH carriers…

You could argue that the squadron belgian F-16 is 12.7 but A) that thing doesnt have any SARHs at all and B) lot of people are still stunned it isnt 13.0 already

Point is, we need even more decompression. Hopefully once the next gen IRs arrive.
