The F-16AJ’s 12.7 BR is inconsistent and outdated — It needs to be lowered to 12.3

I like it

why are your screenshots so funky

free hand snips

Excuse you what? Its no better than the F-4S but is 0.3 higher.

It should be the same BR as the F-4S.

its literally better than the F-4S in everything but flight model
Better IRs, full PD radar for sparrows, better rwr, more countermeasures.

APG-66 all-aspect PD radar
J/APR-6 full digital RWR detecting all relevant bands featuring target identification, launch warning, and missile warning
more countermeasures adding up t0 90, 30 of which are large, all of which pointing downward (more reliable than upward)
4 AIM-9Ls instead of AIM-9G/H

is it still not superior to the F-4S?

The better argument would be that its comprable to the Tornado F3/ADV at 12.0, and whilst yes, in an ideal world the F3 should actually join the Kai at 12.3 (Id advocate for it if they ever fix its CMs and FM) with the great compression of moving the F-15s down and total fail to move the F-18s and Su-30s up… The Kai probably belongs at 12.0 for the time being

Yeah I don’t see how the kai can be 12.0 when it has full pd AIM-7Ms. The Tornado F.3 only 2 pros over the EJ kai are its 9ms and BOL countermeasures, and as it stands right now is still an objectively worse plane.

" it needs to be lowered to 12.3 "

or you know, give it the weapons capabilities it is missing and keep it at 12.7?

its missing extra AIM-7 stations on the landing gear doors.

this was denied in the past because “we can’t figure out how to handle the doors being damaged and what to do with the missile afterward” but this argument literally never existed because mounted ordnance was always deleted if the part it was mounted on was detached.

giving the F-16J its “historical” (its a bit silly saying that considering its a paper plane) would make it decently stronger. then all that remains to do is to undo the last BR changes that moved the M2K and F-15s down in BR and all will be well.

pretty sure there was also an idea to give it wingtip mounted sparrows, which would allow it to take 6 sparrows and 2 sidewinders, but from what i know that was dropped since it would require a small wing redesign

It doesnt have 9Ms.

Its advantages are:

  • Better radar
  • Better RWR
  • More CMs (though BOL)
  • Higher top speed
  • Skyflash STs (actually quite decent these days)

The main downside of the F3 is the lack of any meaningful WVR pressence outside of fighting bad players.

debatable, foxhunter is still missing its all-aspect PD after all, though it does have TWS

in practice they’re 1:1, maybe one identifies more threats than the other but that’s practically inconsequential

they’re more of a sidegrade to the 7F/M than an improvement or nerf, they sacrifice a bit of range for a bigger acceleration kick

Its had that for the past 2 years. its got one of the best M-Scan radars below about 13.7

Ah, didnt know the kai had a digital RWR, thought it had largely the same RWR as many of the other F-4s.

You also cant roll them. Ive also found they quite reliably track the target you fire them at

Better Radar

Its a HDN only radar. The only “better” part is the existence of a TWS mode, which is good quality-of-life wise but does not actually improve weapons performance. The Skyflashes associated with this radar also has less range than 7F/Ms; you can check this for yourself on Statshark.

Better RWR

Both has digital RWRs.

More CMs

something i already mentioned as one of the few advantages the F.3 has.

Better top speed

EJ reliably out-accelerates F.3 with its wings swept in.

admittedly forgot about that, but 7F/Ms are still perfectly reliable considering 99% of warthunder players are braindead troglodytes that don’t know you can survive sparrows by holding 2 buttons down at the same time

pretty sure retracting the wings can create more drag at low speed than keeping them out due to having to fly at increased AoA for the same lift

Yeah, doesnt matter that much though, its one of the hardest radars to notch and is all-aspect. Ive rather reliably fought a lot of aircraft I dont have much buissness fighting, like F-15s

My experience is that F-4s can rarely catch up/keep pace, including with something like the GR4 which has weaker engines. So I dont entirely trust that at the moment. I think there is more to it than that

Personally i have never failed to catch tornados with phantoms. I believe it is more that tornados are found already flying in a straight line for bases and so have speed built up - while F-4s are more often going in and out of fights.

Maybe, but Ive rather relaibly kept them at bay before

it might be confirmation bias honestly, you’re more inclined to keep a tornado fast since you instantly die when you turn for more than 6 seconds at a time without regaining energy. phantoms can generally afford to slow down more since they’re not only more maneuverable but also more agile at literally all speeds giving them more offensive and defensive options

you’re focusing on retaining energy in the tornado so you’re already going comfortably fast, the phantoms bleeding speed with the aggressive playstyle they can very much afford need much more time to catch you than if they’d also kept speed
