Plus, most people who play the lightning actually know how to play it where as most f104a pilots eat crayons in a jet that is far superior. Yeah, against yack 38s lol. Against f104s going mach its a dice role, furthest ive gotten them to work is 1.2km, but then ive gotten 9bs to do that against f104s so its not something special. Its just not modelled in game sadly otherwise the sraam and red top would actually be worth taking over some of the earlier missiles.
It is so much better than anything less than a 9J its absurd. And while it may have short range against a full-speed F-104, thats the case for everything, not specificially the Red Top. It does not, in fact, have especially short range.
The only time a red top is hitting anything further than a 9b is if its above 7.5km. If your at that alt in an 8.3 your either in a mig 15 or your an idiot. An F-104, if hes smart, can easily out run it by doing what you should do against any other missile and do small turns to bleed its energy. Honestly, its like youve never had to face any other missile other than a 9b lmao. And a 9j lmao? a 9e is better in most situations you would find yourself in at the br.
The seeker is also capabld of comfortably acquiring and maintaining lock from angles that 9Bs and Es could only dream of. It is better than them in literally every way.

Just tested it, F-104 you can lock frontally 1km almost, basically sub 1km. The f-106 on the other hand you can lock from 1.6km lmao… Dont ask me why.

These are the only AIM-9B-carrying aircraft you’ve ever used (and you’ve never used the E). On what authority do you believe you can say the early AIM-9s are “far better than people give them credit”? I doubt you’ve ever used them. I’d suspect you’re basing your judgement of the AIM-9B assuming it’s similar to the AIM-9G, if you aren’t just completely BSing.
It’s even a similar story with Morvran. Six (6) battles in the Scimitar. Over 300 hundred in the Buccaneer, but only 20 kills, mostly in simulator. Neither of you know at all what you are talking about.
They actually do pull a decent amount, the problem is its only really in one direction meaning they are easily rolled. If you think a guy is going to pull up and only up it does have a decent chance of hitting them as long as they dont pull more than 5gs. Ive spaded the french f100d and many other jets with them and i find that i actually quite like the b’s, the e’s are slightly better as leading helps quite a bit. As long as they are fired at around mach they are fantastic long range snipers against distracted people in a dog fight.
Although i dont have thousands of games in one jet i do have hundereds in many. I have plenty of experience with red tops pre and post “nerf” (they were honestly better before simply because they could be used in a dog fight with side aspect shots where as now your more limited in what you do, with the extra range not being seen until at alt where they actually become quite scary). I also have many games with the 9b and 9e. They are far from bad, they just require patients and skill just like the red tops. The red tops are 9e equivalents with pros and cons over them.

id only think it could go to 9.7 if we moved up the current 9.7s or gave it flares as it sucks fighting 9Gs and shafir 2s from ayits and harriers also most 9.3s suck cause ya gotta fight R60s and AIM9Js like J35XS and MIG 21 SMT/MF
The F-106 is at 9.3 whilst the F-104, Lightning and Mig-21s are 9.7. It should be 9.7.
Its annoying enough as it is for something like the Jag GR1 to go from 9.7 to 10.0 for the sake of all the supersonics to be 0.3 higher, but to have the F-106 just forgotten is really annoying
So does everything else at 9.7 that doesnt have flares, they are still extremely avoidable rear aspect missiles.
I say all this knowing you’re talking about RB and not sim, but in sim the F-106 is quite literally one of the lowest BR’d supersonics, period, full stop.
