Team killing policy - follow up thread

why did i get a ban for 3 weeks? I don’t kill any teammate

Gaijin needs to lower the threshold for friendly damage and subsequent auto-kick from Air RB matches from 2 to 1 team kills.

I just came out of a match:

Gaijin Entertainment - Single Sign On

…in which an enemy Yak-3 killed (fully intended) two friendly fighters and got just then auto-kicked. The loss of 3 fighters completely changed the outcome of this match as my team was previously totally outnumbered (just bombers left) and had before this malicious action no realistic chance to win.

In other words: A single player prevented that his entire team received the SL & RP bonus for an almost guaranteed victory. This can’t be right.

Match summary
  • I had bombed (in a B-18B) 4 x ground for my daily and had damaged an enemy Do 217 with a very cheap bot script (reported too) and had planned to leave the match. The weather was pretty bad (thunderclouds) and i had massive PL and several connection losses in the first minutes.

  • So flying vs 5 fighters and 2 bombers with a rookie team mate in a T-18 (he messed up his 2nd landing) and a clumsy B-17 as last team mates made no sense - especially if you can’t go low due to connection losses and markers don’t work in really bad weather; so you are flying more or less blind below contrail alt - not my thing.

  • Out of curiosity i stayed in spectator mode and saw that one of the 2 remaining fighters got an oil leak whilst strafing and killing the B-17 on our forward airfield.

  • My last friendly crashed and i decided to respawn hoping that despite the PL (up to 25%) and the connection losses i would able able to sideclimb in order to face the last enemy fighter (a Yak-9K) at higher alt above this cloud nonsense.

  • Long story short - i lost 3 or 4 times server connection, faced up to 27% PL and the Yak-9 rammed one of my ai planes on purpose - imho totally undeserved ticket win as all i had to do was to stay alive.

One of the worst examples of team killing I’ve seen, with no punishment at all, is in Air-RB. If someone kills a friendly at the start of the match when we’re all taking off, and then the player who gets teamkilled loses control of their plane (due to no wing) and rams into other player(s) taking off, they also receive a team kill penalty. It should be the person who teamkilled at the start who should receive both penalties, as they caused a daisy chain of crashes.

I think they should add a system that, if a plane is badly damaged and crashes into another, the player who caused the damage should receive both kills. That means if an enemy damages you and you crash into a friendly, then it should be attributed to the enemy for both, instead of an assist. The same applies to a friendly, so they get kicked out of the match for two friendly team kills. At the very least, it should count as a double friendly kill. They can easily be sorted out so that they only attribute crashes and not missiles or primary/secondary fires that result in the death of friendly personnel.

There are also people dropping bombs at air spawn, causing multiple friendlies to get damaged and not necessarily dying straight away. They have no choice but to fight, even if slightly damaged, or turn around and land to repair. There is nothing to capture that type of griefing and relies on reporting, which, of course, probably doesn’t do much.

Honestly this would be lovely when engaging formations. Sometimes you hit a bomber just right and it causes the formation to blow up and you only get 1 kill despite being the reason for breaking the formation apart (bombs vs .50 cal feels a bit broken tbf).

Disclaimer: I do not deal with these types of bans and have no behind the scenes information on how teamkill bans are made, this information is based on personal opinions and a general understanding from publicly available information.

That is likely where you are wrong. All types of damage done to Friendlies is recorded in some way and added as “points” to the system that then at some unknown total amount of points hands out a punishment of appropriate size. As far as i understand it those points are also compared to the amount of time passed and respawns done between getting those points to see if a punishment is necessary or not (Source: https://support.gaijin.net/hc/en-us/articles/200069301-Teamkilling). So i’m guessing that a gun-kill will land you more points than slight damage done by a bomb for example.

Reporting teamkills that the system might not catch still helps though. When teamkilling done in a way where it doesn’t show up in the kill feed and where the system might not catch it (like pushing a tank into water or pushing a friendly plane into the ground for example) it needs to be reported using the server replay report function and not the in-game complaint system. A guide on how to create a correct report for each in-game issue can be found here: (How to properly report players and contact Game Masters!).

And reporting does help, they did a ban wave for griefing/teamkills in November that explicitly included bans due to ramming.

Since then they have posted about teamkill bans alongside the cheating bans in i think all of the ban waves (not 100% if it’s all of them but i think so). So reporting does indeed work.

Everyone says to use the server report system, so is the in game one just a cosmetic?

Short answer? Yes.

I saw a team kill related thread with such a post:

If you read the whole thread:

The quoted player (creator of OP) complained about getting team killed by a “racist” player in a Air SB match.

Fun facts:

  1. He linked the server replay link to this thread
  2. He agreed / was comfortable to play PvE
  3. He crashed at least on time on purpose
  4. He called his team mate a “thai dog” (15:08)

It was a pleasure to report the OP 😂

Have in mind that manual reports of team kills are (if actually classified as team kill by the battlelog and subsequently charged with a fine) a waste of time.

Game Masters (GMs) confirm frequently that they are not interfering with the auto-ban system (see OP) - and that they have no details about who within gaijin reacts how (and if) on manual reporting of other team kills like ramming.

Feel free to add suggestions about adequate punishments - but have in mind that team kills are handled (automatically) differently between RB and SB matches and gaijin plays also a role (like rogue AAMs or dysfunctional IFF).

Have a good one!

Just pop out some question from my head as I never get a Nuke… Do you basically Teamkill all your teammates when you drop a Nuke?? Or does your teammates basically just miraculously survived and protected by the Snail god? And if not how much will the repair cost be if it got drop in Top Tier?

Imho you brought up a rather interesting topic which proves that wt is pure fantasy - by using common sense the answer is obvious.

Technically seen (depending on used warhead and simulated combat area) you kill more or less all guys on the battlefield (including the carrier aircraft) either direct or indirect (blast/heat/shock wave & radiation).

But nobody would drop a nuke in wt if he would have to pay the fines for killing his whole team - and nobody within the enemy team would even try to continue playing if a player in the enemy team is near a nuke.

On top of that: The auto-ban system would temp ban highly successful players frequently (if his team at the battlefield would be considered as getting team killed) - so gaijin would combine a reward (dropping a nuke) with a punishment (temp ban) - makes no sense…

So the answer is no.

The nuke concept (as currently implemented) is actually an immersion killer. I wrote some time ago this:

Have a good one!

Can someone explain why the behavior is so prevalent? It’s not something I understand. It’s only impacted me directly for the first couple times in the last few days, but it seems to occur in the majority of matches… and it just seems weird.

It’s certainly disappointing that it isn’t punished. It can snowball your team before you even see a bandit.

Depends on what you’re doing. Some people are weird and shoot down people trying to bomb, other times they shoot you down for bombing their base

The instance that really stood out to me personally:

  • at match start/spawn. Teammate is shooting on the runway, decides to single me out continue shooting as we take off. I tell him to stop (and may have suggested he go back to playing arcade), then land to repair. He attempts to strafe me on the runway, and continues to attack as I take off. I was playing with my son - my son came back just in time to break him off me so I could take off. Really no idea why he would attack teammates (fighter on fighter), and then continue to attack instead of just playing the match.

The thing is, I see this on one team or the other in probably half my matches… maybe more. A fighter shooting down another fighter. It’s like a weird cultural artifact I just don’t understand.

They just think it’s funny to ruin people’s games

I TK players that shoot at the enemy that is 100m infornt of me giving me a hair cut with their missiles

Reasons

They make me miss my gun shot- stealing the kill.
Its random if you killed me or the enemy so you dont care if i died… same goes in reverse

Base bombing fighter jets that ignore helping friendlies to get their base points also get TK.

I could care less about base bombers. Like how terrible, they are trying to grind in the most efficient way possible!

However I do agree about kill stealers. Like who gave you the right to steal my kill? And if I even get flaps slightly yellow, I purposely crash just so they get kicked from the match for TKing.

You are aware of that such “reasons” assume that others would have to play by your rules - and if not, you feel the need to “educate” them.

You are surrounded by kids which behave like kids - not hard to understand.

As you fly WW 2 era props some of my own Golden Rules which might help to reduce the times you get attacked by friendlies:

  1. If you use aircraft with airfield spawn - spawn in as last guy, and take off as last guy. Keep an eye on the guys with airspawn behind and above the runway - a lot of team kills (either with guns or by ramming) happen when those guys dive on your team.
  2. If you use aircraft with airspawn - spawn as last and break away from the others immediately.
  3. Observe always friendlies near you - you can judge by their flight patterns if they are hostile.
  4. Stay out of furballs - focus on enemies extending from furballs
  5. Avoid Chinese props - idk why but this Taiwan/Mainland animosity somehow increases the chances to become a target. If you are the fastest boy in your team and the lobby is crowded with CHN players: Use team chat and state “China #1” or “Taiwan #1” (your choice) and look what happens 😎
  6. Stay out of in-game chat in general (except you want to spice up the match like point #5) - do your thing, stay away from friendlies, but close enough in order to help them if necessary.

With these “rules” you can play way more relaxed.

Kill steals were strongly reduced thx to the severe damage.

Most players are not even able to determine what a kill steal is. A plain fire is usually just a critical hit - and a lot of crits have timers.

In other words: A hell of players assume kill stealing based on them having no clue how damage mechanics actually work.

Last but not least:

Crashing on purpose (like in your case with damaged flaps) is actually detrimental for your team (at least in Air RB) as you influence the numbers game and decrease the chances to win the match.

The friendly which damaged you upfront made it clear that he doesn’t care about team kill fines - so there is no educational effect connected to your behaviour.

Your goal for getting him kicked out of the match is not working in RB matches as the threshold is 2 team kills. The damage counter kicks guys with just 1 team kill only after multiple hits (so like a full burst) - so with just minor damage he won’t get kicked.

Prudent advice. Thankfully (or not?), I’m usually the guy observing it happen to someone else and have only experienced it myself a couple times. My older son must be smarter than me, he’s already started doing a few of these things.

I have definitely accidentally TK’d - perhaps 3-4 times. I am much better about looking for friendlies now - and if it means I hold fire or switch to a new target, that’s what I do. Because I don’t own that bandit and I don’t have a special right to the kill. If we’re in the same fur ball and there’s a clean shot on a plane that’s still a threat, you’ve gotta expect someone to take it (I would) - because that’s how you win.

I’ve sent plenty of bandits low an into my teammates… and then pulled off because they can handle it and I can pick a higher threat/uncovered bandit. If I want more kills, I need to get better/faster and finishing. ;-)
