Phantom FGR.2 at 12.0 makes no sense

Doesn’t help that the Skyflashes don’t appear to work. They don’t track targets properly despite perfect lock and launch conditions, normally veer off in the opposite direction. But Britain must suffer because god knows why.

they work fine

Yeah I’d beg to differ

show a recording of a skyflash failing

they work just fine in my experience

Are you guys talking about the skyflash superTemp? I think its slightly better than the 7F since it accelerates faster if I am recalling correctly.

Best sparrow is probably aspide/pl-11, unfortunate those things are on such mid platforms

yeah… the FGR2 is completely outclassed at its BR, even vs the other 12.0 Phantoms, but totally screwed in an uptier. Only time I touch them is ASB where they are actually at a playable BR.

I have noticed that sometimes the Skyflash DFs (never had an issue with the Skyflash STs) just straight up miss the target despite being well within range, fired correctly and the target not appearing to defend. I dont play the aircraft enough to get a good clip of it and the last time It happened, the replay kept crashing (ASB for you).

But I’ve heard similar before from both Viggen C/D players and even once from someone stockgrinding the Tornado F3 (and so was using the Skyflash DFs).

Whilst I have no direct evidence for it. I strongly suspect there is something not entirely right about Skyflash DFs when guided via PD/PDV lock, (though work absolutely fine in SRC lock) . Just remains a theory for now, but its not an aircraft I perticularly enjoy, so that theory will remain untested at least by me

No Skyflash DFs on the Phantom. They are basically just Aim-7E-2s

Legacy BR and nothing lower can really handle a fully laden phantom

If by playable you mean borderline overpowered yeah, hell I’d probably say they just are overpowered.

Still weaker than the Mig-23MLD at the same BR. So… kinda necessary

Both of these jets from what I can tell are about 50 feet above everybody else at the BR in terms of power. They’re both simply overpowered.

Not really, mld is for sure op but the British phantom ain’t even as good as the viggen

That’s only when stock.
When spaded the FGR2 is equal to all other 12.0.

Hell nah…

+Better Engine

-Worse SARH missile compared to F-4J/S(USN)
[AIM-7F vs Skyflash AKA AIM-7E-2]
-No HMD (I know you will claim that it is meaningless, but still, it is a difference)
-No napalm bomb (which will make you harder to take base for escaping stock harder, and will still make a difference if you really want to bomb base for extra RP and SL after spading.)

Both F-4K/M (FG.1/FGR.2) are direct proof of British taxes. (Just like Tornado GR.1 does)
There is no means that they should share the same goddamn BR with F-4J/S.

Especially during THIS period that those shameless damn forsaken F/A-18A stuck at 12.3BR.

I didn’t realise the RAF Phantoms got:

  • Aim-7F
  • HMD
  • Napalm
  • Agile Eagle

12.0 isn’t an HMD BR, and it doesn’t have R-73s to make it worth it.
FGR2 is already faster than F-4E/J with bombs over napalm, especially now that everything airspawns as the slowest part of bombs vs napalm is takeoff.

So yeah, that exclusively leaves E-2s, which are a fine front-aspect missile.

@Morvran
Agile Eagle makes the F-4J perform worse than the FGR2 due to the higher drag.
Refer to above for the rest.

the F-4J doesnt get Agile Eagle. Neither does the F-4S really, they arent the same slats as on the F-4E

Look up.

It won’t change the fact it is still a bit worse than AIM-7F/M.

??? That means it’s even more impressive/good that the F-4J/S has a HMD… they can get radar locks MUCH faster than other jets and in the precise timing they desire while other jets are swinging their noses around trying to ACM you or get a scan for SRC. The HMD allows you to setup SARH shots very fast.

7E2 is not anywhere near as good as 7F/7M/Supertemp at the BR.

only in situations where you do not desire quick maneuverability…

the F-4J doesn’t have slats at all though, it’s just naturally more agile due to weight. The F-4S on the other hand is FAR more agile than both due to its slats. It also isn’t slow at all from the slats.
