Quite so! On jet planes let them fly tail-first )))
One thing I found while trying to read up on fw190 on open vs close canopy:
Supposedly Fw190’s canopy, if opened mid-flight, can induce vibrations for the tail. Unfortunately, I don’t speak german so cannot verify, but if anyone here does it’s supposedly in its PoH.
Does not matter of plane can fly with open cockpit or not, in either case pilot won’t be able to hear nex to nothing form outside…
It one of the biggest stupidities of WT along with AC shredding landing gears due to speed.
Which is already the case.
Really? I can still hear things flying around me with ease…
What’s your Own Engine sound set at?
Because if it’s less than 100%, I could understand. And I would love if they removed the ability to differentially set own vs others’ engine sounds as well, it’s kind of ridiculous the difference it makes at GRB/GSB.
With it set at max, all I hear is my engine and wind. Only if I’m literally on verge of touching the enemy plane do I maybe hear anything on their part.
By touching, I mean like this:
At which point, you can hear it even in a closed cockpit.
You can’t. Not with open cockpit, not without mods, not until you’re already touching the enemy planes.
In fact I already disproved this with an earlier video where I’m so close to a Skyraider that I can see how many bombs and rockets he has, and yet I can’t hear him at all.
Even with minimum own engine sound and maximum enemy engine sound, you won’t hear a thing until they’re right next to you. If they’re coming from behind, you’re not hearing them ever unless you have your cockpit closed which drowns out both your engine and the wind so much you’ll just barely be able to hear them.
You can… There are big differences of hearing enemy aircraft. It varies from plane to plane. Try a Rus plane… and u can hear the enemy prop from 1km away.
In jets, same thing…
Uh huh. Video or didn’t happen.
OMG…
Everyone can see, or better hear, the differences in the test flight mode Gaijin gives us…
Just try the different planes u have…
Maybe it has something to do with the engine sound of the enemy aircraft… But the CL 13’s for example can be heard from about 2km… And yes. The new engine sounds are terrible… even if you fly side by side, same speed and altitude, the engines of some planes sound like they are ramping up and slowing back down all the time…
It’s like we are in an 80’s video game. Not 2025…
Test flights do not count. Real matches or didn’t happen.
Because they are AI planes, not player ones. This wouldn’t be seen in a real match against players.
I play so many matches… And in test flight it sounds similar.
??? When did I say it is an Ai plane I was flying side by side?
Right now I fly the F5 A(G). And If I fly close about 1km to another F5 A(G) (not Ai…), I can hear it very well… If I fly close to a MIG, I hear nothing… when if I’m closer than 1km… way closer
A few days ago I’ve had a super cursed spitfire match. Whenever I wanted to go land, I got interrupted.
It finally culminated in my FINALLY entering landing pattern, slowing down as appropriate and opening my canopy as Spitfire operating manual instructs.
Wouldn’t you know it, Ki-44-ii came out of nowhere and I had to dive to avoid dying. Canopy promptly ripped off.
We ended up chasing each other around for 8 minutes straight because I’ve had no hope of catching them and yet they kept coming back to try and strafe me on landing and they had no hope of hitting me.
Over this time, we’ve had a number of close calls as I tried to bait the Ki-44 out to fly in front of my guns by wiggling my butt enticing at its guns. Unfortunately, 7.92mm spitfire bullets do absolutely nothing so this kept up until the AAA finally finished their tea break and shot the Ki-44-ii down.
Never once in those close encounters did I ever hear anything other than the loud wind and the even louder engine up front. Okay, occasionally my engine died and there was a bit of sweet silence because…
I keep pushing nose down before rolling.
No Ki-44-II sounds anywhere despite being well within 1 kilometer of each other for 8 minutes of suffering that went nowhere unless you count the sound of bullets whizzing past my head.
Oh, I’m sure you did so, and not fly around like that the moment u took off. Maybe you can post the server replay ID. I really would like to watch that fight.
;)
Besides realism matters, what is the problem?
It is not an unfair advantage. Everybody can do it.
Ok. Fly at cruise speed and open your canopy (other than very slow props). You can’t. They don’t want you to fly with open canopy in a combat situation.
I already explained why.
But if you exploit the mechanic, you can fly with an open canopy.
Read the Game Rules:
6.1.2. Exploiting Game bugs, errors, and flaws.
Wouldn’t you know, it I recorded my entire flight from take off to landing.

Spitfire cancels landing: Interrupted by carp (Ki-44-II)
Ok… and you tell me, u didn’t hear the panes at 21:30?? I can hear them…
I hear wind and gunfire.
You can hear both of the planes…
