Notching mechanics causing balance issues

Its something like, in look down the missile is forced into PD and doesnt swap to SRC, so the DL remains active or something. I dont really know tbh.

I was less thinking about making them less accurate, and more just displaying information better. Where applicable, RWRs should also give some form of elevation information, not just direction and its a mess when you have lots of contacts, so being able to filter the RWR by type would be good too, whether through colourised information or toggle filters like we have on radars. Im sure modern RWRs can probably also tell the difference between a passive scan, and a track providing DL to a missile. That way you can have a better sense of what you need to notch.

Became really apparent in NE, because with all those RWR contacts, the RWR was effectively rendered useless.

Absolutely, 0 chance in hell its added in a non-buggy state. But gotta start somewhere

My main concern is any possible trolling ,with guiding the missile onto the wrong target (like a friendly). Same concern regarding buddy lasing.

I can see it happening eventually though.

I dont think this is really true anymore atleast for top tier 14.7. Yes multipath is still a thing everywhere, but having dipped back into top tier over the last couple weeks notching is way more common across the board. This is against the average player too. There seems to be a shift from iron dome and multipath to actually notching and using kinematics.

Alot of these players notch medium range and sometimes close range shots reliably and often. They may not be great and recommitting and counterfire, but notching at top tier absolutely is a common place tactic.

I think making them less accurate would be a decent option though for making notching a little less reliable. Instead of a full smooth 360 deg motion, breaking it up into 3 deg zones or so would be nice to see. Something along that line.

On the filters though holy cow i couldnt agree more. Was just talking about this a few days ago, i absolutely do not care about the CRT ping 80km away. Some simple filter sytems like they have on radar would be such a simple quality of life change that they could easily add.

Maybe, where realistic. Typhoon for example can show RWR contacts in the HMD and provide good enough guidance to fire weapons at an RWR contact. So the level of current accuracy is probably not that unrealistic actually. At least for some aircraft

  • Scalable range options, so you can adjust the RWR for various ranges and see the contacts that are within that area or beyond it.
  • Filter by Air or Ground
  • Filter by track type
  • Ranging information if applicable
  • elevation if applicable
  • Colourise contacts by threat type

etc etc

There are also features present on the MFDs in cockpit that I would like for RWRs, like having the radar FoV overlayed on the RWR.

I’d say it’s because multipathing is the path of least resistance, just like MCM/Iron Dome.

If it was made not viable in any tactical capacity, except maybe running away when you’re out of missiles, fuel or everything (the multipathing would be so low, that if you were flying directly at the missile it would still hit you, but when flying away it wouldn’t), then people would fall back to the next easiest thing, which would be going cold I guess, but then they give away map control for free and have another incentive to learn playing the game.

MICA is only slightly harder to notch than the rest, it has smaller FOV ±3.5 degrees instead of ±7.5 degrees, that’s it.

No, players don’t avoid playing against it because it’s difficult to notch.

They avoid it because it pulls 50Gs, has thrust vectoring, and the best acceleration of all Fox 3s (gives the least reaction time at close range).

And again, the notch gates for the MICA are the same, it has only smaller FOV.

If that’s true, then it’s a significant change that would both increase long range effectiveness and reward skill/knowledge. I didn’t pay that much attention to it to know if it’s true.

Right now when your missile is being notched, and your radar isn’t, data link with ESA radars works well enough.

Idk. With mechanical radars DL connection often breaks seemingly for no reason, that’s my biggest issue with DL.

Yeah ive had much more difficulty notching 120Ds then MICAs. And with BVR becoming more commonplace the MICA is becoming more irrelevant unless you can close the distance. Against SM2 and EF2K thats becoming harder and harder as players learn. MICA is really only a death scentence at 14.0 where you dont have the extra systems to help keep the M2K at range

A hard lock provides similar amounts of DL to an ESA TWS lock, but when M-Scan is in TWS its providing far fewer updates, so the missile bleeds more energy constantly correcting onto target. Then the M-Scans also just loose the contact randomly more often than they probably should, especially if using higher volume modes, and the result of that is that if the contact is lost, even for a moment, the DL is broken.

Best solution there is adding sensor fusion for aircraft with IRSTs that can provide DL and adding Priority Tracking

It might be because everyone switched to spamming the premium tier. This is dead as hell.

I don’t think there is a single person on this team who has successfully notched. My top scoring blueberry is just a dude taking off and spamming missiles.

Everyone plays 13.7 and 14.0 nowadays, top tier is dead because of MCM/Iron Dome. I think all good players stopped playing top tier en masse and play only from time to time.

Currently top tier is not a good place to estimate the skill level of an average player, because of MCM.

It’s also unbalanced as hell, I think my KD in Su-30SM2 is like 6, almost 7. I’m NOT that good. But even in F-15C GE I do well, because players can’t handle basically anything when MCM fails them, and it’s not difficult to outsmart people who do MCM.

Not sure what this proves other then there arent alot of top tier games at the moment. Being a Tuesday i wouldnt expect to see alot of games.

Having played dozens over the past few weeks there is alot more life in toptier then before. Similar lobby counts to months past doesnt reflect on whats actually happening in them.

Ive had some of the most exciting games ive had in years over the past weeks or so, both on and off stream. With the playerbase as a whole actually using tactics other then multipath and mcm.

Yup, these still happen. Not every game is gonna be the same.

On Su-27SM when you hard lock, the plane already switches to IRST if it loses lock and maintains DL connection (although idk if it keeps sending updates to the missile, probably not).

PIRATE for example should ahve 200 target TWS that can work in tandem with the radar, not just a SRC mode that replaces the radar

Im fairly certain it doesnt maintain usable DL. This only applies to ER from my experience when the radar switches to IR, and back to PD if the target breaks the notch, then DL takes back into effect. Its unreliable but can work if they dont time their recommit correctly. Same should aplly to R77 and its way less effective as i usually bites the chaff and loses all energy if DL does somehow reconnect.

I usually see it working when I’m kind of chasing a guy on the deck, being above him, and he turns and notches my radar, then it switches to IRST, then back to radar, and the little vertical line indicating DL stays.

But also in missile jousts sometimes, also if I’m higher.

DL always works best if you’re above the enemy, because then the missile actually uses IOG.

Yeah, the DL will stay in the last location it had a PD lock. It shouldnt follow them when IRST is engaged. But like you said when it switches back to radar the line stays on them. This should be the DL reconnecting the missile to the target. IOG will cause the line to drift in whatever direction it was going when it switched to IRST.

What your seeing is exactly how it should work in game, just replace IRST with chaff. We should see something similar for fox3s if DL worked reliably for them. It works better with ER because its a fox1 and doesnt have that dumb fox3 seaker thatll bite chaff and struggle to reconnect. FOX1 is much more reliable because it only has one real mothod of guidance, being the hard lock.
