X-2 was a testbed akin to EAP, so it won’t be added.
But the built fuselage, engines, radar, weapons bay and TVC system of the final and combat capable aircraft make for an unfinished prototype. Though while I’d love to see some designs like 23/24DMU in game I believe this only allows for the final iteration of the project (and the one the fuselage was for) being 26DMU
This part is speculation, mainly based off their leaked plans to make Korea as subtree rather than a nation, but also the fact nations like Sweden or Israel came before Korea. Obviously plans can change and this doesn’t have to be an accurate leak either.
But what I meant to say was basically
“If Korea can’t get an independent tree, this would be a fair second best choice and benefit China along the way.”
Fair enough, I do think a Korean tree is somewhat unlikely, but I would love to see it, same is true about Poland, like you’d expect to have seen it already by this point
So YF-23 had functional weapons bay and at least part of the final, armed variation completed?
I’m not saying YF-23 wasn’t far enough for the game, I’d love to see YF-23 added at some point, but it was cancelled in favor of YF-22 before it got as far as F-X got before the shift to 6th gen.
YF-23 had a weapons bay but they never fired anything from it. i doubt they fired anything from that either. and im sure some part of the YF-23 wouldve been reused in the final one so yes, it probably did have part of it complete
So going by that then they’re still only equal, both having only parts for the final variation done, but fully functional demonstrators flying.
Either way both are more than what’s needed to pass suggestion rules as unfinished prototype and really only dependent on Gaijins feelings at any given time.
no, the X-2 is equivalent in purpose to the 757 used to test the radar of the F-22, or the EAP, it was used to test specific systems while the YF-23 was the direct prototype to the possible finished fighter, and actually flew while only a fuselage was made for the japanese 5th gen
I wouldn’t quite say this, initial F-X designs were basically a slightly larger X-2 with radar, weapons bays, XF9 engines and XVN3-1 TVC (all of which were prototyped separately). So initially it wasn’t much different from other unarmed prototypes that (for example) have a smaller nose for the lack of radar.
It was only scaled up as much in the later stages, with 26DMU being almost F-22 sized. At that point X-2 could still sufficiently be used to collect flight data, so there was no need for another demonstrator and the project was cancelled in favor of 6th gen development before a final prototype was made.
So arguably I’d still put that up there with YF-23.
For aircraft they don’t, IDK what goes on in ground but as far as air goes, they need something resembling a finished product, late WW2 aside where necessity and old decision making from a decade ago gave us the Ho229 and R2Y2 we are incredibly unlikely to see anything as prototype looking as the YF-23 or X-2. The only reason we have the Yak-141 is because it was incredibly close to finished when the USSR collapsed, and the program was canceled
So you want the incomplete (never armed) YF-23 in intended configuration. That is no different from asking for the i complete F-X in intended configuration.
By itself no, but even just the XF9-1 engines alone are considered qualified for the game according to suggestion rules about unfinished prototypes.
And even then Gaijin just make up as they go, we have stuff like F-16AJ that would be considered too far even by those same rules since it never even had any parts made for it and even past that is represented in a fictional configuration in game.
but there was no F-X, the X-2 had 0 ability to carry weapons iirc, while there was a YF-23, and it did have a weapons bay that couldve been wired up if northrop wasnt struggling at the time
I mean apparently this is technically enough for a suggestion however again without some semblance of what the final thing could have realistically looked like the chances are near zero, this isn’t like tanks where it’s very easy to imagine what if we stuck this gun on this chassis etc, aircraft based off of prototype airframes are very abstract for Gaijin to actually create it
