Derby is better sub 20km especially on high alt bvr fights when it doesnt lose its energy so fast while accelrating much faster then 120
Does it? I havent had much experience with em, they always looked a bit slow on my kfir
Well kfir isnt a great bvr platform more so when u get uptierd almost every match to 14.0
But in general the accelertion is great and unlike r77 it holds its energy well(relative to other short mid range fox 3)
Ofc if its low alt then the derby is better only at 15km and below
The AIM-120A/Bs are argueably some of the most powercrept missiles in game. Sure they are currently the best at BVR, but most of the time BVR ends up being 10-20km engagements where every missile can compete. WVR the AIM-120 is the worst off, and the AMRAAM is just as suceptible to chaff as any other fox3 (apart from the MICA-EM, which is 2x harder to notch than any other fox3 as the seeker is 7.5* opposed to 15, and the Derby/R-Darters which seem to like chaff more than an AIM-9B likes flares). As for you saying you play with russia, I’ve currently been using the R77 on the Su-27SM and its only downside is range. The R77 can do things the AIM-120 couldn’t dream of.
TBH the AMRAAM can do sth R77s dream of: hitting someone without being in dog fight range. I really think they are not that bad in WVR but that in of itself is annoying.
AMRAAM to me isn’t even that bad if used by EF and JAS cause u can pull for the missile the Gs it can’t, F15s are the only ones slightly less potent, but they can also just stay high. I think kinetically AMRAAM isn’t even that much better, but the carriers aka F15E and EF are so fast that it makes AMRAAM seem so much faster.
My point is, the AIM-120A/Bs do not need a nerf. They are good at one thing only (Long range) and that only applies for maybe 2 minutes of a battle before everyone bunches up. The speed of the vehicles that carry them do exaggerate the range, but not by too much. The R-77-1 in a straight shot is better than the AMRAAM at range, but the slower Su-30 (seeing as the point of this thread is russia) platform would make it seem the AIM-120 has more range.
They are really nice as well with kinetic retaining, which is really nice when ur enemy is actually dodging or not flying your way, and u can still have nice chance of hitting.
They don’t need a nerf, everything else need to be buffed at some point, cause like we can’t actually get PL15 or AAM4B for a while, so some countries will be stuck with nothing when new missiles come in like AMRAAMC5.
I agreee the aim 120 needs a nerf
Lol, skill issue
There is an argument to be made that the ranges in which AMRAAM hold an advantage, are also the ranges in which any ARH are fairly easy to defeat, AMRAAM included.
So the ranges I actually usually tend to fire at (and actually get kills) are probably ranges in which everyone else is just as effective at, if not more so because missiles like MICA have the better notch gate thingy and both MICA and R-77-1 pull more Gs (also R-77-1 has the better Time-To-Target)
Not saying that Aim-120 are bad, but they’ve lost a lot of their potency from when they were first added as people have learnt how to actually defend ( rather than relying only on MP)
(Same thing happened with Aim-9M, now more people have properly learnt how to defend against them, Id consider them the weaker of the main 3 (by a small margin))
Now the issue isn’t in defeating them, but what do u do after that. Defeating the missile drains your kinetics quite a bit, and if u don’t fire back, he can just keep firing until u are out of chaff.
In some scenarios I’ve had 4 or 5 AMRAAMs chucked at me from distance, it’s then problematic cause I haven’t got enough CMs to deal with this. 96 is barely enough of a count of J11B, which is sort of the closest contender to AMRAAM carriers, and it’s slower.
The AMRAAM carriers are then allowed to stay high, and there isn’t much that can be done about it, because by trying to raise your nose to fire at them, u are automatically admitting defeat cause all the ones on the floor have an easy time then to take u down. Which inversely is hard to do with non AMRAAM carriers because of the spam and lack of CMs.
And the same can be said for the Su30 with it’s 12x R-771
96 Large Caliber cms on the J11B are plenty enough.
Depending on the range you can typically notch most missiles with 4 or 5 drops while changing altitude.
Notching takes 5 seconds, all you need to do is launch one FOX-3 to the enemy so he goes defensive
Yeah that’s the point, that’s why you need to be able to do that. But most planes are too slow for their missiles to hit the target at 30km range. When u let even one off it’s nightmare. Also sometimes there are more than one amraam flying towards me so I tend to pop 20 chaff just to make sure nothing happens.
Definitely not possible. I tried once doing a sort of test. On average in a notch 10-15 chaff have around 80% effectiveness when fired consecutively, any less is extremely inconsistent at most ranges. Against MICA even less so. Unless it’s 35km upwards.
that 77 1 is still garbage compared with the aim 120
- Faster time to target
- Pulls more Gs at short to medium range
- Su-30 can carry 2-3x more R-77-1 than most can carry in AMRAAMs
- Su-30 has the second best radar in game by quite a margin
Still sounds like a skill issue to me.
2-3x more missles means jack shit if they are uselses.
Clueless take at best.
Here, take a look for yourself
At that distance no missile is a real threat, you can fly like nothing until it is at 10km of you, launch a missile to the enemy and go for the notch.
