9Ms and Aim 120s are viable for close range fighting, as long as you’re not trying to hit extreme last minute shots. And the radar for the Rafale on the current live server is definitely not better due to the IRST bug.
As for the FM, I’m not going to speak too much with the Hornet’s since it isn’t out yet and I haven’t played with it enough.
How does the hornet actually stack up against something like a EFT or Rafale? has anyone tested this out thoroughly? The only videos i’ve seen are of this one guy, and he the other guy he’s 1v1’ing seems to be terrible at the game
So you either want to use your flight model to fight up close, or you want to use your missiles at mid range, However you’ll be outperformed in either.
Having used both the Rafale radar on live and 18C late radar on the dev, I very much prefer the Rafale radar any day of the week.
It get’s clapped, any day of the week.
Tough to say since as you mentioned, 1v1s will not be indicative of RB match performance, so this will be discovered over the course of a month or so on live.

The Aim 120 will be superior to the MICA at mid range engagements, The F-18’s FM is once again, unreleased, and I haven’t played with it enough to tell it’s similarities to the Rafale, I want to say it’s going to be Gripen Adjacent, although only time will tell.
Tbh I think people are overplaying it’s BVR performance, or lack therof, things like Gripens can still do BVR, and you don’t need to be a Strike Eagle to successfully hit early game launches, Now the radar is def unfinished so that is likely a contributing factor, so really we need to wait for the live server.
Yeah which means it can also still be nerfed. As of now I see as many people say that it’s overperforming as I see people saying that it’s underperforming.
It’s also hard to be a Gripen adjacent in the current meta when the Hornet flight performance is equal or likely even worse than the EFT/Rafale. The Gripen was something else meta wise because it’s flight performance was just miles better than it’s opposition.
It’s not that it can’t (especially with the amount of missles it has) its just that i assume that it wouldn’t match up against something like a Eurofighter, which can go mach 1.6, launch, and instantly notch out. And yes, even though something like a Gripen CAN BVR I’m assuming less effecient than more close quarters fighting.
As in adjacent to the Gripen, the one we have now, in terms of FM.
Or buffed, or both in some areas where realistic, when it is unfinished it is subject to change, and a live launch too weak or too strong might beget more changes as is typical.
Wouldn’t the Gripen FM be better than the hornet? Considering how they gave AOA keys to most toptiers
The hornet does fine against the majority of jets, it does not, I repeat DOES NOT, need to go toe to toe against the EFT or Rafale, you are pointing at the best 1v1 jets and saying “why doesn’t mine do that” while every other jet in your bracket is also losing against those jets in a 1v1. you have to take in account that 1v1s never happen unless you are in a 1v1 group or community, real games is missile spam the simulator, which the F18 has 12 of them so it’ll do fine I promise.

It’s probably still the best due to the Su30Sm getting dunked on with nerfs throughout the dev server, it’s basically a Su27 again just with a 10 second window to turn more and bleed all it’s speed to slowly fall down to the ground, so in other words. it’s a cow like the other top tier Russian Jets
I knew the su30 FM was going to be bad, so the only thing i’m slightly concerned about are the r77-1, which, knock on wood, might be nerfed on release
I expected it to be better than the Su27 just because the thrust vectoring but the one thing it had going for it got nerfed, and knowing how much people are complaining about the 77-1, It will more than likely get nerfed, even though it’s already worse at BVR than the Aim120 is haha
