I have seen far too many good parts of the game ruined by whiners in all game modes in the now 10 years I have been playing War Thunder.
It is overdue to intentionally ruin the whiners instead. Eventually they will cry themselves dry and grow a set. Like what happened with the Yak-9K - it still works just as well as it did before, and will continue to do so even if the BR goes up further. The people whining about the 9K eventually cried themselves to sleep, slept on it, picked up their nearest SPAAG or Fighter, and took matters into their own hands.
THAT is how the game should approach “balancing.” If people complain, give them the tools to help themselves with instead of nerfing the thing being cried about. Then if they choose not to use said tools, they only have themselves to blame.
I am aware, but maps take time to fix. We have seen too many instances of “temporary” changes being made permanent due to snail’s limited attention span.
In general, it seems as if the Snailgorithm is adding up total air and tank kills together for calculating SPAAG “effectiveness.” This means it takes a whole lot less actual effectiveness to lead to an AA going up. That is the overly punishing part that I think needs adjusting.
One of the many things I would change about all SPAAG is giving crews a default lead indicator with limited maximum range (1.5km), even if they do not have radars. Based on the existing “rangefinding” crew skill, it’s the crew estimating the range to the aerial threat in question.
Okay yeah I confused that one - it’s Czech, isn’t it?
As we both have already said - this boils down to both a map issue and also light vehicles not generating much if any spall when penetrated. It could also perhaps even be just a simple mistake you made, as aren’t all BMPs really loud? In the situation you describe it sounds like you could have heard him coming at considerable distance.
Also, SPAAGs like the L/62 ANTI II, M19A1, Crusader AA Mk.1, Whirbelwind, Ostwind, ZSU-37, Italian M42, So-Ki, Lvkv 42, and others are anything but “very mobile.”
Hell, even the Coelian currently being complained about as FoTM is for all practical purposes no more mobile than a KV-1, if not less so given the bad reverse.
Now cases like the R3 T20, BTR-ZD, Leo 40/70, yeah, those are hilariously mobile.
I don’t see the problem with it - if people think CAS is such a demon plaguing the mode, then why wouldn’t those very same whiners want to see broad use of SPAAGs take hold? Oh wait, they’re hypocrites.
We have seen for years how average players will use them. It’s long overdue to stop deluding ourselves thinking we’ll one day “convince” the average player to use SPAAG “correctly.”
If they can kill tanks, they get used, and some will then inevitably be in position to shred planes when opportunities permit.
If they cannot kill tanks, then they either don’t get used at all, or get used incorrectly to the point where they feed CAS free kills more often than they kill CAS.
The only thing Snail does well is adding new vehicles - I am well aware of the gap in the UK tree here.
Copy-paste Vulcan time, amirite?
