Here is a suggestion for adding a new aerial map allowing the recreation of a historical event, the Falkland Islands.

Historical review :
The Falklands War was a ten-week undeclared war between Argentina and the United Kingdom in 1982 over two British dependent territories in the South Atlantic: the Falkland Islands and its territorial dependency, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. The conflict began on 2 April 1982, when Argentina invaded and occupied the Falkland Islands, followed by the invasion of South Georgia the next day. On 5 April, the British government dispatched a naval task force to engage the Argentine Navy and Air Force before making an amphibious assault on the islands. The conflict lasted 74 days and ended with an Argentine surrender on 14 June, returning the islands to British control. In total, 649 Argentine military personnel, 255 British military personnel, and three Falkland Islanders were killed during the hostilities.

This conflict is one of the last conflicts which saw waves of attackers bombing objectives and dogfighting between aircraft

Geography :
Both islands have mountain ranges, with the highest point in the archipelago being Mount Usborne, 705 meters, on East Falkland. There are also marshy plains, mainly in Lafonia, in the southern half of East Falkland. Almost the entire territory is used as a grazing area for sheep.
This map will present a type of terrain that is not yet in play, in fact none of the current maps are made up of moors, in addition, the relief of the Islands would allow different game strategies allowing you to dodge radars in high Br

This map would be between 200 and 250km across, allowing development of the game in varied areas and the addition of a large number of objectives

  1. For Realistic Battle :

For battles in realistic mode, numerous divisions of the map are possible, moreover the diversity of terrain makes it possible to easily implement the different objectives present in this type of battles (convoy of vehicles, bases to destroy, casemates, etc… )
Naval targets could also be added, particularly in the strait area, allowing certain aircraft to take advantage of their specific weaponry for attacking ships.

  1. For Simulator Battle :

For battles in simulator mode, the map should be fully used, allowing development of the game over the entire territory of the Falklands, just like realistic battles, objectives can be placed in various locations on the islands.

For waves of AI vehicles : The Falklands War saw Western equipment clash, it would therefore be wise to create waves of vehicles corresponding to the forces present during this conflict. The AI vehicles for the team spawning in the West (equivalent to Argentina) would be Camberras for the bombers, A-4 Skyhawks for the ground attackers, and Mirage IIIs for the escorts. For the opposing team’s AI vehicles, this would be Buccaneer for bombers, Harrier Gr3 for attackers, and Sea Harrier for escorts. Port defense and attack missions, similar to those present on the Denmark map, would also be possible with AI ships.

In Addition : The Falklands War is particularly known for the loss of ships from both belligerents, so it would be interesting to have naval targets on the map. These targets could be freighters present on each side of the map, destroyers, frigates and battleships serving as escorts. Historically, only the English had an aircraft carrier, however it would be preferable to have an aircraft carrier for each team.

The little extra : During this conflict, one type of vehicle particularly stood out, making it possible to transport troops, attack vehicles and even boats: helicopters. It would be great to be able to play in a helicopter on this map, especially in aerial battles, because it would add a lot of realism and dynamism.

Pro :

  • Creation of a historic theater of operations in which planes already in the game distinguished themselves
  • Possibility of dividing the global map into different small maps allowing you to have missions for different battle modes
  • Possibilities to create maps of tank battles and naval battles with the terrain already present

Con :

  • New terrain type that needs to be created entirely
  • The entire map is slightly larger than those currently in game

You might have seen this thread?:

They had 2 :-)

And if the torpedo technician on the ARA San Luis (or the German torpedo QC engineer) would have done his job better, none of them would have entered the battle. The RN admitted that their invasion fleet would have returned to the UK if the had lost one of them…

Why? Long story

Depending on which still available sources you wanna believe it was either human error by Argentinian torpedo technicians or a production failure of the German SST-4 torpedo which led to malfunctions - saving most likely the HMS Invincible on their way to the islands.

Invest some time in research - the web is mostly cleansed, but you find here and there some claims that the HMS Invincible got torpedoed, some say 3, others say 8 torpedoes were launched - all failed to hit or to explode. That these cheap subs were even able to infiltrate a US carrier group (2001) should give you at least a hint that the San Luis torpedo story might be true.

You see some discussions in the web claiming this is a hoax, but if you clean the web - it never happened. And have in mind - Argentina got their revenge with the “Hand of God” incident in 1986…

In fact, no

Yeah I know, I just post it like that while thinking about how it could work on game so I only talk about one (English isn’t my mother tongue so I do what I can : I use a translator)

It was such a shame that the Sea Harrier FRS1 came with no “Falklands” themed update. A lot of interesting stuff could have been added themed around it. Like the Daggers and Pucaras

But yes, a Falklands map would be really interesting and unique

Can also be used as naval map

A well made Falkland map could be a good Map for all game modes, even down to tanks!

Large square would be 192x192km for a (even larger than currently available) Sim EC, or smaller square for 128x128km, down to a 4x4km (smallest square) tank map.

Naval could also easily be based off it.

+1, I want to shoot down Mirages and Super etendard in my Sea Harrier Here, honestly surprised it isnt already in game considering its one of the biggest UK conflicts since WW2

+1, would make for an interesting air, land and sea map

Yeah but thats not in suggestions unlike this thread.

Maybe you could add naval missions about WW1 Battle of the Falkland Islands

Goose Green could be a good GB map, flat but with numerous trenches to hide and narrow. Flanking can still be conducted but by hugging the coastline which should make one vulnerable since there are no trenches to hide from once spotted.

This aircraft carrier was recalled to its port to protect it after the torpedoing of the first Argentine vessel. So he didn’t see combat during the Falkland War, that’s why I didn’t count him.

This is the Way! = )

+1 Need very big air EC map for aircraft 10.7 ~ 13.0 and higher

I feel that now it’s not big enough for aircraft 11.0 ~ 13.0 in Air realistic battles because fighter aircraft carry external fuel tank and gaijin introduced active radar homing medium-range Air-to-Air Missile

Great size for Air simulator battles
