Suggestion No.83

G’day lads. BR’s can be hard to balance with some aircraft, as there can be aircraft that are terrible with performance, yet are in a higher BR due to having missiles or other powerful weapons, which can cripple the performance of said aircraft. This issue could be easily fixed by implementing a system where the BR of an aircraft gets decreased or increased depending on what loadout it has, which is what I’m suggesting :)

Example:

More detailed explanation:

Spoiler

As y’all know, there can be problems balancing certain aircraft with powerful weapons, but the aircraft itself being the opposite. This could be seen with players reaction when the A-10 or Su-25 got added, as both had good missiles for its BR, but the aircraft themselves were terrible due to being sluggish.

These are just 2 out of many examples, all of which could be fixed with a system that adds a dynamic Battle Rating system. If you equip strong weapons, in this case capable air to air missiles (not counting things like Aim-9B’s or worse) or capable ground attack weapons, your aircraft will stay at the BR it is at for balance. However, if you don’t have said weapons, and only have things like dumb bombs and whatnot, it can go to a maximum of 1 BR lower compared to it’s original BR.

Additionally, this system can avoid filler aircraft whose only difference is that they dont have those powerful weapons, which spares players from getting more RP to get the vehicle they want affected by this proposed system.

Limitations:

Spoiler

Now of course, you can see some areas where such a system can be negative aside from positive areas, like for example early F-104’s going to 8.3 because “they dont have missiles”, but if you’ve read the detailed explanation, this system should only affect aircraft whose weapons are actually effective (so no, removing things like Aim-9B’s or R-3S will not grant a full on 1 BR lower compared to the original aircraft).

For now, I think it would be best to have maximum 1 BR lower

Unsure areas on what could also be changed:

Spoiler

I did also think of something like removing 2 or so missiles of an aircraft could grant it 0.3 BR lower compared to the original BR, but at the same time, some aircraft can still be too powerful at this lower BR (even if some missiles are removed).

If you have any idea on how this could be more balanced (or should not be added), then feel free to say so in the replies :)

Thanks a lot for reading! If you have any feedback, then feel free to share them in the replies! As always, have a good day :)

Yes and only so i can beat the crap out of american CAS mains at low tier with an even more powerful spitfire

Fully agree. The Buccaneer S.2B is one of these aircraft (Yes I know I’ve been complaining about it for a while but it’s really egregious).

The S.2B is exactly the same as the S.2 only heavier and with 90 large CM dispensers. The S.2B in an ARB game should not be 10.7 when it is carrying a full bomb load. It should be 9.0 and given an air spawn. When it has 2 AIM-9L’s or 3 Martel’s I do agree it should be it should be 10.3 but not 10.7 and especially without an air spawn.

only for missile equipped aircraft. i understand that mods do affect the FM for lower tier aircraft but it isnt to the same degree missiles affect combat performance for the most part.

This is meant for weapons only, hence loadouts. Didn’t state about mods

your right i just think of mods and loadout options as basically the same thing, every other time ive heard ideas like this its about the stock grind

+1 all the way then

It is easy to implement by adding enable/disable checkbox for AAMs modifications, which will automatically block affected loadouts

could work for ground as well for certain vehicles (such as the LAV-AD, for example) +1

Though I guess that would kinda be its own system since thats a mod and not a loadout

+1, I’d honestly go further and say the same thing for ground and equipment you’ve researched.
Example Mars 15 without rangefinder would sit at 8.0 meanwhile the one with would sit at it’s normal br.

I think a BR modification like that it will improve the game greatly !!
And it is really easy to implement.
It won’t fix balance 100% , but it will help a lot… and most of the times , depending on the armament you pick, you’ll find a BR that the vehicle will perform.

And it has its place in both Air , Ground and Navy…

Definitely support this idea, not just for jets with their sometimes insane multirole loadouts, but also for many props as well. For example, the F6F-5 gets three individually-dropping 1000lb burgers, while the SB2C-4 gets either a single 1000lb, a single 2000lb, or one Naval Mine-Bomb. Yet the Hellcat, which has also better speed, better climb rate, better acceleration, similar roll rate, and far more ammunition sits at a much lower BR of 3.3 than the Helldiver at 4.0. Sure the Helldiver is technically more maneuverable, but that only helps if the opponent is dumb enough to turn with you…

However, how would you solve potential abuse of this system regarding ability to swap loadouts on the runway? Currently in Air AB/RB/SB you can switch loadouts on the runway as needed - I can already see people queueing with a low-BR dumb bomb only option and swapping to guided missile/guided bomb spam once the match begins.

+10 YES PLEASE. I cannot overstate the significance of this addition to aviation in particular but it should be selective and be made in consideration with the particular aircraft’s performances, stuff like the F104A shouldn’t see a BR increase when equipping it’s missiles, but simultaneously, things like the SAAB-105 shouldn’t see strategic bombers that are nothing but defenseless against it’s missiles (although I am of the opinion of the bombers moving down rather than the attackers moving up in this case). This also helps out the CAS balance in lower and even higher tiers cause it would give relevance to taking smaller payloads relative to their heavier ordinance and thus makes their usage relevant as an usable option and not just for a lower spawn point cost. I also imagine that in the case of equipping a loadout that would lower the br of the respective aircraft that you’d be able to, in the case of an uptier, take the loadout appropriate for the br anyway whilst losing the ability to do so if the battle rating is indeed lower than the respective set of what armaments’ limits have been set to. I want to brainstorm this further.

Yes, but…

I think it should be selectively used only where it would make a signficant and notable difference in BR (for example going from 2 to 4 9Ls for the FRS1 wouldnt be enough to justify it as that is only a 0.3 BR difference but FRS1e going from 9Ls to 9Gs would) and secondly, aircraft (and maybe tanks too) should only have 2 BRs. Its hard enough to get them to balance aircraft properly with only 1 BR each, but multiple would be impossible for both them and I think us as players.

I would implement it with a simple toggle in the mods window. Enabled or Disable “advanced” weapons. That way the BR is decided in the hanger and not in the match

This could be like having an A-10 with 9Ls and without 9Ls

or

Harrier Gr7 with 9Ls and with 9Ms

etc etc

Its clean, its simple and it limits the degree at which this could very quickly become a messy balancing nightmare.
