Personally, I actually think premiums should be mostly copypaste with cosmetic changes and maybe some smaller unique bits (the AMRAAM test F-14 is a great example) but not something totally unique. This is especially true since balancing premiums is something of a delicate situation (lets be honest, if they say punted 2S38 to 13.0, they’d be review bombed to oblivion by the past 2S38 buyers), and keeping them mostly similar to TT vehicles means you can use the TT vehicle BRs as a basis for balancing them.
Truly unique vehicles should be event grinds, as a reward for doing it. (Although eventually there should be something of a repeat cycle over the very long run.)
As to more simple copy pastes to “fill holes” - the logic of where to grab what for whom seems totally bizarre. Modern JP at this point is turning into some ASEAN combo tree - you should not be bragging that there’s a Type 10, Leopard 2, and T-84 all side by side in one tree for ‘varied playstyles’. At this level of blending why not just dispense with national trees in general and go full arcade style pick whatever you want for a lineup?
(IMHO, all JP needed for filling their modern day holes was to have SK, but apparently that’s too ‘controversial’ - so they’ll just put US stuff in the CN tree & spread poor Singapore out across ten morbillion trees.)
Slightly better at best. It still gives this “but its old stinky m60” feeling at the end of the day. Magach hydra is only diamond from that dirt pile that can give you interesting gameplay. Cause it has 2 hydra blocks on top of generic patton base and l7 cannon. Almost nothing has smth like that. Only it and lavad at 10.0.
I understand these additions in general and usually have less issues with duplicate vehicles than other players. Most of the time I believe I’d rather have a vehicles I don’t want to play in game than to not have a vehicle in game I do want to play.
Personally I believe there is ways to improve how these vehicles are added and how players interact with them though. There have been some suggestions for features that could make these vehicles feel less like a chore and more like something players can actually appreciate:
In both of these suggestions, while the vehicles themselves are the same, they get cheaper the more you have played the same vehicle across the rest of the game. This actually gives them a very useful place, where while you don’t get this new gameplay experience other vehicles might bring, you instead get a vehicle that can quickly fill a lineup and make the transition from one rank to another feel smoother.
I hope something like this can be considered.
I’d also like to link my subtree rework suggestion while we’re at it and talking about subtrees. Not the same issue here, but it can help solve a lot of other issues and I’d always appreciate anyone who reads through it and maybe helps by leaving some feedback, criticism or ideas for improvement.
I’m sorry but it isn’t difficult, Gaijin was doing well until recently on this. Lets look at some examples:
Tiger II sla.16: A tech tree tiger II but with a diferent, more powerful engine and some added armour on the turret side, basically the same vehicle but with minor changes that made it unique without beig overpowered.
AMX / AMX-A1: Here we have the same airframe, but the premium version has 2 DEFAs instead of a 20mm vulcan and has access to the MAA-1 Piranhas and a more diverse (not better) ordnance. Again different enough to be interesting but not overpowered, but Gaijin decided to put the premium one on e higher B.R. for no reason, wich made the premium version effectively worse than the tech tree version (why tho???).
Leopard 2A4M: basically a regular 2A5 without DM53 at a lower B.R (very fair).
I could list more, but hopefully you got the idea. it isn’t difficult to manage, you (gaijin) have been doing it for quite some time.
Now, look at the “new” premiums:
Alpha Jet A (JaboG 41): Same Aplha Jet from the tech tree with a warthunder live skin
M60A1 Predator: Same M60A1 RISE (P) from the regular tech tree, but with an AI generated skin
Puma u14: Same Puma VJTF from the tech tree with some (literal) trash glued to it.
THEN WHY THE F-14D IS A PREMIUM??? Not to mention other vehicles like: F-117, MiG-25. I know, they are not premiums, but they are also not on the regular tech tree, so the issue persists
This was simply bad game design, Israel didn’t need to be a separate tech tree as it has less than half the vehicles of other nations (it starts at 6.0 B.R). Japan has quite a number of unique vehicles, mostly WWII era.
But the solution is quite simple: disolve Israel into a USA-France sub tree, and create a “Pacific” tech tree with vehicles from Southeast Asia countries (Japan, Singapore, Phillipines, Thailand…). Just like we are asking for South America.
But in the end, this doesn’t matter, because is very clear that THE COMUNITY DOESN’T WANT MORE VEHICLES, IT WANTS MORE GAME MODES. What use is a shiny new vehicle if all I got to do with it is:
-Spawn
-Drive to A/B/C
-Die
-Repeat
I’ll make my position clear: I personally have no problem with copy-pasted additions. I actually like nations such as Hungary, Indonesia, the Benelux countries (where I’m from), and the upcoming Greece subtree. These countries have very few of their vehicles represented in any form of media or games, so it’s great to see them included in this game.
That said, there is still a problem. Nations like France have received very few domestic additions over the past few updates. For example, France has not received a single new domestic aircraft or tank in 2026. In my opinion, that shouldn’t be the case.
I think all Benelux vehicles and other subtree vehicles should be added to the game, whether they are copy-paste or not, but the main nation should still be the one receiving the majority of the content. A better approach, in my opinion, would be something like a 60/40 split, where most new additions still go to the main tree while subtree vehicles also receive a fair share of attention.
This would help give the main nation the content it deserves without ignoring its subtrees. It would allow both the main tree and its subnations to grow at the same time, rather than having one come at the expense of the other. In turn, this would reduce the frustration some players feel toward subtree additions, as domestic content would continue to arrive alongside them.
How about not having 3-4 updates per year with vehicles, but 2-3 larger updates concentrating on QoL and bugfixing and 1-2 with vehicles? Maps are still pretty bad, game is filled with bugs (smaller and bigger) and every update sadly adds more and more of them instead of fixing well known and existing ones. We have been playing the same type of matches for 12 years now. Sorry, no. There actually used to be more objectives and match types in the past.
We really don’t need 40+ new vehicles every update. Once again - the players have been playing almost the same game for 12 years now.
Sadly, the game has turned from being immersive to having to face the same tanks (or planes) over and over again. Few years in the back, when playing eg. Germany a player knew he would go against USSR or USA. Now? I start a 11.3 USSR match and have to fight against… T-80s and T-90s. I start a match at 10.7 Germany and have to fight against… Leopards. That’s just not it. For me, the best option would be to roll back almost all copy paste vehicles in the trees - especially those where you have added similar, but original vehicles (eg. M44/M55 should dissapear from German TT since we now have a Hummel). You did something like that in the past - with Panther II, Tiger 105 and FPz 341 - it is possible and it’s a good solution imho.
As for premium copy pastes - I personally prefer those, rather than having unique ones hidden behind a paywall (looking at you T58, T54E1/2 and sadly, much much more…)
That’s very nice, but I gotta as: If the players say “we don’t want that, do this instead”, will Gaijin concede or just roll through like nothing ever happened (like the F-14D situation)?
Because if the players continue to be ignored, than it’s not comunication, is just information…
A nice post, I always enjoy seeing more open communication between the snail and us players.
I think this is a fair solution, as I’m someone who has played every tech tree (and have all but 2 to top tier now, as I’m still working on them) and play the game more for vehicles I personally love versus the newest shiniest thing. I love T72s, so anytime I see a new slightly different variant of t72, t90, etc. announced I get super excited for it.
Even in a case where it’s an identical tank, just with different camo schemes for an export nation I’m a huge fan, because it generally means I get to play a tank I love in a new more diverse lineup. For example 9.3 Italy with the leopard 1a5, OF-40, and the Hungarian T-72 is super cool in my opinion.
I also expert crew every vehicle I play (which is probably close to a thousand at this point since I have ~2100 vehicles), and that gets incredibly expensive, especially with top tier premiums. Because of this I’m a huge fan of duplicates like the F-16AM because it allows me to play something I already love, but get significantly more silver lions per hour (and research new additions quickly). I think these are great because the world economy makes it incredibly tough for people from specific regions to have disposable income for gaming, so it means I’m happy with a plane I enjoy; and simultaneously it’s not locking something unique away from people who can’t spend much money on the game.
I understand the people who dislike the current system are significantly louder, as they’re more likely to discuss it, but I hope you all remember there’s many players like myself who love the current pattern of vehicles you add!
edit: Also, please gib a Vietnamese T90-S to China :D
So the problem lies here:。
when exactly will the so-called “in development” content be implemented? It can’t just be left unspecified and without any kind of “timetable” for players to look forward to, right?
You’re right, aren’t you, Leopard 2 PSO with its D armor package? How long has this thing been sitting in the ISSUE tracker as feedback, but has it actually been implemented in the game?
Three subtrees seem to be what they’re going for, like Thailand/Indonesia/Malaysia or South Africa/India/Australia, this really shouldn’t be any different.
Please, please, read the full changelog, not only Major Announcement.
Click this and start to scroll. Vehicle part is only small fraction of whole update. The rest is wall of text with bug fixes and other changes.
Sadly British Gazelles were never fully armed with anything meaningful for the game. It was initially considered, but sadly there’s no evidence they had the same compatibility as the French variants. And no evidence they had anything other than just SNEBs.
