It seems like there are plenty of actual pilots and aircraft controllers that disagree; As well as a good majority of players stating it negatively affects their gameplay in this thread. we’ve already lost a good majority of servers/players over the last week. But I mean if you think it’s better sit on your throne and say let them eat cake see how that works out for the sim community. Hint: it’s not gonna be great.
Sorry, but have you actually read the whole thread and all my replies (including the one where I state that the best way -in my opinion - would be something between today’s state and the state before the patch), or did you just read my description of what I experience IRL and jump on that?
Even I say it affects gameplay negatively, and that the system should better be improved.
And I stand by what I said: depending on LIGHTING condition one DOES struggle to detect an aircraft even at close proximity, no matter if you are a pilot, air traffic controller or just an aviation enthusiast.
My guy I responded to that and scrolled up and edited it and was about to edit again right before you responded🤔😔😅😅 the let them eat cake might not be valid anymore but the rest of it still is.
Haha, oh yes, the dynamics of internet forums…
I also constantly need to scroll up and down to remember what I wrote. And why on Earth I wrote it at all or wrote it the way I did. = )
I recently started playing AirSim for the first time since maybe a few years ago when the useful actions crap originally ruined the economy. This has been my first time back in this mode since the economy changes earlier this year. In the meantime I had flown in DCS and when I first went there spotting was much harder than WT and that was even with the game or players giving constant bogey dope callouts to send me in the right direction.
I had also upgraded to a 4k monitor since the last time I played WT AirSim and thought maybe this was why I couldn’t see anything in the air including surveillance planes and attackers for the missions. Apparently I am not alone however based on this thread which makes me feel a bit better. Hopefully they do fix it because despite some people’s opinions, while it might be more realistic than what it was in the past, it is now UN-realistic in that the spotting and draw distance it too short!
I could even see this doing test flights looking for ground targets where they would pop in at the last second despite knowing exactly where they are supposed to be. This does need to be fixed.
Really frustrating, some testing practice flight and the ground vehicles don’t render over 3km at all if not zoomed in they are completely invisible
Thought the su-25 activated his cloak for a second.
Litterally Belkan Witchcraft
I hope they will fix this soon
I chased 2 sets of bombers through their entire run though the map and never spotted them once yesterday (Got shot down by AF AA) and I was in the grid at altitude the whole time (there were some clouds but it wasn’t storming).
Well, after the update I deactivated the new setting in postFx… and yeah its harder to see enemies far away… but there is a blantant bug in the draw distance at mid/close range, planes desapear, or pop up into existance, the only way to spot them when turning at mid/close range is to try to see the wing vapors of an invisible plane that when you zoom (at close rage) appears out of nowhere
This need to be fixed ASAP
I ended up submitting a bug report for this since I did not see a recent one on the issue.
https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder/i/AUNcynxuMUp8
Edit: Apparently there was another recent report - Community Bug Reporting System
Ah well, now they have two bug reports on it.
There are two ongoing issues.
The first one is that the plane render distance and how easy they are to see has been changed significantly. The second is that planes just randomly disappear at medium ranges. The first seems to be an intentional design decision while the second is a bug.
The whole entire reason that I play War Thunder Sim and not DCS because it is more pvp oriented and the time between engagements, especially in props, is much smaller.
In essence what the new spotting system does is make playing in props a lot more difficult and not in a good way. It doesn’t lead to better engagements or more variety…it just creates less of them.
On top of that it just adds another gap where hardware will play an even larger part in how well you do at sim. For me this creates a situation where I do not want to play anymore because an even greater amount of my time is spent just idly flying around. Also having to tune my eyes just to hopefully catch a glimpse of a plane just wears me out even sooner.
So good job I guess? The game is more “realistic” but now it’s also a lot less playable.
God this is horrible. I can’t believe it but I can spot aircraft better in DCS World than in War Thunder. This is coming from a person who has 2000ish hours on both games. Honestly I was hopeful with Gaijin adding in tasks for sim but then they took 5 steps back with this bug.
the thing that I find unbearable is not being able to see with the maximum zoom of the F-16 cameras what is happening on the battlefield, and identifying the enemies, staying out of the 18/20km AA range (obviously also from my engagement range ), because the game, despite having the settings at maximum, does not render objects at that distance, and to be able to see them I have to get closer and therefore enter the range of action of the AA, I find this absurd and devoid of tactics since those cameras are made specifically to be used that way
Other gift from Gaijin the last update - not only planes are invisible, but bases are become much harder to spot.
Game updated to version 2.29.0.70, I don’t see the changelog … no hope :'(
what do you need a changelog for when they put and modify what they want and certainly don’t tell us
So you feel like they care, even when, deep down, you know they don’t. A bit like that superficially attractive, but mean, selfish and psychopathic BF/GF you once had.
hey you just described my exes perfectly xD
In one of the bug threads a Gaijin employee mentioned there were some potential fixes in this latest update today so let’s hear from everyone if they’re working either here or in the bug thread. I’m still working so can’t test myself yet. Here is the employee’s post: Community Bug Reporting System
Edit: I’ve now tested this myself and don’t think anything has changed unfortunately.
