Draw distance after update

,

Hi,
I had trouble spotting before the update. Now its darn near unplayable. Im on a smaller screen with 68 year old eyes. Even got new glasses, but its near impossible to spot now.

It is no glasses issue. 😄
The damn planes just disappear completely.
Even 20 year old eyes wouldn’t see more

No, I can’t see (literally) any change either. Spent 30 mins in a Ki-200 on Moresby (scattered cloud, tops under 3km (bomber alt)) trying to find several bomber formations all in my grid or adjacent - allegedly. Never saw a thing. Waste of time; no event progress. ‘Luckily’ I’m caring less and less about the event partly because I just can’t get anywhere in air SB (unless I bomb, I suppose).

Similar last night on Dover (few clouds, lovely clear day, no clouds in the bomber orbit grid, D4). Eventually I did see a formation, but only when right on top of them and even then they disappeared when against the ‘special’ high contrast pixelated patches of sea.

Gaijin doesn’t seem to care about it. New nerf and new possibility for all the bomber pilots rushing to enemy airbase to drop bombs and premium planes asap to get enormous points

I played some hours today and I´m not sure if I just get used to it or if the visibility really got a bit better…

Visibility is a bit better after recent patch but planes still disappear based on zoom level and there are no longer any of the large dots at minimum zoom levels to vector you towards targets.

Overall it is harder to detect targets but Gaijin has at least made it a little easier to track targets that you have already detected.

Playing prop games that are half full still feels completely empty

It’s still freaking bad…

Thank you very much for the reply and the new attachment, we are working on further fixes for the issue. Please stay in touch if we need any more info.

This is our #1 priority issue at the moment and we are looking into it and working on the solution.

Thank you all very much for the info, you’ve all been very helpful.

What is so difficult about reverting the changes to the condition pre-Sons of Atilla?

It becomes more apparent that Gaijin has short memory. Do they think that people will not be capable of organizing again?

it’s probably new tech they’re implementing that is required for new stuff they want to add. In other words they might have a need for this new tech that fucked everything to work. So, they are trying to fix it instead of going back, which would only alleviate it short term.

I may be completely wrong, but this might explain it if it were true.

nice

Cool

Hi,
Is this the kind of bug that might be fixed in the wip client?
Thanks

In particular, the visibility in the EC simulator is so bad that the bombers are simply impossible to capture! By now, the servers have been overwhelmed. It’s okay because I have an Il-2, DCS simulator, and I won’t even play with it until this is fixed!

Just wanna add my 2 cents here: what ever Gaijin’s planning, I hope they keep the black dots pre Sons of Atilla Patch. Another commentor said it very well, they allowed us to vector ourselves onto targets, both player and AI, by our selves.

I believe this is very important for War Thunder, especially how I enjoy it best, as a casual sim experience. I also play IL-2 and DCS, but in those two games, usually the difficult spotting is offset by the availability of a GCI, both Human and AI, to get you within reasonable distances of targets. War Thunder has no such capability, and in my opinion it doesn’t need it. The black dots were perfect, it allowed you to quickly find engagements, but still required you to IFF targets visually and through radar.

What sets Air Sim apart for me from DCS or IL-2 is again the casual gameplay. I’m still able to get into skilled dog fights with other players, but I don’t need to mess around with BRA calls to a GCI or anything like that. Removing those long range black dots remove that, and would severely hinder the casual experience and require Gaijin to come up with their own AWACS or GCI solution, which I’d be down for in the future, but in a way that retains that ease of use.

I think that it is even worse for players (like me) that like to play only WWII scenarios: there the eye-reconaissance is the only thing you can rely upon. Today, in different moments, I was in the same sector (square) of:

  • Enemy reconaissance plane
  • Enemy attackers
  • Enemy players during a air superiority confrontation
and I couldn’t see them since I was practically colliding with them!
The worst was the air superiority thing, it becomes a matter of sheer luck and not of situational awareness (IMHO)

Clouds. Anywhere clouds. At 800m to prevent you bombing bases, at 3000m to prevent you seeing the reconnaissance plane, at 6000 just in case…

Assuming the rubbish spotting isn’t intentional in the first place, I suspect Gaijin are happy with it for just this reason. I know they’re trying to fix the current situation, but remember, even with the previous black dots you still tended to lose visual just as you were getting close enough for it to really matter.

When I started flight sims obviously I got bounced and shot down often enough, but by the time I’d been flying Il-2 (46) for a while I can say I virtually never got surprised unless already engaged in some way. It simply didn’t happen for weeks or more on end, as I’d learned to always be looking out. I don’t think I look out any less in WT, but on so many occasions I’ve been shot down from behind just seconds after checking 6: on a few occasions I’ve even been looking back straight at nothing, only for tracer to come out of the ‘nothing’ a couple hundred metres away.

When you look at so many other game mechanics you really do suspect Gaijin are more than happy with anything that randomises results.

I can confirm after playing simulator 5.7-6.7 that spotting is still totally ruined. I was trailed from an A zone ( mind you that I check 6 frequently ). Only when tracers were fired and the guy missed did I have any visual indicator of the hostile in my proximity.
Spotting / draw distance is ruined. The AA on the runway was totally useless, it is ruined. Gaijin s&%t the bed and I am done lying in it.
