Disclaimer: This only thread provides a short overview and is still work in progress
Very short history:
The CV 90 family of (primarily) infantry fighting vehicles has its roots in the 1980s, when the Swedish army decided on an increase in the level of mechanization of its forces to still remain effective after cutting down its size. The current in-service Pbv 302 could not satisfy the new requirements, so a new project for a vehicle capable of high strategic and tactical mobility, attacking both ground vehicles and aircraft, with a high degree of armor protection, low maintenance costs, and growth potential was initiated.
Since no vehicle on the international market could satisfy the Swedish requirements sufficiently at that time, it was decided to develop the new vehicle family “in-house”.
Between 1984 and 1990, seven prototypes with varying armament and systems were built and trialed harshly. Finally, in 1991, the first series production of the CV 90 began. Since then, it has been continuously upgraded, and many different versions for many different nations (for example: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, Switzerland, and Finland) have been built.
Information about the swedish 40mm gun system
Variants in game:
The earliest:
Armed with a 40mm 40/70Bc and part of the fourth production batch, ordered in 1994.
It features improvements to the FCS, running gear, as well as crew comfort (like an air conditioning system).
The beefiest:
In 2000, the swedish army requested to give the CV 90 a higher degree of armor and mine protection, after multiple tests it was decided to equip it with an add on armor package made by the german company IBD Deisenroth Engineering. This package includes passive armor for both hull and turret, mineprotection for the belly and a spall liner. For this package to be fitted the coaxial MG and smoke grenades were moved to the turret roof. A new thermal imaging system the LIRC manufactured by FLIR Systems Incorperated. Laser protection filters were added to all optics and the carrying complement was reduced to six soldiers.
CV9040/56
In 1999 a CV9040A which was previously fitted with the Lemur system was used for a demonstrator which featured a launcher for 2 RBS-56 BILL ATGMs. This test was quite succesful but the launcher was never adopted for mass production.
Lvkv 9040C
A Lvkv 9040 upgraded to the C standard and fitted with a PS-95 radar on the turret roof wich operates in the 3.3-3.4 GHZ waveband has a operational range of 15km and track 6 targets simultaneously. It also features LuLIS for IFF and airspace monitoring.
It should have a crew of 7 (in game its 5)
CV90120
Unveiled in 1998 and fitted with a RUAG 120mm L50 gun. Since then it has been modified and modernized multiple times.
CV90105
A CV90 fitted with the Cockerill XC-8 105HP turret. It features an Autoloader, new sights and a laser warning system.
CV9030FIN
Like the Swiss Schützenpanzer 2000 the Finnish is a variation of the CV90 Mk.II. It is armed with a 30mm Bushmaster II/Mk44 with a 7.62 PKT MG as a coax. The hull and turret is fitted with MEXAS passive add on armor made by IBD Deisenroth Engineering and it features a six barrel smoke grenade launcher system developed by KMW.
Our variant is a command CV9030K1.
CV9035DK/NL
Both vehicles are CV90 Mk.III variants armed with the 35mm Bushmaster III. But they feature different protection kits with the NL having RoofPRO and SidePRO while the DK has Mexas 2 (which should give the DK frontal protection according to STANG Lvl.5). The dutch version also features an LWS.
CV90 Mk.IV
Latest Version featuring SidePRO protection. (but for some reason no spall liner)
It is armed with a 30mm Bushmaster and Spike LR II ATGMs. It currently is incomplete, more on that:
