Custom flags functionality

I couldn’t help but notice how in the trailer, the CM-34 was the only vehicle that did not have its country of origin mentioned, and in its devblog, only the words “China” and the “Chinese tech tree” are mentioned.

Cringe

I posted on the Chinese language forum (because im from the ROC), their stance mostly resides on the fact that by including both ROC and PRC, would contradict the “1 China policy”, and for legal use of the ROC flag within the PRC, it needs to be marked with “1911~1949” but by applying that for Jet modern era, it would break the legal use.

If the ROC flag gets added then so should the proper German flag from 1935

First of all, welcome to the english forum, we’d love for you to stick around.

Secondly I’ve given you a like in your post on the chinese forums and am sorry you’ve had to see such vitriol from certain users.

Thirdly, the “one china policy” is, as the name might imply, a policy, specifically a political policy. Gaijin, not being based or headquartered in the PRC doesn’t have any need to follow this policy (EDIT: and infact should be ignoring it if they were truly serious about being apolitical) and by doing so, they inadvertently pick a side.

An even handed approach would be allowing the use of both flags.

It’s a bug, today’s changenotes say that flag changes are supposed to be invisible to other players (lobby only) so they slipped up a bit here somehow and will almost certainly correct. Funny bug though.

But it is a historical game, so they are allowed to include multiple versions of even just one nation. For example there is only one unified Germany, yet multiple are included.

This could be, usually they are very cautious of legal use.

Personally I’d argue that since pre-1949 PRC uses the national flag despite not being a nation yet, having the ROC flag cannot in good faith be stated to equal a statement about their status as a nation. But I of course don’t know how this holds up to international law.

Then again, as Cpt_Duck said before, this shouldn’t apply to a company based outside of the PRC anyways, especially considering it is a political policy that is not unanimously agreed on internationally.

WT-CN maybe be affected?

Maybe it’s not a bug, and rather than displaying player selected techtree flags it displays the operator flags of their selected vehicles. That would actually be very useful to narrow down what vehicles others are using a bit better.

@Bruce_R1 every time you start typing, I think the Gaijin gods have blessed us and Smin is ready to give us an answer XD

It might be possible to add a regional censor, which would change the flag based on the region a player lives in.

The state it is in right now is as political outside of the People’s Republic of China as it would be for PRC if the flag was included there. So maybe the solution is simply to add it, but based on a players region.

Yep, bug.

Honestly, I’m very close to just making the bug report about the republic china name change to simply china. It not being mentioned in the changelog makes me think it’s a bug, and we’ve not heard a thing from stona.

Previous forum had custom avatars so that was never an issue. Just saying.

I like yor idea ,just make the PRC UI verision for China Player will esay

I just wonder how that will work in praxis. As to my knowledge Gaijin doesn’t have any servers in mainland China making a restriction through that impossible. Regional censor can be bypassed by a VPN and I have heard that a fair chunk of chinese are using one.

First of all, CN players would check if the English version matches.
Secondly, CN do purchase a lot so despite Gaijin is not a Chinese company, it will still find a way to please them while not affecting much on gameplay mechanics.
Thirdly, the “despite” is not true, in 2019, Gaijin entertainment was nearly incorporated by a Chinese company called GAEA founded in Beijing… showing that Gaijin does have a tendency to form close relationship with CN capitals, thus giving it another reason to avoid adding ROC flags.

Well surely that’s not gaijin’s problem? If you are using a VPN to access content that your country has blocked then surely you have only yourself to blame if use of this VPN allows you access to something you may find objectionable.
