  • Basic Description:
    • The BMPT Strazh, or ‘Sentinel’, is a modified T-64 that is designed to be an urban fire support vehicle developed by the Zhytomyr Armored Plant. First debuted in 2017 at the Arms and Security expo, the vehicle itself is designed on the chassis of the T-64 main battle tank, featuring the same armor and crew placement, engine, and drivetrain. The vehicle is equipped with Nizh-1M Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA) blocks that cover the frontal arc (including the LFP) and the side, all the way towards the engine compartment. The Nizh-1M ERA block significantly increases protection against both kinetic and chemical energy-based munitions, offering a 10-20% increase in protection over Kontact-5 ERA. The ERA itself was designed to fit in the older cannisters of Kontact-1, offering a logistical solution. Rather than use the T-64 turret, the BMPT Strazh features the ‘Duplet’ combat module which is armed with twin ZTM-2 30mm autocannons which are the Ukrainian version of the 2A42 autocannon. Both cannons can fire simultaneously or independently to save ammunition and continue sustained fire operations. Other equipment is two dual Barrier Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) launchers, for a total of four missiles, capable of firing the RK-2 ATGM which can penetrate up to 800mm of RHA behind ERA, a 30mm KBA-117 grenade launcher, and 2x coaxial KT-7.62mm machine guns. Electronic wise, the BMPT Strazh features 3rd-generation thermal imagers and laser rangefinder integrated into the ‘Duplet’ module through the Tandem-2-2 fire control system. The Gunner utilizes the Tandem-2-2 Electro-optical sight located between the two main guns while the Commander can also operate the main gun from his/her station utilizing an independent display. Currently, the Ukrainian Army nor any other military utilizes the BMPT Strazh and remains in prototype status with trials conducted in 2018.
    • The ‘Duplet’ module can substitute the RK-2 missile for Konkurs-M missiles.
    • In terms of ammunition, the ZTM-1 (2A72) and ZTM-2 (2A42) utilize the 30x165 cartridge which allows both cannons to use the same ammunition. The Precision Mechanic Plant in Western Ukraine launched serial-production of Soviet 30x165 ammunition including the 3UBR8 Armor Piercing Discarding Sabot round with Tracer (APDS-T) round, 3UBR6 Armor Piercing round with Tracer (AP-T) round, 3UOR6 High-Explosive Incendiary Fragmentation round with Tracer (F-T) and the 3UOF8 High Explosive Incendiary round (HEF-I).

  • In-game :
    • A true multi-mission platform, this T-64 variant is highly unique, featuring 4x ATGM’s, 30mm grenade launcher, and 2x ZTM-2 30mm autocannons that can absolutely tear apart low flying aircraft, helicopters, light tanks, and heavily armored main battle tanks. Not to mention, it is equipped with Nizh-1M ERA which offers superior protection against both KE and CE-rounds. This ERA protection continues across the side of the hull and the LFP, offering superb protection for the crew. Due to being a remote combat module, the crew compartment is below the turret which significantly increases survivability. One drawback is that the ‘Duplet’ Combat Module has low armor protection. While it is unmanned, the weak armor, especially in urban environments, could be disastrous for the BMPT ‘Strazh’, especially front Artillery Fragments, HE, or HEAT rounds. This won’t necessarily lead to a death, but increases the chances for an ammunition cookoff, leaving the player stranded with little-to-no ammunition. However, in the event of a successful hull penetration, it can cookoff the ammunition stowage for the 30mm around the Commander and Gunner. While it has the same mobility of the regular T-64BV due to no change in the engine, the vehicle does have an increase in acceleration due to the removal of the significantly heavier turret.

Ukraine has such a ridiculous amount of IFVs, would be one of the most awesome IFV lines in game

Do you know this tank has what generation of thermal imager optic?

I believe it’s 3rd-gen but I have to try and find the source. It’s been a minute. The Duplet Combat Module is equipped with a Tandem-2-2 Fire Control System, a modified version of the Tandem-2, that should be paired with a 3rd-gen KLW-1 Polish Thermal Sight. The Tandem-2 FCS is equipped on modernized Shkval-A Combat Modules which has a KLW-1 thermal sight which is seen with the BMP-1UM. The KLW-1 is also found on the T-64BV zr. 2017, T-80BV zr. 2018, etc.

Vehicle suggestion has been updated.

  • More information on Nizh-1M ERA, as well as a more in-depth description of coverage which includes the LFP and extended coverage around the crew compartment.
  • 3rd-generation Thermal Imagers due to the Tandem-2-2 fire control system.
  • Increase in BR due to a further breakdown of the vehicle.
  • Changed combat module name from ‘Doublet’ to ‘Duplet’.

Summary of vehicle:

  • Heavier armor protection with more ERA coverage to include more expansive protection on the side hull and LFP.
    • NOT Kontact-1 (K-1), this is Nizh-1M that uses the containers of K-1 and offers better protection than Kontact-5 (K-5). Protection ranges 10-20% better than K-5 against both HEAT and APFSDS-T rounds.
  • 2x ZTM-2 autocannons with 3UBR8 APDS.
  • A 30mm grenade launcher.
  • 4x RK-2 missiles with tandem-HEAT warheads for post-ERA penetration.
  • 3rd-generation thermal imagers.
  • Unmanned combat module.

+1, Are we getting a Ukrainian Tech-Tree anytime soon?

Likely not but we can hope 🤙

@HIMARS_Enjoyer has there been any use of the Duplet Combat Module by the UA?

Sadly if we do It’d most likely will be a sub-tree for USSR, but I’d rather have that then nothing.

No. I believe they decided to end the project and just store the prototypes and working modules in Ukraines MoD special storage facility
