Yeah this change is bad. The airfields are bugged or something, not plane specific.
Give this approach a try:
Tl:DW
- Fly at millitary/100% (or even afterburner towards airfield at ~0.5-1.0 km altitude (varies with aircraft). It’s OK to almost redline at this point to descend to altitude, ideally you’re at ~600 km/h though
- Throttle down after crossing runway treshold
- At half-way down the runway, turn right and pull hard at a 2-6G turn with power at 0%, airbrakes out and fully level (minimal altitude loss).
- Lose altitude to 500 until plane just about left runway
- Do another 180 degree turn managing power/airbrakes/flaps/gear/altitude as appropriate to avoid stalling out of your turn
- Done right, you touch down right as you completed the second 180 degree turn. Done right, you’re barely over stall speed with flaps down
- Apply brakes.
- Stop at about the same time as someone belly landing beside you
Added bonus: you’ve speed and altitude to evade someone trying to camp your airfield until the very last moment
It works like a charm with the F2H-2, F3H and F86-A5 in sim. F2H-2 and F3H can also use it for carrier landings with some modifications. It also works with F4U-4 and P-51 but props don’t need it as much.
Nah I have perfected Crash/Belly landing and I only use props cause they are more fun and require more skill.
Yeah, a bunch currently have 1-2, then they should have around 3-4, also yeah, brakes are kinda garbage, like, I want to smell the tarmac from my cockpit I’m breaking so hard.
I want to hear the plane being ground to nothing by the tarmac to make the ground crew life that much worse :)
It’s not hard to land on landing gear. It’s easier and more forgiving to land with gear than belly landing. It’s just slower. That’s why everyone belly lands. To save time.
as some people have said before, what if your gear gets ripped off in a fight lol
Well you don’t really have a choice anymore at that point.
yeah, your gear is gone? too bad combusts into flames after landing at 100kts
Did you get hit by a premium plane?
A while ago, I noticed, if I have to belly land my plane, after II got hit by a premium plane, there was no chance to perform a belly landing without dying. Even with the smoothest touch down, my plane magically exploded.
Looked like Gaijiin tried to make these guys feel better, getting easy kills.
Tell me you’ve never landed an F-16, F-15, MiG-29, or M2K before, without telling me.
try belly landing a Me 262 without destroying the engines. I have:) made it to where I only needed a rearm.
what does that even mean rofl
It will just kill you. I broke my gear while landing, I crashed into the ground I flew up like 10m and blew up. 100% real.
that is not true anymore. Airfields are now symetric.
GRB maps and SRB maps have the old airfield, so it’s still relevant.
The new airfields still have the same issue, but less so if you go the correct way.
I’ve been practicing with new sim controls in custom battles, so I’ve been crashing my planes a LOT on landings.
Observation: If you land with landing gear and perform too much of a navy style landing ™, you don’t explode even as your landing gear shatters into smithereens.
Might be worth considering as an alternative to belly flop landing?
Navy style landing is meant as a joke based on videos of carrier planes landing on runways, but basically it’s landing with a pretty high descent rate (in my case: enough to smash the gears of even my navy planes of F4U-4 and F2H-2 and F3H-2) and ~+15% over stall speed.) (descent rate is prolly like 10-15 m/s)
Plane also seems to stop nearly instantly after these.
I had no problem landing wheels-up on the carrier.
I have the same issue, sometimes its fine but most of the times its bugged out, gaijin please fix this issue
I mean you’re landing at anywhere from 260 to 410 kts… you could do this before without blowing up?
I believe the F-16 landing speed is under 200 kts, probably closer to 150.
Why are you doing this?
It’s faster to just land at a normal speed, it’s easy to bleed airspeed with a couple quick turns and just land, no need to do this - if your gear is damaged, you should land slower unless flaps are damaged but you’re landing at 3 times the normal landing speed with no gear…
I bet if you land wheels up at a normal landing speed you’ll all be just fine - the “bumps” are probably some physics glitch but as far as a simulation it works just the same as if you touched down at those speeds in those airframes you’d be smeared on the runway just the same.
TL:DR - It’s a skill issue.
