Australian & New Zealand Ground Forces Sub-Tree

Introduction
G’day and welcome to my suggestion for an Australian and New Zealand ground forces sub-tree. My dream is to have Australian/New Zealand trees implemented in War Thunder, obviously not as standalone tech trees since as you’ll see with this ground suggestion we don’t quite have the content to cover a standalone tree. But with a partner nation/region of which there are a few options we fit with, we can still offer a lot. Australia has numerous indigenous vehicles, and a lot of special/unique variants of overseas models. New Zealand will end up being largely copy paste from other tech trees, but for reasons I will mention later simply must be included with any Australian suggestion.
Australia’s first experiences with tanks came during WW1 operating British tanks for the British army, as at this time Australia (and New Zealand) were part of the British Empire. Post war, Australia sought to acquire tanks of its own, and in 1927 procured four Vickers Medium Mark II tanks. The following year, the Australian Tanks Corps was formed, which by 1941 had become the Royal Australian Armoured Corps. With the outbreak of WW2, a significant expansion was necessary, and with fears their overseas allies would not be able to supply armoured vehicles should Japan invade, and industry was established for Australia to build its own armoured vehicles. Thankfully invasion did not come to pass, and most of what Australia used in combat was imported or borrowed from the UK and USA, although many local modifications were commonplace. Australia continues to maintain a local defence industry, building some light vehicles of indigenous designs as well as local manufacture of imported designs.
The New Zealand Armoured Corps was formed during WW2 in 1942. Similarly, most of what they used was imported or borrowed from the USA and UK. A couple indigenous designs were proposed but never saw production. In present day, New Zealand does not operate any tanks, instead using wheeled IFVs.
Australia and New Zealand have participated in most major conflicts since the Boer War, often deploying their tanks in support of the efforts.
Ultimately Gaijin may/will implement trees as they see fit, my goal here is simply to suggest these nations as a tree, wherever they end up.

The Tree

I have tried my best to estimate the BRs of each vehicle, however the exact BR is not overly important here and is there to indicate general position in the tree. As with my previous suggestions this is primarily an Australian tree, New Zealand is included for reasons mentioned below, so most of their tanks have been used as premiums. However it’s also just to mostly represent what is able to be added. If implemented in the game we might see more tech tree NZ vehicles, or less of both depending on who they’re integrated with. For example, we’d have no need for an Australian Churchill VII if this was in the UK tree. Or maybe it becomes a premium with visual differences.

The Vehicles
I was going to provide a count of “unique” vehicles, then realized that’s much harder to quantify for ground vehicles. For example, Australian Grants had extra armour over the transmission tunnel, some other small changes like grenade mesh, but is otherwise a standard Grant. With most of New Zealand content being largely copy past style vehicles, they could be handled in such a way that they are mostly used for premiums or to fill tech tree holes.

A.C.I Sentinel 1st Armoured Division

Spoiler

image
Brief: The name of this A.C.I represents a bit of a “what if”. Had the A.C.I been issued to active units it would have been with the 1st Armoured Division. This Sentinel in the tech tree will functionally be the same except for the use of the optional “Steel Track Mk VI Australian Pattern”. It will also allow an extra Sentinel to be in your lineups.
Main Armament: QF 2 Pounder, shoulder stabilizer, 130 rounds, 360 degree traverse, -10/+20 vertical

Australian Cruiser Mk IA

Spoiler

Brief: The Mk IA is a standard A.C.I in almost every regard that has been up gunned to mount a 6 Pounder. The book “The Australian Cruiser Tank” by Jason Belgrave indicates designs for the mount were completed (likely based on the Canadian design for the Ram as the documentation is there for it). Crew is reduced to 4 as the hull machine gun is removed to make room for ammo. Additionally, there were three running prototypes in the Australian Cruiser program, AC E1, E2 & E3, that had running changes and new ideas tested on. Not only that, but eventual 6 Pounder production was undertaken in Australia (albeit for field guns). To me, this all qualifies as a partial prototype even if a 6-pdr was never physically mounted in an A.C.I.
Main Armament: QF 6 Pounder, 100 rounds, 360 degree traverse, -10/+20 vertical
Secondary Armament: Co-ax 0.30cal Vickers mg
Armour: Up to 64mm on hull and turret
Crew: 4
Powertrain: 3x V8s, combined 340hp
Weight: 26t
Top Speed: 48km/hr

SP 25 Pounder Yeramba

Spoiler

image
Brief: The Yeramba is a self propelled gun carrier for a 25 Pounder based on the hull of an M3 Grant made here in Australia. The similarity to a Sexton is noticeable as they took design queues from the Canadian tank, but it is in fact a unique tank.
Main Armament: QF 25 Pounder Mk 2/1
Secondary Armament: 2x 0.303 Bren mg
Armour: 38mm superstructure, hull 51mm plus transmission tunnel applique up to 44mm

Matilda II Mk IV

Spoiler

image
Brief: The Matilda II served Australia for almost the entirety of WW2, proving its worth in the jungle combat of the Pacific. Australia made many modifications that could be included in the game, whether it was add-on armour, a smoke screen generator, a cut down low profile cupola, or infantry radios and more. They also made a few special versions including the Matilda Frog and later improved Murray, flame tanks that replaced the main gun with flamethrowers. It’d be respectful to see the Australian Matilda in the game have a jungle warfare visual makeover.
Main Armament: QF 2 Pounder, 93 rounds, 360 degree traverse, -20/+20 vertical
Secondary Armament: Co-ax 7.92mm BESA mg
Armour: Up to 75mm, possible add-on track armour

Matilda II Tank-Dozer

Spoiler

image
Brief: The Matilda Dozer was an Australian modification to mount a dozer blade on the Matilda II. This was to better protect engineer crews who had been using commercial dozers that didn’t protect them from enemy fire. While the dozer does add a fair bit of weight to the slow and heavy Matilda, it’s not a tank that relies on mobility in the first place. The blade is so large it could actually help stop HEAT rounds etc. Plus dozing in a hole and becoming a bunker with a Matilda could be fun.
Main Armament: QF 2 Pounder, 93 rounds, 360 degree traverse, -20/+20 vertical
Secondary Armament: Co-ax 7.92mm BESA mg
Armour: Up to 75mm
Crew: 4
Powertrain: 190hp Leyland 6cyl

Matilda II Mk IV CS

Spoiler

image
Brief: The CS, for “Close Support” swaps out the 2pdr for a 3" howitzer. In operational use this would mainly have used HE, however there was an experimental HEAT round for the gun that opens the door for this.
Main Armament: Ordnance QF 3" Howitzer, 360 degree traverse, -20/+20 vertical
Secondary Armament: Co-ax 7.92mm BESA mg
Armour: Up to 75mm, possible add-on track armour
Crew: 4
Powertrain: 190hp Leyland 6cyl
Weight: 27t

Chevrolet 3-ton 40mm Bofors Portee

Spoiler

image
Brief: An Australian self propelled 40mm Bofors mounted on a Chevrolet 3-ton CMP. An added feature that doesn’t currently exist in the game, and could come to other trucks already in the game, is the hydraulic rams lowering while stationary to provide a stabilizer effect. Australia produced both the truck and the Bofors guns locally.
Main Armament: 40mm Bofors L/60, 360 degree traverse, -5/+90 elevation
Secondary Armament: None

Spoiler

image
Brief: There are 2 possibilities for the addition of a Crusader as an Australian premium. One is its use for design study and tests in Australia, the other, more sensible choice, is its use by Australian troops in the African campaign on loan from the UK.

Spoiler

image
Brief: When Australia decided to up-gun their Cruiser tank to a 17 Pounder, they needed to begin tests before an actual 17-pdr was available. In order to test recoil, a turret was designed mounting TWO 25 Pounder guns, giving 20% more recoil force than a 17-pdr would. The tests were a success.

Spoiler

image
Brief: During the development of the Australian Cruiser, trials were undertaken on the E2 chassis with a 25 Pounder with a longer, L/34 barrrel, to increase the muzzle velocity to 656m/s and thus, armour pen. The trials were deemed a success, however not a lot of further info is available. It’s likely it was deemed unnecessary if the 17 Pounder was becoming available.
Main Armament: 25 Pounder L/34 barrel

Churchill Mk VIII

Spoiler

Brief: As part of Australia’s Churchill acquisition there were also a number of Mk VIII. The Mk VIII is identical to the VII save for the gun which is a 95mm howitzer, a gun we already see in game on the Alecto. This represents something of a sidegrade to the VII however, as even though it has a little more pen, you’ve got a longer reload, a lower muzzle velocity that makes it a little harder to aim, and you deal with HEAT fusing on obstacles. Somewhat interestingly, there appears to have been a couple Australian Mk VIIIs also converted to the Crocodile configuration that could also be added in.

Churchill VIII Crocodile

Spoiler

image
Brief: Also part of Australia’s Churchill acquisition were the Crocodile flamethrowers. Most numerously in the VII, a couple conversions were also made on the VIII. I’d suggest making the Australian Crocodile based on the VIII as this seems to be rather unique and a point of difference to the previous event Crocodile we already have in game.

AC E1 17-pdr

Spoiler

image
Brief: The only Australian Cruiser tank to have actually existed with a 17 Pounder fitted was the AC E1 test model. Being still on the Mk I chassis, it is less mobile and has bigger weak spots on the armour compared to the A.C.IV.
Main Armament: QF 17 Pounder, 50 rounds, 360 degree traverse, -10/+20 vertical
Secondary Armament: Co-ax 0.30cal Vickers mg

Centurion Mk 3 (Vietnam)

Spoiler

image
Brief: Australia operated 131 Centurions in total in Mk 3 and Mk 5/1 and they saw combat during Vietnam. However during Vietnam, Australian Mk 3s were often brought up to Mk 5/1 standard. As such, this Mk 3 will have all the same specs as the Mk 5/1 we have in game. This tech tree version does not have the IR spotlight, and will have a Vietnam wartime visual.
Main Armament: OQF 20 Pounder, 360 degree traverse, -10/+20 elevation

Land Rover Series 2A 106mm RCL

Spoiler

Brief: The Gun Buggy is an Australian modified Land Rover with the 106mm recoilless rifle mounted on it. By making it an SPG (essentially what it is, an anti-armour vehicle) with scouting, it will have access to ammo boxes giving a total of 14 rounds to bring to battle. It also has a rather higher power to weight ratio, but expect the gun to be bouncy.
Main Armament: M40A1 106mm Recoilless Rifle, 7 rounds, 360 degrees traverse, -17/+65 elevation
Secondary Armament: 12.7mm co-ax ranging gun
Armour: None

Land Rover Series 2 MILAN ATGM

Spoiler

image
Brief: A further modification of the Gun Buggy in Australian service replaced the 106mm with a MILAN ATGM launcher. Again, with an SPG designation with scouting, this would give 10+ missiles thanks to ammo boxes.
Main Armament: MILAN 1 ATGM Launcher
Secondary Armament: Pintle mount MAG 58 mg
Armour: None
Crew: 4
Powertrain: 77hp
Weight: 1.5t

M113A1 FSV

Spoiler

image
Brief: Australia began operating the M113 in 1964, and in 1967 trials of a Fire Support Vehicle commenced mounting the turret of a Saladin, which then entered production in 1970 designated FSV. With similar HESH ammunition to the later MRV, in game it will perform very similarly. This earlier version was also much less numerous which is why it’d be the premium.
Main Armament: 76mm L5A1 cannon, 360 degrees traverse, -10/+20 elevation
Secondary Armament: Co-ax 7.62mm M1919A4 mg, roof pintle mount 7.62mm M1919A4 mg

Humber Hornet Malkara

Spoiler

image
Brief: Here we have one of those niche meme vehicles that would have limited capability in game. The Humber Hornet was developed to give UK and Australian airborne units an air droppable anti-armour vehicle. The Malkara missile itself was developed in Australia, and is a MCLOS wire guided missile with the largest warhead ever fitted to an ATGM, in itself a unique type as it was HESH, and contained a 26kg warhead. It is also however very slow, and the vehicle only carries 4 (8 with ammo boxes in game). Ultimately Australia did not adopt the vehicle in to service, but the UK did.
Main Armament: Malkara ATGM, 4 missiles

Armour: Up to 16mm

Centurion Mk V

Spoiler

Brief: New Zealand operated a couple Mk 3 and a handful of Mk 5 and 5/1 Centurions. I have chosen the Mk 5 as it’s different to the Australian Centurion in game and suggested in this tree.

Centurion Mk 5/1

Spoiler

Brief: We already had this Centurion as a battle pass reward, and since the tech tree can get a different model by name with the same performance, there’s no reason to change the Mk 5/1 we already have.

Leopard AS1 (1976)

Spoiler

image
Brief: The Leopard AS1 is the Australian model Leopard I based on the 1A3. Entering service in 1976, it would serve Australia for some 30 years, so I decided to split it in to 2 vehicles to represent its life of service. This 1976 version represents a factory fresh model. Ammunition available is L52A2 APDS, L35A3 HESH, M456A1 HEAT, M416 Smoke, M494 APERS, and TC800 Canister. In short, it would play like a faster Vickers Mk.3.
Main Armament: 105mm L7A3 cannon, 2-plane stabilizer, 360 degree traverse, -9/+20 elevation
Secondary Armament: Co-ax 7.62mm MG2A1 mg, roof mount 7.62mm MG3 mg
Armour: Up to 70mm on hull, 65mm on turret with spaced armour

Leopard AS1 (2005)

Spoiler

image
Brief: And so we come to the end of life Leopard AS1. Additions to this model could be the Barracuda camo net, optional dozer blade or mine plough, larger stowage baskets, and at a stretch, the added A/C unit could justify a slightly faster reload rate due to crew comfort. The BR is assuming that at some point in its 30 years of service, we purchased later APFSDS rounds than the 1960s APDS we started with. I can find no specifics though, so if there is no APFSDS, then this could be the same BR and moved to premium status.
Main Armament: 105mm L7A3 cannon, 2-plane stabilizer, 360 degree traverse, -9/+20 elevation
Secondary Armament: Co-ax 7.62mm MG2A1 mg, roof mount 7.62mm MG3 mg
Armour: Up to 70mm on hull, 65mm on turret with spaced armour

Boxer CRV Block I

Spoiler

Brief: Australia has started production of the Boxer CRV to replace the ASLAV. The Block I lacks the Spike ATGM launcher most notably. Compared to vehicles in game, it would closely resemble the hull of the Vilkas with the turret of the KF41 minus the Spikes.
Main Armament: 30mm Lance Mk 30-2, 360 degree traverse, -10/+45 elevation
Secondary Armament: Co-ax 7.62mm mg
Armour: Classified, protection from anti tank weapons, medium caliber ammunition. Spall liner.

ASLAV TOW Turret

Spoiler

image
Brief: The ASLAV-25 is an Australian produced version of Canada’s LAV. Its features will all be familiar to players, an M242 Bushmaster with APFSDS rounds, a laser rangefinder, thermals, and exceptional speed. This version is a trials version using the same turret found on the Desert Warrior in game giving access to TOW missiles. The BR might end up being the same as the ASLAV is faster, but it’s also bigger with weaker armour.
Main Armament: 25mm M242 Bushmaster, 2-plane stabilizer, 360 degree traverse, -7/+59 elevation
Secondary Armament: Co-ax 7.62mm mg, BGM-71 TOW ATGM dual launchers

Hawkei Slinger

Spoiler

image
Brief: The Slinger is a remote weapon station made by Electro Optic Systems of Australia. It has a tracking radar, and can fire a proximity sensing ammunition, as well as the same dual purpose ammunition as on the AH-64 helicopters as this is in fact the same cannon. What the vehicle lacks compared to an M247 in game, is range, damage output and a search radar. Hence the lower BR. But with proximity rounds I still ranked it higher than 8.3 SPAA. With 150 rounds per clip, there is loads of space in the Hawkei to store as many ammunition boxes as Gaijin deems balanced.
The Thales Hawkei is an Australian made PMV. With exceptional in class protection and capability.
Main Armament: Bushmaster M230LF 30x113mm cannon, 2-plane stabilizer, 360 degree traverse, -10/+70 elevation
Secondary Armament: None
Armour: Greater than STANAG level 1
Crew: 4

M60A1 MTTU

Spoiler

image
Brief: MTTU stands for Medium Tank Trials Unit. In 1971 a program began to replace Australia’s Centurion MBTs. The choices were narrowed down to the M60 or the Leopard I. Two of each were brought to Australia where extensive trials took place by the newly formed MTTU. The Leopard was eventually selected. No sources refer to the trials M60A1 as an AOS, therefore it lacks the stabilizer.
Main Armament: 105mm M68 cannon
Secondary Armament: Ca-ax 7.62mm M73 mg, roof mount 12.7mm M85 mg
Armour: Up to 108mm on hull, 230mm on turret

Main Armament: 152mm M81 gun/launcher
Secondary Armament: Ca-ax 7.62mm M73 mg, roof mount 12.7mm M2HB mg

Brief: The AMV35 from BAE Systems Australia was the short listed competitor to the Boxer CRV. While it may have lost out in the end, the trials vehicle offers some nice options for the game, including the punchy 35mm. This is the same turret found on the CV9035 in game.

M1A1 AIM

Spoiler

image
Brief: The Abrams entered Australian service in 2007. We already have the M1A1 AIM in the game in the wrong tech tree. This sub tree will bring this Australian operated tank under the umbrella of all other Australian operated vehicles. Since USA also used this variant, the squadron vehicle in game could easily be repurposed as the American one.
Main Armament: 120mm M256 smooth bore cannon, 360 degree traverse, -10/+20 elevation
Secondary Armament: Roof mounted 12.7mm M2HB mg, 7.62mm MAG 58 mg, co-ax 7.62mm MAG 58 mg

Hawkei NASAMS

Spoiler

image
Brief: The Thales Hawkei is an Australian made PMV. With exceptional in class protection and capability. There will be a version made to carry the NASAMS High Mobility Launcher which is capable of launching 4x AIM-120 and 2x AIM-9X missiles. The Australian NASAMS will be manufactured locally and utilize an Australian made radar system. However, the radar system is normally mounted on a second vehicle. It is currently unclear if the radar can in fact be used on a trailer with the launcher vehicle like in the photo below.
image
However we may see new game mechanics that also permit the use of these weapon systems.
Main Armament: NASAMS 3 High Mobility Launcher
Secondary Armament: None
Armour: Greater than STANAG level 1
Crew: 4
Powertrain: 268hp 6cyl
Weight: 7.5t
Top Speed: 130km/hr

Why is Australia and New Zealand Together?

Spoiler

Australia and New Zealand are so geographically and geopolitically intertwined that historically when it comes to military matters, we are basically one. Both countries were founded by the English Empire, and were Empire states prior to the forming of the Commonwealth, and both are still members of the Commonwealth today. It is not commonly known, but during the Federation of Australia, New Zealand was offered to become a state of the country of Australia (along with Fiji) and while they declined, it is still written within the Australian Constitution that they can join any time if they changed their mind.
ANZAC stands for Australian & New Zealand Army Corps, and was a joint army corps between the two nations during WW1. The term was also used for joint cooperation between Australia and New Zealand during WW2 and Vietnam. ANZAC Day (an event suggestion I have posted here and has been passed to developers) is a nationally observed public holiday in both nations in remembrance of all Australians and New Zealanders that have served.

Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed reading this suggestion as much as I enjoyed making it. I am more than happy to take suggestions for anything I may have left out or forgotten, for name changes or BR changes. Ground vehicles are less well documented than air or naval for Australia so it was harder to research. I feel Australia in particular can offer the game a lot, with indigenous designs across air, naval, and ground, and locally modified/built unique variants across air, ground, naval and heli. Any Australian inclusion simply must include New Zealand for the reasons mentioned above. But I’m not saying this is what the game “needs”, this is definitely what I want though lol.

As far as sub-trees go, this is excellent! +1

Like always I have both my short and long-term wants.

Short: To the UK where it fits the most right now.

Long(and what I want to happen the most): With a Canadian tree, well the help the ANZAC sub-tree can bring would be mostly felt in other areas, the variety will be useful and even more so when things taper off near the top.

Australian Camouflages (image count warning)

Spoiler

image

Early WW2 Australian camos are somewhat of a mixed bag. Many different units were using different colours, or not updating their camo in a timely manner per new directives. However, some overarching themes and patterns are present, which allows us to implement/predict some camos available to Australian vehicles in the game.
The default camo for early vehicles will be a standard green, or more specifically it was generally a Khaki Green in early WW2. The shade could vary slightly depending on how units mixed the colour. The standard unicolor khaki green was used at the outbreak of WW2.
image

By the end of 1943 the khaki green was changed out for a dark green. This would likely be default for later model vehicles. It’s also representative of the factory green our Leopard AS1s were delivered in.
image
image

For an unlockable camo used on forest and green fields maps on early Australian vehicles, we have the two-tone Khaki Green/Light Earth. These colours were selected by studying natural colours found in Australia and New Guinea. No doubt the shade again varied, but the representation already in War Thunder works well.
image

image
image

The unlockable desert camo is a basic unicolour sand. Much of Australia’s early participation in WW2 was in Africa where desert camo was desired. This was no doubt based on the UK desert sand camo, so it would basically be the same for WW2 vehicles and most post WW2 vehicles up to modern. It’s difficult to find colour photos of this. Even modern NATO camos use a basic light sand colour for desert warfare, so this is hardly anything foreign to the game.
image
image

For an unlockable snow camo, we have…lol Australian tanks in snow. If anyone finds photos of Australian army vehicles operating in snow with a snow camo you let me know. However, since we were a member state of the British Empire during WW2 and are still a member of the Commonwealth and NATO today, the British snow camo will work fine for early vehicles, and anything the same as NATO members on late vehicles.

For a late model default camo, Australia uses a tri-colour disruptive camo known as Auscam. With a mix of green, brown and black, it has a very Earthy look to it synonymous with natural Australian colours. This replaced all standard unicolour green camos.

Lastly, for some special purchasable camos, many types of individual expression are available to inspire use in the game. A number of special pattern variations of the standard Auscam. There are also quite a few patterns inspired by local mud colours that appeared on Leopard AS1s.

New Zealand Camouflages

Spoiler

New Zealand camos are proving a little hard for me to find, although from what I can gather they basically used British army camo on their vehicles in WW2. Which makes sense since we were all part of the Empire during WW2. We then have evidence of use of the American style MERDEC camo later on, while most recently they’re running a standard dark green. Since I can’t find any talk about directives on camo in the NZ Army, I’m going to post a few pictures to show some of the Kiwi vehicles in different camos.

A jungle camo found on their Valentines one of the prettier and less common camos.
image

MERDEC camo on their M41s and Scorpions. Would like right at home in desert maps.
image

Modern dark green camo (Bushmasters pictured). Undoubtedly the default camo for the vast majority of NZ vehicles. Has been used for decades, their Centurions were basically the same colour. It looks like even a lot of their WW2 tanks were dark green.

Same basic unicolour sand as Australia and UK for desert warfare.
image

A special mud-grey with blue-black disruptive camo used in the Italian campaign.
image
image

And again one would assume and rightfully give NZ the UK snow camo.
If you find some additional camos worth mentioning, let me know and I’ll post them in here.

+1, Always nice to see more Aussie and Kiwi stuff in game, now you’ve just got to do a suggestion for a AU+NZ naval tree and the collection will be complete!

I’ve got some things to update with this ground suggestion first I think. New Zealand camos, and a section about tanks I didn’t add because they either weren’t needed, or aren’t practical in WT, like the Matilda Frog and Murray, or a prototype M113 with a 7.62mm minigun from Vietnam (it doesn’t have enough elevation to be an SPAA).
I know I forgot to add notes about shoulder stabilizers and two plane stabilizers on a number of vehicles that had them.
I’m also hoping some people will come forward with more ground vehicles I didn’t come across.

But then yes, the next project will probably be a coastal sub tree (because we have some neat stuff in there, some of it indigenous) then bluewater after that. I’ve done a fair bit of reading about naval, but haven’t even started a draft of a tree yet. I had this ground tree draft going on and off for a couple years, as I read and researched more to formulate the ideas in my head then add them in.

Regarding just the Australian Cruisers. The twin 25 pounders were tested on E1 not E2. E2 was pretty much used exclusively for armament testing for the AC3 Thunderbolt. Likewise it was E1 that was used for the 17 pounder tests, however it had also been fitted with a Perrier-Cadilllac, so you can feel free to up the horsepower. On the other hand E1 is most likely made of plain cast steel, not armour steel.

The L34 25 pounder was a one off experiment, the AC3 Thunderbolt used a standard length gun.

War Thunder’s A.C.IV is actually a pretty reasonable AC3 Thunderbolt model, but it is not a good AC4, that needed a new hull to fit the larger turret ring for the new turret, so the tank would have ended up longer and taller. It’d resemble an AC3 but not be an AC3.

The Cloverleaf-Cadillac is good for 370hp gross, or the Perrier-Cadillac 365hp nett. if you wish to be consistent.

AC1A wasn’t built because the 6 pounders were being built in South Australia while the development work was being done in Victoria, and construction in New South Wales, and the order for tank guns … fell through the cracks? I think perhaps they just didn’t notice the tank gun needs a different breech ring than the towed gun. By the time this was discovered the 25 pounder was just as close time-wise so the 6 was dropped completely.

I’d maybe substitute the AC3 Scorpion for the “A.C.I Sentinel 1st Armoured Division” if you want something different, essentially the same tank but with a 430hp nett P&W Wasp engine, and likely US suspension. All Australian Cruisers by design carry a anti-aircraft Bren.

Not all Yerambas had the applique armour. I suspect it was left on if the vehicle that came in to be rebuilt already had it, but it is not part of the conversion. The simple observation that there is no reason to put an additional 44mm of armour over the 2" transmission housing, the least likely part to be hit, while leaving the gun protected by a half inch and the super structure by one and a half inches, should be sufficient. Especially on an artillery vehicle that is not intended to be used in direct fire.

Some had it, some didn’t.

I’ll double check the E2 chassis test builds and rename as appropriate.
I am aware the L/34 was a one off, I haven’t stated the A.C.3 had the L/34 fitted, only that it was likely to go in to production.
I wouldn’t include the Scorpion since it was not built either and is more of a departure from the standard running prototypes.
And regardless of whether they could all use the Bren gun, clearly not many had it equipped at any given time, as evidenced by photos. And the Cruiser we have in game hasn’t got it, which is an acceptable representation because most did not have it on.

Yep, it was a left over from the Grants they were modified from. Still something they did have and should have in game.

There’s no record of production planning for a lengthened 25 pounder, only standard length MkII and the Short. I don’t see any reason to think an upgraded AC3 L34 is “likely”, especially as the 17 pounder is just better at putting holes in things and was expected to be along shortly. The later 25 pounder armed tanks, the AC3 and AC4A, were expected to support the 17 pounder armed tanks not replace them.

The AA Bren with 36 magazines is on the stowage list for the AC1, AC3, and AC4, but is stored internally out of the dust and weather. You just aren’t going to see it in a photograph unless it is deployed. It is standard equipment, all the tanks had it. The War Thunder AC1 is incomplete.

Just going off my book on the Australian Cruiser. It’s a minor detail, but if it pleases you I will remove the phrase about the L/34 being likely intended for production. And yes I’m aware the 25pdr is inferior to a 17pdr.
And I see no harm in having two A.C.Is, one without the AA gun mounted, and the rubber tracks. And one with the AA gun, and the steel tracks. It’s not like we don’t have 7 Tiger Is in the game, not including the “Porsche Tigers”.

Edit: The incorrectly labelled E2 chassis prototype designs have been correctly relabeled E1. And the mention of the L/34 being likely approved for production has been removed unless documentation can be found stating otherwise.

All good.

The harm? Because it seems to me to lack any rational basis to deliberately have two of the same tank, one with an AAMG able to use it and the same tank with the same AAMG unable? doubly so if based on selective interpretation of photographic evidence? I mean under your Australian Cruiser Mk 1A entry, in that photo you can’t actually see the 2 pounder, but we both know it is there, so you wouldn’t say that that wasn’t fitted.

But if seeing is believing, E2 has photos with the AAMG in place, the production tanks AA practice:

So the AAMG is there from E2 right through the Sentinel, the AC3, to the AC4.

If you want to have two tanks with functional difference based on history sure, put steel tracks on one AC1, it’ll be faster and more responsive, or make one a Scorpion engined tank again it’ll be a tiny bit faster and it was closer to being built than the AC1A in my view. If you want to have arbitrary distinctions in game, also fine, just don’t tie it to reality.

us sub tree

The US certainly doesn’t need a sub-tree, they have plenty of vehicles. I reckon the best place for AUS+NZ would be in a Canadian tree with this as a sub, or turn the UK tree into a Commonwealth one.

Of course those have their own problems, but the US has plenty of indigenous designs that could be added to the game.

us sub tree. us suffers it clearly needs more tanks

I have that one

If you feel passionately enough about it, bug report it and get Gaijin to add it to the existing A.C.I. I’ll take any added functionality for it, no matter how limited a 0.303 mg may be.
Also, I didn’t actually say the AA gun wasn’t fitted to other Sentinels. I literally called them optional extras that could be had. If the gun can either be stored inside or mounted, that is an optional extra…

I don’t do bug reports. I prefer dealing with those who might be amenable to reason.

So the main reason I made one with and one without the mg is because a model of the tank already is in the game without it. And I wanted one with it. If Gaijin is open to adding it to both/the existing one, great. So again, if it pleases you I’ll add the Bren to the specs of the first one as well.
And two of the same tank, like I pointed out with all the Tiger Is, can help lineups. You literally have another Sentinel without using a backup. Or 4 Sentinels with backups.
Plus there would have to be 2 of them to have both the rubber and steel tracks represented since it’s a little part of the history of the Cruiser program to represent.
