Are you enjoying "new" hulls strength mechanic?

My thoughts are, that community misunderstood the conception of this change and were focused on “loses its unsinkability” but as i understand the change was not about “unsinkability” but about ship’s structural integrity rough simulation of “deck crushing in to ship hold”, “bulkheads” breaking in half and so on. That’s why sections damaged over the water level, that’s why HE made good damage to them. But community misunderstood a conception(cause nobody from dev side voiced it) and asked for tweaks, and tweaks been done first one - 3 sections instead of 2(and that i think is right), but nobody checked the last one where damage to structure decreased 10x times and section HP by 25% which gave us 7.5x times increased time to kill one section.

And here we are - all big ships now much more survivable than before patch even light cruisers live longer versus the battleships. For example here is my battle on stock Bretagne with HE only 25 mins of perpetual hits of light cruisers and 7138 dmg when 2700 points. I can’t say I’m truly enjoying this. Before this change with in similar match with same enemies i made at least 1.5 more damage with same points. Initial change were aimed to lower survivability not increase it. So how are you think about it you get what you asked in that poll [Feedback] Loss of unsinkability mechanics - #14 by Cepeleon

  • Yes it’s fine
  • No, it too much Scharnhorst live even longer now and all battleships live longer even cruisers vs dreadnoughts, tweak it a half or so lower.
  • No, first iteration but with 3 compartments was right before structural x10 damage nerf

HRM, I have not seen those deep details on these changes. Gotta think for a little bit and understand the numbers better before I choose a vote.

Do you see the Scharnhorst living LONGER now after the change 😭 ? I only encountered a couple of them when I was testing the new NAB aiming. I did not fight them enough to get a good feel about if they are living longer or not,

I thought I kind of liked the change to the damage/“unsinkability” stuff, HOWEVER, if the Scharnhorst is living LONGER then this will be a hard NO from me lol.

I also thought that HE rounds would be effective again at taking out these new compartments but that does not seem to be the case (please tell me if you guys disagree.) Because IF HE shells worked better, then this specific change would not be as big of a deal, imo. Like back when HE was working well I was able to HE spam a Scharnhorts and wear them down effectively.

Looks like 3 compartments rule not always working, mate didn’t sink after 3 compartments out - stucked on 22% floating

I do not know about bluewater changes yet, but the combination of aim assist, better AI gunners and the new structural strenght mechanics has done a terrible number in coastal battles.

It has further increased the value of boats with many fast firing guns and devalued boats with few, slow firing guns. Since all you have to do now is correct the aim a little when the enemy ship is maneuvering, fast firing guns instantly turn most boats into rubble, with many encounters being decided by who shoots first.

At the same time, guns with slow fire rates, especially larger calibers with slower turret turn rates, seem to miss a lot more than before. Also, since you have no direct indication of where you are currently aiming at anymore, it is a lot harder to “lead aim” by turning your boat when you have such a slow turning turret. Lastly, some guns with restricted sections along their aiming path cannot be used as efficiently anymore.

Add to that that even clean hits on the superstructure, that should logically have knocked out most of the enemy crew, still have little to no impact on the boats. And since one big shell does a lot less damage on boat hulls that 30-50 20mm shots, your only chance is that the opponent is not aiming at you as you shoot them so you can get in a few free shots first.

AI bots, being the fearless warriors they are, will just mindlessly push into enemy spawn, Always in the open and looking at all directions at once. With them, even moving towards the point becomes a chore since you will constantly be peppered by stray fire the moment you leave cover.

This can not be resolved by changing the hull mechanic alone.

But, concernign the topic at hand, I would say that, at least in coastal arcade the new mechanic makes boats more fragile instead of more sturdy…

It’s a complex theme what is affected it more new accuracy for bots, new accuracy for secondary and AA auto fire, new AB aiming, new HE dmg mechanic or new hull dmg mechanic.

Yeah I figure, that is why I went into tl;dr mode and explained my thoughts in detail.

It would have been better to roll out those changes 1 by 1, with a few weeks in between, so we could see the effects of each one for itself. Like this, with everything rolled out at once. It is hard to say.

it’s better that way, then last two years almost without any significant changes.
