Air Sim rewards and how to fix them

This is a statement from 6 years ago. Still relevant today, sadly.
And no. AB and RB for air and RB for Tanks are Gaijin’s babies.
They decide the whole game strategy around them.

There was even a time where the flight models of RB were changed and it destroyed the sim flight models. It doesn’t seem to happen anymore, but the bothed flight models of the Spitfire, P-51D and others are a result of this.
Yes, they are more realistic than before, but nonsensical, as we cannot chose which tanks to fill with our fuel and it also doesn’t have an effect on center of gravity, but they behave like it does.

Edit: On one of the updates, they put the arcade flight models on at least the A6M3. I realized this after flying it for an event in AB and then a few weeks later it was the same on SB.
They fixed it, but it was clear how sloppy the work/QA was on the background…

I’d love to see a SIM tournament aswell. The one that just came out should have been SIM not RB its sponsored by Thrustmaster and the rewards are flight sticks… Why can’t the SIM community have a tournament for once? Also I think it’s way more interesting than another RB air tournament for the community to watch and skill wise in terms of players having to spot out of the cockpit. It would be so awesome to watch

You might think,but the community and Gaijin doesnt. Most people would be bored watching it. Its also why sim is the least played mode and most only play it to bomb there without being interrupted for grinding.

I play f-15a for 20 minutes, get 3 kills and 2 deaths and I go negative? What the point of even trying to play the game? If you go 1 to 1 you go negative unless you maximize your 15 minutes useless actions stuff. Why should anyone play sim without a premium account if you go negative from just playing the game?
You’re basically forced to leave the game and go play arb if you want to actually stay positive in your bank account as a player without premium. I never realized economy was this terrible until I ran out of premium, it’s impossible to play without premium

Air Sim is about survival, not min-maxing actions.

Getting a kill and then dying rewards very little because you had no time to acrue rewards.

This is an issue, but even with changes, I still think an emphasis on survival should remain. The last thing we’d want from the gamemode is a policy of zerg rushing and aimlessly dying trying to get as many kills in the process.

Problem is that right now the way it’s set up is it highly encourages inactive, anti-team gameplay.

Rewards should encourage teamwork and completion of objections AND survival.

Right now, if I kill 2 people and my teammate goes “Cover me!”, my optimal choice is to ignore my teammate and let them die and fly back to the airfield and do lazy banking turns until I get the pop-up.

If I save my teammate, I get zero extrinsic reward - this is fine at prop tiers because it’s cheap and idc about spawn costs with my 3k SL plane but imagine if I was in a ho 229 and each spawn cost me 17.3k SL and most I’d earn is 19.8K SL no matter what. Intrinsically I can feel good about myself and pad my service record with more kills but the risk is way too high (see the ho 229 example).

Yep, Which is why Id suggest a hybrid system instead of what we’ve got now, or what we have in RB

In my opinion best way to fix rewards while saving mode from zombers and abusers is:

  • Significant drop of rewards for hits on airbase and rolands
  • Adjusting reward for surviving. Probably by making useful actions reward doubled if you not died during the time
  • Useful actions cap should be rised
  • No award for making pvp kill while enemy on ground (that would get rid of botters easily - as still when there is air event botters are grinding event that way)

Yeah, that picture is exactly why things got changed for everyone. Those constant brainless one way suicide bombing runs gave crazy big rewards without any risk/effort.

Zombers are only doing it for score for events. When they instantly die, they get 0 SL or RP rewards. So nerfing the actual rewards does nothing but punish everyone else and does nothing to Zombers.

Better solution:

Put a timer on the score gains from attacking an AF. If you die within 2-3 minutes of damaging an AF, you dont get the score from it. Couple with the better SPAA… should be fine

edit: Solution 2:

At the moment, you generate score, which generate activity, which generates RP/SL

What if instead, you gained activity and you got score and RP/SL based upon activity time and not actions. Zombers get deleted, rewards dont need to be reduced, if anything, they could be buffed. Everyone wins

Could work. Though I dont necessarily think the rewards are actually all that bad from the 15 minute intervals, but rather its easy to overcap, making actions go unrewarded and if you die, you loose all of it.

Ive always thought there should be a way to go over the cap. So getting to 100% doesnt change, but its possible to go above 100%. It would take more and more actions to go higher and higher over (notable deminishing returns) but the rewards would be reflected in that. Allowing maybe up to 200% the rewards from useful actions.

The simplest fix is :

A. Make max rewards on the score card give you 100% and not 92% as it is currently. (FYI it’s ONLY 70% in Heli PVE!)
B. Align the spawning cost with realistic. No more deposits. Dying in the first minute is cheap, ie 1088 SL … OR if I live for an entire game, GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK!
C. Allow us to use our free repairs in sim! I have hundreds of these sitting unable to be used! I have several aced planes with 10+ free repairs!
D. Allow the use of backups! Again, hundreds of backups wasted since I don’t fly in realistic! **

832k SL locking in a plane and unusable… and that’s just ONE plane.

NONE of these are controversial or ‘new’, they’re literally how it works in realistic.I would prefer they dumped UA but since they won’t just make Sim EC work like the rest of the game!

** just give me universal ones. A universal backup I can use with a premium plane OR tank is GREAT!

A ‘reward’ we can’t use is no reward. It’s just a kick in the teeth.

To add to this. If you call out using → Radio commands, → Report, → “Follow me”

To call out your position, and if the friendly doesn’t respond in 5 - 10 secs, and you fire and kill them after they failed to call out, MAKE THEM pay the cost of repair, and not count it as a team kill.

Basically this, but no even need for increased rewards. Just uncap the reward system and there, it’s fixed.

Much as I want people to communicate better, until we have it as part of mandatory, universally accessible onboarding process it’s a bad idea.

Instead, go and tell people to watch Wingaling’s video on comms and stuff. Non-zombers are usually receptive.

Nobody seems receptive, it’s either “why isnt your radar on???” When some planes don’t have iff, or when people are lazy it makes others suffer.

I shouldn’t have to suffer because of someone else’s laziness.

Especially when gaijins mix matches equipment

Every game, EVERY single game I spam a macro with :

Radar IFF : |-| enemy |=| ally

and I STILL get TKd in my Helicopters in ground sim. I see people shooting at me so I spam it again and again… yep, they got me.

The other day I was TKd by a player with over SIX THOUSAND sim games!

6,300+!!!

Same day I was TK’d as I left the cap, which I decapped and sat on capping! despite multiple t41 and another macro specifying which cap I would be landing my helicopter on.

People occasionally say ‘thanks, I didn’t know that’ (I once had an arguement with a SPAA player with 2000+ games who argued repeatedly it was the other way around) but where in game does Gaijin even explain radar IFF?
