Yak 38 fits fine in battle rating of 9.0

I would disagree.
Full uptiers in the Ariete can be pretty miserable if people decide to focus you hard.
The second they decide to avoid dogfighting you and just try to missile with an AIM-9J you’re kinda boned.

Also MiG-21F-13/J-7II and EEL as well.

Honestly the 21F-13 can stay where it is.
2 R-3S (K-13) and a gun with 60 rounds is fine at 9.3

You don’t say…

B-But 16v16 is a bad!!1!

I’m almost more alarmed that 13 people on your team died and only 7 of those were attributed to the enemy. Rocky Pillars must be eating good.

That simply how it goes in the 9.7-10.3 BR range… Sometimes it feels like you’re playing with 10 year olds that have barely touched a keyboard, let alone gotten into a game like this in a BR range like this

Indeed. Well done sir. Have you seen that there is a dedicated thread for aircraft high scores records?

We should get back on topic.

I have not. Is there?

What topic? There hasn’t been a topic for a solid 6-7 days

You submit your screenshots of the scoreboard and show what plane you are in. If you need to go back in the replay you can do that, since you can access the scoreboard during replays (just fast forward to end of game and screenshot the scoreboard showing what vehicle you were in). Squadded games are not admissible unless the game randomly paired you with a teammate.

Threads are for a topic, and an interval of a week isn’t enough to count as a necro. If no one is interested in discussing the Yak-38, then we should let the thread lie.

And that topic is never set once past the initial conversation. This thread has hundreds of messages, and that has since moved onto other vehicles of similar BR. I’ve added my two cents on the topic, where is the issue?

I would like to see the Yak 38 get some mercy, but my experience tells me that almost every plane from 8.3-10.3 is squeezed by BR compression brutally. Just moving the Yak’s BR will only change which planes are undeservedly strong and which are not. We need more room in the battle rating system in the 9.0 area to really solve the problem.

I think it would be fair to move the Yak-38 down to 9.0 in ground RB once gaijin finally releases the patch that will allow aircraft to have different BRs in ground and air battles. The only real problem around this BR is that some planes completely lack countermeasures. For the air-centric mode, I think that’s grounds for uptiering planes based upon the quality of their Fox-2’s alone. However that concern holds less weight in the ground centric mode.

I can fairly easily dodge Aim-9Js with the Ariete. As long as you immediately go front-aspect with the missile, it will no longer be able to track you, which has saved me countless of times. If you think you don’t have the distance or speed to do this, you can always fake a head-on to any jet with 20G+ rear-aspect missiles. R-60s are a bit more difficult, as they turn more, but they have a shorter range.
If they are smart, they should just wait for you to be distracted (if you aren’t that self-aware of your surroundings), or wait for you to get slow (like around 500km/h). But that’s assuming they are able to third-party you.

You can even dodge Aim-9Ls from A-10s such that you are at 800km/h and much higher than the A-10. Even at 2.5km~ the Aim-9L doesn’t have enough energy to reach you from that high and turn with you because of your speed.
You can easily bait the A-10 pilot to launch all their Aim-9Ls and they are then defenseless against you.
Even if they do have Aim-9Ls, if they aren’t aware enough, you can slot in behind them and they can’t really do anything about it.
Along with this, the flight performance of 10.3 fighters, like the F-5C, are very good until they get slow, which then the Ariete is just much better. This is why I sometimes even prefer fighting at 10.3 than 8.3.

When you turn off your engine in a non-afterburning plane the heat signature goes down quickly. I have used this to dodge R60Ms in the F86F-2 and the CL-13A Mk 5. It is even more reliable against rear-aspect missiles with poor seeker heads. Throttling down works but turning off the engine with I will kill it instantly. Once you turn nose-in to the missile, it will no longer be able to lock you even at close range.

Hope this tip helps :)

MiG-21 SPS-K is now at 9.3, with a much better flight performance than the Yak-38, at the cost of 2x less R-60s, and less potential for CAS. The MiG-21 SPS-K can also have access to flares and become a pure missile bus at the cost of the gun. I think the Yak-38 might still be better (at least in general case).

Because you are either 1. Bad or 2. Unaware of what the words “compression” are (because those same aircraft are untouchable/unkillable by a 8.0-8.3.) or 3. both.

No? Unless all aspect they must get a direct rear lock which is easy to deal with in all of these aircraft. Ayit even gets flares…

no? Any half decent f104 will never allow a viable missile solution

he said to decompress, you either didnt read or dont even know what we’re talking about

It does with decompression, undeniably.

No? Very easy to avoid that both kinetically and more importantly by simply never allowed a missile solution.

No, decompress. Not a SINGLE supersonic should be 9.3. Zilch. Supersonics should start at 10.0.
