WW2 Vehicle Wishlist/War Thunder Seemingly no Longer Supporting WW2 Additions

Topic had to be moved, so here’s the OP:

I understand that the trend has been apparent for a few years, but to have it officially stated is immensely disappointing. I play top-tier AND low-mid tier. There’s no reason why we shouldn’t continue to expect WW2 vehicles IN THE MAIN TECH TREE. Where’s the Luchs? The A6M8 and Ki-64? I could go on…

I left a post under the video. I’d be curious to hear what others think.

Please also feel free to discuss your favorite WW2 vehicles that haven’t been added

As I said in my posts on the original topic. I’m here for the WW2 stuff primarily, so to hear this news saddens me.

Stuff like the Bishop, Priest, Sexton(been really wanting these 3 after they started to do SPH C&Ps) or more Sherman and Lee variants(and missing lease-land), or even BeNeLux low-tier/WW2 era tech.

I really want the Ki-93 as the mix of the 57 mm gun and bombs would be perfect for low-tier CAS, something Japan really needs more of

“Focus” doesn’t mean exclusion. War Thunder is still supporting WW2 additions.

However, I feel when they finish their focused areas they should start picking vehicles that will look random.
I want more P-47s as the prominent example.

There are some weak trainers I want.

I would love HUMVEEs and other trucks equipped with lower caliber weapons.

This year, 36 new low-tier vehicles were added to the game. Of these, five are vehicles from the “Great War” event, and another five are new Mosquito, some of which are C&P. To this number, we must add two vehicles in this update. It’s truly appalling. An average of 40 vehicles are added per update, and there are only four of them. That’s an average of 160 vehicles, and only 33-38 vehicles are low-tier.

For a player like me, who is not interested in the highest-tier (it doesn’t give me any pleasure and fun) and has closed his wallet with gajin, there are even fewer new low-tier vehicles.

Hasn’t this been the case for awhile now?
Focusing more modern vehicles while adding WW2 vehicles here and there.

This was already evident, and now we have confirmation. The game’s developers literally believe there are too many WWII-era vehicles. This means we probably won’t see any more vehicles from Finland, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Japan, Sweden, China, Italy, Hungary, or other smaller nations from WWII.

Well, we will see at least one unique Belgian vehicle in the near future, but not by any Gaijin initiative

And that’s the big issue, we need user models to see these WW2/low tier, but there is no guarantee they’d be added as TT, iirc majority of the user models are unobtainium, when new TT examples are the big want.

Gajin has already demonstrated its abandonment of WW2-era vehicles. Japan is a prime example. In three years, only two vehicles were added: the B7A2 Battlepass and the Ki-48 event. Two planes and zero tanks in three years is a disastrous result. The last Japanese WW2-era tank was the Ka-Chi Battlepass, which appeared in 2021. Now, Gajin has confirmed that it no longer wants WW2-era vehicles.

I’m exhausted. For almost two years, I’ve written about 200 suggestions, 95% or more of which are for World War II vehicles. Now I know it was a waste of time, because “War Thunder has too many such vehicles.” I’m giving up writing any more suggestions until the end of the year.

I think Sweden still has several WW2 vehicles that should be added to the main tree, not premiums or event-only. There are real gaps in the early–mid ranks, and these vehicles would genuinely strengthen Swedish lineups:

  • Lvkv fm/43 – Much-needed early SPAA.
  • Tgb m/42 (8mm + 20mm versions) – Useful light/scout vehicles.
  • Strv fm/31 – Important early tank still missing.
  • Pansarbil m/31 (37mm + 20mm) – Fills Sweden’s missing armored car lineup.
  • Two Strv m/40 variants – Would give Rank II more depth.
  • Two Strv m/42 variants still not in-game – These would greatly improve mid-tier flexibility.

And for the vehicles already in game, Strv m/40, m/41, and m/42 need smoke launchers. They had them historically, and adding them would improve survivability and bring them in line with other nations’ WW2 tank line-up

Also, i need a Tech-tree Landsverk Lynx.

I’ve listed some props Italy could get:

There are also theoretical Italian/Hungarian/Romanian TTs.

Spoiler

Italian-Hungarian-Romanian GF TT

Honestly for some trees early tiers should be a focus as they are quite empty compared to others.

From my pov the idea that wt would be able to provide any kind of authentic WW 2 experience died a long time ago.

  1. The whole game setup with BRs determined on average player performance or symmetric warfare (2 equally sized teams try to attack at the same time) prevents any immersion just by design.
  2. So conceptual or plain numerical advantages / disadvantages (which were actually decisive irl) can’t be implemented correctly.
  3. Adding irrelevant (in WW 2 context) countries like ISR or SWE (not FL) and gaijin’s habit to spread weapon systems across multiple nations (like P-51 C or P-47s or 109s) were poison for WW 2 game play.
  4. I mean the only real & authentic WW 2 experience you can get is to fight in small matches (usually 6 vs 6) in Air RB on these 5-6 Pacific maps at a BR around 3.7 with US/UK vs JP in semi-historical matches.

Imho Italy is the perfect example for a lack of immersion - i would love to see a kind of semi-historical MM enabling fights between Italian ANR and ACI aircraft.

There is a reason why certain Italian aircraft have skins with German markings…

I’m glad you mentioned the Tgb, I really want to see that goofy thing.

I’ve expressed my concern in the previous threads. Click on the arrow to expand and view my whole message body:

Yes, but the issue is that what the game director said in the recent Q&A was not encouraging news for the future of WWII development. His remarks suggest that the ratio of WWII to modern additions may be drastically reduced from this point onward. The fact that the Line of Contact update included only two WWII aircraft, both premiums, and zero WWII ground vehicles is an indication of this development’s direction. It risks becoming the new norm, and that is what worries many of us. I am excluding WWII event vehicles here because those are essentially gimmick additions and do not meaningfully expand the tech trees.

For instance, I am especially disappointed with the state of the Hungarian subtree in the Italian aviation tree. There is nothing for Hungary in Ranks I and II. The subtree begins at Rank III, and you start with a Yak-9P, with no local WWII aircraft preceding it. This gives the impression that Gaijin has no intention of improving that part of the tree. It is reminiscent of when the Dutch/Belgian subtree was added to France and initially had almost no native WWII content aside from the Fokker G.IA. Domestic options for Dutch aviation are slowly added over time, with Fokker D.XXI and X.XXIII. We still haven’t received some Belgian domestic options yet.

There are still plenty of WWII vehicles that could and should be added. Reducing the WWII-to-modern ratio to something like twenty WWII vehicles per year is not acceptable. While I understand the budget constraints and the commitment to attractive top-tier content that have contributed to this shift, I still believe the balance is important to maintain. There needs to be a healthy distribution of WWII, Cold War, and modern additions if the game is to remain sustainable in the long term.

I understand there is a possibility that this is only a short-term phase, but I am still worried that once Gaijin reaches the practical end of top-tier development, they will begin to push only a few of WWII and Cold War additions into premium or event-reward categories instead of expanding and filling the regular tech trees. In a worst-case scenario, they might even decide that the game has reached its limit and, long after the arrival of aircraft like the F-22, F-35, Su-57, or J-20, simply wind down development or even shut the servers altogether. That outcome is unlikely, but the uncertainty remains, and it adds to the concern about how the long-term direction of the game will be handled.

I agree with literally every single thing you said

im here for ww2 up to mid cold war stuff.

I dont care for modern stuff, its cool its here but ill always prefer a vehicle that isnt computers and composites over one that is

36?
Excluding ships, since you excluded ships:

Spoiler

Hornet’s Sting: 13. 3 event. 7 WW1 event.

Leviathans: 15.
9 part of multi-premium packs.
2 event. 1 ship recon.

Tusk Force: 15.
5 copy-paste, 2 premium. 1 event.

Spearhead: 4. 1 premium.

So… 46 from my count. With a minority being same-model used, and I’m not even counting boats.

In comparison with 2024…

Spoiler

Alpha Strike: 10.
4 event.

Seek & Destroy: 6.
2 premiums.

Dance of Dragons: 6.
2 event. 1 premium.

Firebirds: 3.
1 premium.

Storm Warning: 11.
3 in a multi-vehicle pack. 2 event. 5 copy-paste.

In 2024, there were 36.
There is already more low to lower-mid BR vehicles added in 2025 than 2024.

And yes, I counted up to BR 6.7, but not higher.
For example, the French M46 didn’t make the cut. But Kungstiger did.

Edit:
~50 out of ~210 vehicles added a year from the 1.0 - 6.7 range seems low, however naval is among those 210 and needs to be focused on as that’s the next stage of development.
Top air is almost complete and can end focus, which will leave just naval as a “focus” outside of air and ground areas of the game.

So let’s say 80 vehicles a year allocated to naval.
130 left for air and ground.
I think ~60 vehicles for 1.0 - 6.7 air and ground is a reasonable expectation.

It’s quite disheartening to see Britain get M44 and M109 copypastes when they have stuff like the Sexton. They do insist that these are temporary measures and that unique vehicles will be added later, but it’s always years from then, if at all

I’m fine with a lack of an authentic WW2 experience as long as we continue to receive WW2 era vehicles
