War Thunder no longer supporting WW2 additions

Which ones?

Re 2006…

WW2 infantry would be sweet though.

And the Stug 4, Stug 3 late, Up armored Sherman 76, Jagdpanzer 4 late, SU-76i, T-43, VK 30.02 DB, etc etc. The problem is Gaijin cant sell rank 2, 3 or 4 tanks for 70 euros.
Another problem is mid ranks are mostly abandoned in BR changes too.

yeah it would have been cool if you started the match with only 50 points in a ww2 setting and spawning infantry took 10 points and the firefight progressed until reaching enough points to spawn tanks and planes, if your soldier survived long enough you could have the chance to get into cities and position yourself in strategic positions to ambush the late game tanks and vehicles, this would also mean you could exhaust your points to zero unlike regular matches where sometimes you just dont have enough to spawn a tank and must stay there like a spectator potato

Not even Re.2006 which addition is, well, questionable and not possible so far according to @Smin1080p_WT
But stuff like:

  • Caproni AP.1, Ca.133, Ca.310, Ca.314A/B/C, Ca.331A/B, Ca.135, Ca.165;
  • Caproni-Vizolla F.4, F.5, F6M/Z;
  • SAI-Ambrosini 207, 403, SS.4;
  • Imam Ro.37bis, Ro.41, Ro.51, Ro.57bis, Ro.58;
  • Macchi C.205N-1, C.205S, C.200 s.1/bis, C.201, MC.99;
  • Fiat CR.42DB, G.50 s.1/bis Navale, G.50V, RS-14, BR.20bis;
  • Fiat-Cansa FC.12, FC.20ter/quater;
  • Breda Ba.64, Ba.88M, Ba.201;
  • Piaggio P.16, P.32-II/bis, P.50-I/II, P.119,
  • CANT Z.501, Z.506B, Z.508, Z.515, Z.1007 ter, Z.1018,
  • Savoia-Marchetti SM.55, SM.62bis, SM.78, SM.82, SM.84, SM.85, SM.86, SM.89, SM.93;

He didn’t say vehicles wouldn’t be added.

Very disappointing. He should not have said this, and now I’m genuinely worried that the attitude behind his answer is going to influence future game development, altering their mindset permanently, especially considering he’s a game director and his words can create ripples across the entire project.

The fact that the FR-1 and DB-LK are the only WWII additions in the Line of Contact update, and even worse, that both arrived as premiums, feels bleak. It reflects a depressing state for WWII development, as those aircraft aren’t even accessible to regular players, and we don’t even have any new WWII ground vehicles.

This is the most recent example of that mentality, and it raises a haunting question: Will future updates follow this pattern, where WWII additions become mere “tokens” or gimmicks included only to appease the hardcore WWII fans once in a blue moon?

And no, I don’t count WWII ships here. In my eyes, the naval trees are still effectively in beta and unfinished, so they fall outside this discussion.

There are still many WWII gems left to add, and the majority of the playerbase would appreciate them. A large number of examples can be found in the suggestions section of the forum:

All I am asking is for the continued and expanded development of WWII additions. If that happens, the game will remain appreciated, healthy, and sustainable in the long term.

I feel his answer “WW2 isn’t a focus.” was a short-term answer.
Cause in the long term, after the ended timeline, everything is equally “filler” for lack of a better term.

The race for the end, which we’re arriving to next year.
2027? There are no more predictions to make.
You could predict F-16 Block 70 and P-47G… both would be equally valid prediction.

Back when the race started years ago, I knew early cold war and WW2 wouldn’t be equal additions to the content intended to get to the end of the timeline.
And what I said to myself then was “When this is over, I want them to just not focus on anything.”
I want their additions 2027 onward to look random… though maybe with a lean toward balancing vehicle additions.

Priest, Bishop, and Sexton are big ones. Others I can think of are M3A1 and M4A6, and missing UK lease-lease like Sherman V and Chaffee. There is somethings else that I probably can’t think of.

Oh, BeNeLux is a big one, between stuff like the Dutch Ram IIs or their domestic stuff like T.13 or the Dutch Marmon Herringtons (I could just list the BeNeLux’s full ground equipment, and that would be stuff I want)

Most of the other stuff I want, I don’t push for until the nation in question gets a home.

I have no interest in modern vehicles, so if true this absolutely disappoints me.

Gajin has already demonstrated its abandonment of WW2-era vehicles. Japan is a prime example. In three years, only two vehicles were added: the B7A2 Battlepass and the Ki-48 event. Two planes and zero tanks in three years is a disastrous result. The last Japanese WW2-era tank was the Ka-Chi Battlepass, which appeared in 2021. Now, Gajin has confirmed that it no longer wants WW2-era vehicles.

I’m exhausted. For almost two years, I’ve written about 200 suggestions, 95% or more of which are for World War II vehicles. Now I know it was a waste of time, because “War Thunder has too many such vehicles.” I’m giving up writing any more suggestions until the end of the year.

I’ve been telling my friends for a while now that this game is rushing things too much. There are far too many premature aircraft. They should take a break and add a ton of piston-engine planes.

If the developers were communists, I’d understand this rush.

The situation for the Italians, French, Chinese, and Swedes is very similar. Without subtrees, almost no vehicles from the first half of the 20th century would be added. Even the subtrees are empty. Where is the promised line of Hungarian aircraft from World War II? Where are the unique Finnish aircraft, the defenders of Finland from the Winter and Continuation Wars? Where are the planes defending the Dutch East Indies? Unfortunately, they are nowhere to be seen.

I agree with the sentiment somewhat, but I don’t think the emphasis on modern vehicles is entirely just because they are trying to expand into a new era as the next logical step. It’s a marketing thing too.

Most people who don’t have any special interesting in history or vehicles are only going to be familiar with modern service vehicles, as those are subject to the most publicity and hype (Ie: a good chunk of Americans know of the Abrams or F-35). So when they see a military vehicle game, they want to get the recognizable modern MBT or jet. So by focusing on modern vehicles, Gajin broadens their appeal.

I think they could get away with this for a few years frankly, though they would likely have to shift from adding new vehicles to expanding on top tier gameplay. The infantry mode they are testing is a perfect example of how such additions or changes could keep the focus on the flashy modern equipment zoomers like, even after the well of iconic modern vehicles dries up.

I personally prefer WW2 vehicles more, so this is an especially tough pill for me to swallow. I’d like for all generations of vehicles to get similar levels of attention, but it doesn’t work with how the game’s progression system works.
This is why I think there needs to be some sort of soft division between eras that allows people to start grinding closer to what they find most appealing. You would only need two or three divisions and some adjustments to RP costs. It wouldn’t necessarily even require a rework of the BR system.
With a slightly shorter grind, there is more incentive for Gajin to decompress and add to the each era to increase the length of the grind.
New players would still buy their way to the highest rank vehicles regardless of how short the grind is, so it wouldn’t necessarily even hurt profit. If anything, by allowing people to totally to skip low ranks, there’s more reason for them to buy low rank premiums when they inviably decide to double back and see what they might have missed out on. When people stop seeing low ranks as hurdles, Gajin doesn’t need to either, and we could get a healthier form of monetization that reflect this. It justifies leveling out premium vehicle prices a bit so that Gajin profits more from low rank premiums while we don’t end up needing to pay $99 for some pixels arranged in the shape of a modern jet.

Look , i have MANY disagreements with how GJ handles things,
but i don’t think they will stop adding things for WW2, just in a slower rate.
I believe too that they most likely give emphasis to modern vehicles because of marketing.

It’s one hell of disappointment from BVV, especially for new players and minor nations like Japan with huge gap in the low tier. there is a LOT of WW2 low tier stuff for Japan to fill the TT and yet it’s still damn empty.

As a person who mainly plays naval these days, it pains me to agree with you on that.

Gaijin has not only repeatedly pushed through some of the worst gameplay changes for naval recently, but also ruined balance at top tier with a certain 8.7 BB, and continues in their wildly inconsistent implementations of details throughout the trees.

As a prewar enthusiast, I do sometimes fear that missile ships may start to take over the additions lists. I imagine the current WW2 ships will only be bolstered by BP or Event vehicles as they have ‘equivalents’ in the main tree, with the main additions being modern missile ships. This is not to say the naval shouldn’t evolve past the current tech level, it should, but not at the cost of leaving the WW2 and pre-WW2 stuff completely behind in terms of new additions.

Although my view pretty much unfounded for naval, I mean we’ve barely seen any missile ship additions, hell most trees are just missing theirs. But I’ve seen a few people on this forum and elsewhere say that they’re only going to play naval for those modern vessels, and well Gaijin is Gaijin and follows the money.
