WW1 era Brainstorming Ideas Thread

Armament shouldn’t be a problem though, weaker guns for weaker aircraft will balance itself out.

This would be quite cool

Adding WWI is simple in my opinion, just create 0.3 and 0.7 BR and put them there, some would be 1.0 and 1.3. BR 0.0 would be reserve.

No offense, but the key word in your whole post is “in my opinion”.

No offense #2, but you might consider to base your opinion on facts, not believes.

  1. The average speed difference between an WW I aircraft and a current 1.0 fighter is around 100% - meaning that any current reserve tier fighter is twice as fast. Same as trying to fight a F-86 in an A6M2. Pointless.

  2. The Air RB scoreboard leader of all time with 5.65 kills per battle on average (and a K/D > 15:1) flew the USSR bomber BB-1 at a BR at 1.3. It is still a preferred seal clubber plane. You never get in gun range with any WW 1 fighter against any decent flown reserve tier fighter - whilst you got BnZd the whole time.

  3. If your idea should work you need negative BRs for WW 1 aircraft (with the gap large enough to avoid fights vs interwar fighters and current 1.0 fighters) - but you still have the issue with map sizes (=too large for WW1 speeds, too small for anything after WW 1).

IMO the only way you’re getting WW1 to function in War Thunder is a totally separate tech tree, battles, and maps. Then you could create their own BR rankings, and make it work for all WW1 things, be they planes, tanks, or naval (tanks would be VERY slow though, so would need either really tiny maps or just to skip it altogether). You could have it run up to a certain dateset too, say 1935, then toss anything that is missing for 1935-40 into 0.0-2.0 where it’s needed in the current War Thunder trees.

Thing is, it would still require making, basically, a whole new game mode, and I don’t think it’s gonna make as much money as high tier. Then again, they’re running out of high tier planes/tanks to put in the game, while low tier has long been ignored despite massive holes and major missing aircraft. As a prop-enjoyer, I personally WOULD like them to go back to pre-early WW2 stuff, and WW1/interwar would be great, but that’s still a niche opinion.

I think they should either come in an update with some post war vehicles that could act as a buffer against the current reserve/1.0 BR aircraft. Basically bump everything else up 1/2 BRs and slot in the WW1/early interwar aircraft in the gap becoming the new reserve tier.

Or add them as a separate TT like how Bluewater and Coastal Naval are split. But if it does happen like this then hopefully they don’t have stupidly high RP requirements, I don’t want to grind 300k RP + for the end of the WW1 tree like coastal.

I also hope that the trees wouldn’t mesh at all, and that WWI was completely separate with their own BRs.

Honestly I hope they do let them mesh together, I want to see one of those crackheads that take low tier aircraft to top tier and do well in a Sopwith Camel or Fokker Dr.1

world war one fighters would play like KI43 slow and highly manuverable sure everything else is 40 mph faster than your or more which is big if they boom and zoom you use your obscene turn time to dodge and use that to get guns on target eventually they will make a mistake WW1 planes are for patient players mostly in uptiers itll be fine as long as you have a mediocre attention span and know anything about defensive flying

Dude, no offense - but not eben the slowest 1.0 reserve fighter He 51 (~300 kmph) is even close to your 64 kmph claim compared to the fastest WW 1 fighter S.E.5 with 222 kmph. Except the few SPADs the average top speed of an average WW1 fighter is around 160-180 kmph.

The average reserve fighter is twice as fast…you can’t seriously claim anything regarding defensive flying when your average opponent has a way better climb and much higher straight line and dive speed…

yeah but you are forgetting something the average player cant aim for there life at that br speed is not always everything majority of ww1 planes should pull enough Lead to get guns on target speed is not everything for example F4 phantoms in nam could go mach 2.2 but got there asses kicked by mig 15s and mig 17s cause of turnrate or the f4u corsairs vs mig 15s which the corsairs used far superior turn rate to there advantage

i love it i was putting planes in for premium vehicles as a incentive to add them as gaijin could make money
