Mate I understand that the effect is exaggerated for modern systems. However for older systems it’s probably not powerful enough.
The system is completely wrong in game but it should exist in some form since this game prides itself on “realism” (or so I have been led to believe).
No, multipathing should not exist as a crutch to avoid all and every radar guided weapon.
The modeling of the system should be improved overall and it should be tuned per radar/missile combo to make it more realistic in my opinion.

You paid 40 bucks for that I assume? And you of course read through it? In full?
Maybe summarize it for us, eh? Or are you just waving academic litterature around as an appeal to authority because you can’t make your own points? Not to mention that War Thunder ARB is a simulacra of A2A combat, it doesn’t seek to replicate reality in full, so your paper is void and null anyway!

I agree with that opinion vehemently.

None of these games have missile simulations on par with War Thunder. You can shit on Gaijin all you want but this game is by far the single best implementation of missile and radar systems I’ve seen so far. And lol, Nuclear Option? Please.

I know that BVR is already one of the stronger tactics in this game. I play mainly BVR and have been able to get my K/S over 2.0. My point is that it is wrong to be at high altitude and not be able to get a handle on a low altitude enemy. It doesn’t matter if it affects my win rate. The important thing is that you won’t lose unreasonably.
And pointing out spelling mistakes forever is childish and fun, so you only have to do it once.
You are free to make suggestions/reports for any radars that you have concrete proof of not being effected by multipathing. I’m not sure if it would count as a suggestion or a bug report though so i would ask a Technical Moderator about it to know how to report/suggest such a change. You can find all the teams and the areas they handle listed here: (Who is who and Reporting Procedure). If you don’t get an answer within a few days you can add more moderators from the list to the original message instead of sending a new message (that way you preserve the date of the message and it doesn’t look like a new request), adding one or two moderators to the message every 2-3 days or so until you get an answer.
Please do not to add the seniors until you have tried all other regular moderators, the Seniors likely won’t answer unless they are added and pinged by the regular moderators but if you’ve tried them all then you can add the seniors.
The ARH missiles are to my knowledge still effected by multipathing though as they don’t have multiple antennas nor phased array antennas.
Oh it very much is still used IRL. IRL nothing is perfect and every strategy that will increase chances of survival is viable. It’s almost never “immune” but rather “resistant” .

Again, I think your issue is a symptom of ridiculous team sizes that make the issue much worse. Yeah, I agree that hugging the ground is dumb, however I strongly believe if lobbies were smaller and people had room to breathe, they would feel freer to try out BVR and stop mowing the lawn.
The thing you’re also missing is that practically every single player you encounter is likely a casual who only plays like 2-3 matches per day and is largely clueless about the game’s mechanic but understands somewhat that ground=safe, the people on this forum are a drop, we don’t matter really.
Basically what I’m trying to say is that multipathing isn’t the issue, the issue is Gaijin failing to create proper tutorials and training for higher tiers and substituting good training with a pair of crutches for casual players.
Tbf, there exist a hub of sciences and collections of scholars that provide access!
And failing that, e-mailing the first author usually works.
(I’m not taking sides, just that the paywall isnt that scary)

Indeed, I admit that it was hyperbole to say that multipath is completely non-existent. My point was that it is unreasonable and inappropriate to fly at high altitude and be outmaneuvered by a low altitude enemy.
And to say that multipath exists is certainly an exaggeration. Also, is the fact that the radar missile seeker does not do its job when flying at low altitudes using multipath due to the pursuit of realism?
I agree with that opinion vehemently.
all trees in the world according to gaijin

Radar missiles already suffer much less from multipathing if they are launched from above and come at their target at a pretty big angle.
That said, being higher up definitely gives you some advantages.
i would enjoy staying higher much more if contrails were removed/changed, and staying below contrail height just makes it super easy to be hmd sniped by a fox 3 from someone hugging the deck
I absolutely would not call war thunder the best radar/missile simulation especially with how many issues missiles of all types have in this game
Think what you want to think i guess but imo even falcon BMS does it better and thats from 30 years ago

Why?
This is how it works IRL as well, flying low reduces the chance of getting detected and increases your chances of survival but reduce the effectiveness of your missiles. Flying high increases the risk of getting detected but increase the effectiveness of your missiles. It’s a tradeoff.
No? Multipath is a real phenomenon that exists. Modern radars do however have systems and algorithms in place that reduce the effect by a lot, but it’s still there and needs to be worked around.
I don’t understand this question.
And to repeat:
If you want to suggest/report a change, please do so following the instructions above. Note that you have to provide proof and sources for your claims.
Contrails were phased out in favor of chemtrails.
You can still find people hugging the ground with your radar and your altitude advantage is helping you out.
The height trails start to appear might be changed as well.
yeah the height advantage is helpful but at the same time with the trail its just a massive beacon revealing your location to people who arent looking in your direction with their radar, would also like to see a change where the trails disappear when you turn off after burner so you trade out right speed for the element for surprise
Definitely not realistic from what I can tell but could be a decent thing to add for gameplay purposes.
yeah its not the most realistic thing but the way the trail system is implemented now is also not to realistic tbf, it just appears when you go from 5499 meters to 5500 its a bit more complex and alot of other factors involved when the trails start to be made
